Proverbs 4:9-20 in American Standard Version (1901)

9 She will give to thy head a chaplet of grace; A crown of beauty will she deliver to thee.
10 Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; And the years of thy life shall be many.
11 I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in paths of uprightness.
12 When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; And if thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.
13 Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: Keep her; for she is thy life.
14 Enter not into the path of the wicked, And walk not in the way of evil men.
15 Avoid it, pass not by it; Turn from it, and pass on.
16 For they sleep not, except they do evil; And their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall.
17 For they eat the bread of wickedness, And drink the wine of violence.
18 But the path of the righteous is as the dawning light, That shineth more and more unto the perfect day.
19 The way of the wicked is as darkness: They know not at what they stumble.
20 My son, attend to my words; Incline thine ear unto my sayings.

Proverbs 4:9-20 in Translation for Translators

9 If you become wise, that will for you be like a beautiful wreath that is put {someone puts} on your head; it will be like a king's glorious crown.” That is what my father told me.
10 So now I say, “My son, heed what I say. If you do that, you will live a good long life.
11 I am teaching you the way to live wisely; I am showing you ow to act justly toward others.
12 If you live wisely, when you decide to do something, you will succeed LIT.
13 Hold fast to the things I have taught you to do, and do not let them go. Guard them, because they will be the source of a good life.
14 Do not do the things that wicked people do; do not behave like they do; do not even walk on the roads that evil people walk on MET.
15 Stay away from those roads; turn aside and walk on other roads;
16 because evil people cannot sleep if they have not done some evil deed on that day. They cannot rest if they have not harmed someone.
17 What they eat and what they drink are things that they have obtained by acting wickedly and violently.”
18 The behavior of good/righteous people is like the light that begins to shine at dawn and then continues to shine brighter until the brightest time of day.
19 But the behavior of wicked people is like deep/thick darkness. Because it is very dark, they cannot see the things that cause them to stumble.
20 My son, pay attention to what I am saying. Listen to my words carefully.

9 She will put a crown of grace on your head, giving you a head-dress of glory.
10 Give ear, O my son, and let your heart be open to my sayings; and long life will be yours.
11 I have given you teaching in the way of wisdom, guiding your steps in the straight way.
12 When you go, your way will not be narrow, and in running you will not have a fall.
13 Take learning in your hands, do not let her go: keep her, for she is your life.
14 Do not go in the road of sinners, or be walking in the way of evil men.
15 Keep far from it, do not go near; be turned from it, and go on your way.
16 For they take no rest till they have done evil; their sleep is taken away if they have not been the cause of someone's fall.
17 The bread of evil-doing is their food, the wine of violent acts their drink.
18 But the way of the upright is like the light of early morning, getting brighter and brighter till the full day.
19 The way of sinners is dark; they see not the cause of their fall.
20 My son, give attention to my words; let your ear be turned to my sayings.

14 Be not delighted in the paths of the wicked, neither let the way of evil men please thee.
15 Flee from it, pass not by it: go aside, and forsake it.
16 For they sleep not except they have done evil: and their sleep is taken away unless they have made some to fall.
17 They eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of iniquity.
18 But the path of the just, as a shining light, goeth forwards and increaseth even to perfect day.

Proverbs 4:9-20 in Free Bible Version

9 She will place on your head a wreath of grace; she will present to you a crown of glory.”
10 Listen, my son, if you accept what I tell you, then you will live a long life.
11 I have explained to you the way of wisdom; I have guided you along the right paths.
12 Nothing will block your way when you walk, you won't stumble when you run.
13 Hold on to these instructions—don't let them go. Protect them, for they are life's foundation.
14 Don't go the way of the wicked or follow the example of those who do evil.
15 Avoid that way completely. Don't go there! Turn away, and walk on.
16 Evil people won't rest until they've done something wrong; they can't sleep unless they've tripped someone up.
17 For they eat the bread of wickedness and drink the wine of violence.
18 The way of life of the good is like the light of the sunrise, glowing brighter and brighter until the full light of day shines out.
19 But the way of life of the wicked is like complete darkness; they don't even know what they're tripping over.
20 My son, pay attention to what I tell you; listen to the words I'm saying.

Proverbs 4 in World English Bible

Proverbs 4:9-20 in World English Bible British Edition

9 She will give to your head a garland of grace. She will deliver a crown of splendour to you.”
10 Listen, my son, and receive my sayings. The years of your life will be many.
11 I have taught you in the way of wisdom. I have led you in straight paths.
12 When you go, your steps will not be hampered. When you run, you will not stumble.
13 Take firm hold of instruction. Don’t let her go. Keep her, for she is your life.
14 Don’t enter into the path of the wicked. Don’t walk in the way of evil men.
15 Avoid it, and don’t pass by it. Turn from it, and pass on.
16 For they don’t sleep unless they do evil. Their sleep is taken away, unless they make someone fall.
17 For they eat the bread of wickedness and drink the wine of violence.
18 But the path of the righteous is like the dawning light that shines more and more until the perfect day.
19 The way of the wicked is like darkness. They don’t know what they stumble over.
20 My son, attend to my words. Turn your ear to my sayings.

Proverbs 4:9-20 in Wycliffe's Bible with Modern Spelling

9 It shall give increasings of graces to thine head; and a noble crown shall defend thee.
10 My son, hear thou, and take my words; that the years of life be multiplied to thee.
11 I shall show to thee the way of wisdom; and I shall lead thee by the paths of equity.
12 Into which when thou hast entered, thy goings shall not be made strait; and thou shalt run, and shalt not have hurting.
13 Hold thou teaching, and forsake thou it not; keep thou it, for it is thy life.
14 Delight thou not in the paths of wicked men; and the way of evil men please not thee.
15 Flee thou from it, and pass thou not thereby; bow thou away, and forsake it.
16 For they sleep not, no but they have done evil; and sleep is ravished from them, no but they have deceived simple men.
17 They eat the bread of unpiety, and drink the wine of wickedness.
18 But the path of just or rightwise men goeth forth as light shining, and increaseth till to a perfect day.
19 The way of wicked men is dark; they know not where they shall fall.
20 My son, hearken thou to my words; and bow down thine ears to my speeches.
