Help us?

Proverbs 30:4-31 in American Standard Version (1901)

4 Who hath ascended up into heaven, and descended? Who hath gathered the wind in his fists? Who hath bound the waters in his garment? Who hath established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and what is his son’s name, if thou knowest?
5 Every word of God is tried: He is a shield unto them that take refuge in him.
6 Add thou not unto his words, Lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.
7 Two things have I asked of thee; Deny me them not before I die:
8 Remove far from me falsehood and lies; Give me neither poverty nor riches; Feed me with the food that is needful for me:
9 Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is Jehovah? Or lest I be poor, and steal, And use profanely the name of my God.
10 Slander not a servant unto his master, Lest he curse thee, and thou be held guilty.
11 There is a generation that curse their father, And bless not their mother.
12 There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, And yet are not washed from their filthiness.
13 There is a generation, oh how lofty are their eyes! And their eyelids are lifted up.
14 There is a generation whose teeth are as swords, and their jaw teeth as knives, To devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men.
15 The horseleach hath two daughters, crying, Give, give. There are three things that are never satisfied, Yea, four that say not, Enough:
16 Sheol; and the barren womb; The earth that is not satisfied with water; And the fire that saith not, Enough.
17 The eye that mocketh at his father, And despiseth to obey his mother, The ravens of the valley shall pick it out, And the young eagles shall eat it.
18 There are three things which are too wonderful for me, Yea, four which I know not:
19 The way of an eagle in the air; The way of a serpent upon a rock; The way of a ship in the midst of the sea; And the way of a man with a maiden.
20 So is the way of an adulterous woman; She eateth, and wipeth her mouth, And saith, I have done no wickedness.
21 For three things the earth doth tremble, And for four, which it cannot bear:
22 For a servant when he is king; And a fool when he is filled with food;
23 For an odious woman when she is married; And a handmaid that is heir to her mistress.
24 There are four things which are little upon the earth, But they are exceeding wise:
25 The ants are a people not strong, Yet they provide their food in the summer;
26 The conies are but a feeble folk, Yet make they their houses in the rocks;
27 The locusts have no king, Yet go they forth all of them by bands;
28 The lizard taketh hold with her hands, Yet is she in kings’ palaces.
29 There are three things which are stately in their march, Yea, four which are stately in going:
30 The lion, which is mightiest among beasts, And turneth not away for any;
31 The greyhound; the he-goat also; And the king against whom there is no rising up.

9 Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.
10 Accuse not a servant unto his master, lest he curse thee, and thou be found guilty.

Proverbs 30:4-31 in LXX2012: Septuagint in American English 2012

4 Who has gone up to heaven, and come down? who has gathered the winds in his bosom? who has wrapped up the waters in a garment? who has dominion of all the ends of the earth? what is his name? or what is the name of his children?
5 For all the words of God are tried in the fire, and he defends those that reverence him.
6 Add not to his words, lest he reprove you, and you be made a liar.
7 Two things I ask of you; take not favor from me before I die.
8 Remove far from me vanity and falsehood: and give me not wealth or poverty; but appoint me what is needful and sufficient:
9 lest I be filled and become false, and say, Who sees me? or be poor and steal, and swear vainly by the name of God.
10 Deliver not a servant into the hands of his master, lest he curse you, and you be utterly destroyed.
11 A wicked generation curse their father, and do not bless their mother.
12 A wicked generation judge themselves to be just, but do not cleanse their way.
13 A wicked generation have lofty eyes, and exalt themselves with their eyelids.
14 A wicked generation have swords for teeth and jaw teeth as knives, so as to destroy and devour the lowly from the earth, and the poor of them from among men.
15 The horse-leech had three dearly beloved daughters: and these three did not satisfy her; and the fourth was not contented so as to say, Enough.
16 The grave, and the love of a woman, and the earth not filled with water; water also and fire will not say, It is enough.
17 The eye that laughs to scorn a father, and dishonors the old age of a mother, let the ravens of the valleys pick it out, and let the young eagles devour it.
18 Moreover there are three things impossible for me to comprehend, and the fourth I know not:
19 the track of a flying eagle; and the ways of a serpent on a rock; and the paths of a ship passing through the sea; and the ways of a man in youth.
20 Such is the way of an adulterous woman, who having washed herself from what she has done, says she has done nothing amiss.
21 By three thing the earth is troubled, and the fourth it can’t bear:
22 if a servant reign; or a fool be filled with food;
23 or if a maidservant should cast out her own mistress; and if a hateful woman should marry a good man.
24 And there are four very little things upon the earth, but these are wiser than the wise:
25 the ants which are weak, and yet prepare their food in summer;
26 the rabbits also are a feeble race, who make their houses in the rocks.
27 The locusts have no king, and yet march orderly at one command.
28 And the eft, which supports itself by its hands, and is easily taken, dwells in the fortresses of kings.
29 And there are three things which go well, and a fourth which passes along finely.
30 A lion's whelp, stronger than all other beasts, which turns not away, nor fears any beast;
31 and a cock walking in boldly among the hens, and the goat leading the herd; and a king publicly speaking before a nation.

Proverbs 30:4-31 in Translation for Translators

4 But let me say this: No one RHQ has ascended to heaven to find out what God is like and returned to tell us. No one RHQ has gathered/held the wind in his hand. No one RHQ has wrapped the water in the ocean in a piece of cloth, and no one RHQ has established the boundaries of the earth. If you know who has done those things, tell me RHQ his name, and the names of his children SAR! But you do not know who has done those things, so you cannot speak with authority about what God is like.
5 Everything that God has said is true; he is like a shield MET for all those who request him to protect them.
6 Do not add to (OR, change) what God has said; if you do that, he will rebuke you and show that you are lying.
7 God, I ask you to do two things for me; please do them before I die:
8 Help me never to lie or deceive people and do not cause me to become poor or to become rich. Just give me the food that I need;
9 because if I become rich, I might say that I do not RHQ know you and that I do not need you; and if I become poor, I might dishonor you by stealing things.
10 Do not ◄slander/say bad things about► a worker to his boss; if you do that, the worker will curse you, and cause you to have trouble.
11 I will list four kinds of evil things that people do: Some people curse their fathers and do not ask God to bless their mothers.
12 Some people think that they are perfect, but really they have never been cleansed from their guilt for committing disgusting sins.
13 Some people are very proud; they think that they are very good and they despise others.
14 Some people act very cruelly toward others; it is as though MET they have teeth that are like sharp knives; they severely oppress poor people and try to cause them to disappear from the land.
15 Leeches are always wanting more blood to suck; similarly, greedy people are always saying “Give me some!” or “Give me more!” MET There are four things that are never ◄satisfied/content with what they have►; they always want more LIT:
16 The place where the dead people are; women who do not have any children; ground that needs water/rain; and a fire that always needs more wood.
17 Those who SYN make fun of their fathers or refuse to obey their mothers (OR, despise their aged mothers) should die and have their eyes pecked out by crows, and the rest of their corpses should be fed to the vultures.
18 There are four things that are wonderful to me, but I do not understand any of them:
19 How eagles fly in the sky, how snakes are able to move/crawl across a big rock, how ships sail on the seas, and how a man falls in love with a woman.
20 This is what a woman who ◄is not faithful to/does not have sex only with► her husband does: She commits adultery EUP, and then bathes and says, “I have not done anything that is wrong!”
21 There are four things that no one in the world can tolerate:
22 What a slave does who becomes a king, a foolish person eating too much food,
23 what a woman who is hated does when she gets married, and what a female servant does when she becomes the boss instead of her mistress.
24 There are four animals on the earth that are small, but they are very wise:
25 Ants are not strong, but they store up food during the summer in order to have it during the winter.
26 Rock badgers also are not strong, but they make their homes among the rocks where they will be safe.
27 Locusts do not have a king, but they march like the soldiers in an army.
28 Lizards/Geckos are very small and you can hold them in your hand, but they are cleverly able to get inside kings' palaces.
29 There are four animals that strut around and look very impressive while they walk DOU:
30 Lions, which are stronger than all other animals and are not afraid of any of them;
31 male goats, strutting roosters, and kings who ◄parade/walk proudly back and forth► in front of the people whom they rule.

15 “The leech has two daughters: ‘Give, give.’ “There are three things that are never satisfied; four that don’t say, ‘Enough!’:
16 Sheol, the barren womb, the earth that is not satisfied with water, and the fire that doesn’t say, ‘Enough!’
17 “The eye that mocks at his father, and scorns obedience to his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, the young eagles shall eat it.
18 “There are three things which are too amazing for me, four which I don’t understand:
19 The way of an eagle in the air, the way of a serpent on a rock, the way of a ship in the middle of the sea, and the way of a man with a maiden.
20 “So is the way of an adulterous woman: She eats and wipes her mouth, and says, ‘I have done nothing wrong.’
21 “For three things the earth trembles, and under four, it can’t bear up:
22 For a servant when he is king, a fool when he is filled with food,
23 for an unloved woman when she is married, and a servant who is heir to her mistress.
24 “There are four things which are little on the earth, but they are exceedingly wise:
25 The ants are not a strong people, yet they provide their food in the summer.
26 The hyraxes are but a feeble folk, yet make they their houses in the rocks.
27 The locusts have no king, yet they advance in ranks.
28 You can catch a lizard with your hands, yet it is in kings’ palaces.
29 “There are three things which are stately in their march, four which are stately in going:
30 The lion, which is mightiest amongst animals, and doesn’t turn away for any;
31 the greyhound; the male goat; and the king against whom there is no rising up.

Proverbs 30:4-31 in Bible in Basic English

4 Who has gone up to heaven and come down? who has taken the winds in his hands, prisoning the waters in his robe? by whom have all the ends of the earth been fixed? what is his name, and what is his son's name, if you are able to say?
5 Every word of God is tested: he is a breastplate to those who put their faith in him.
6 Make no addition to his words, or he will make clear your error, and you will be seen to be false.
7 I have made request to you for two things; do not keep them from me before my death:
8 Put far from me all false and foolish things: do not give me great wealth or let me be in need, but give me only enough food:
9 For fear that if I am full, I may be false to you and say, Who is the Lord? or if I am poor, I may become a thief, using the name of my God wrongly.
10 Do not say evil of a servant to his master, or he will put a curse on you, and you will get into trouble.
11 There is a generation who put a curse on their father, and do not give a blessing to their mother.
12 There is a generation who seem to themselves to be free from sin, but are not washed from their unclean ways.
13 There is a generation, O how full of pride are their eyes! O how their brows are lifted up!
14 There is a generation whose teeth are like swords, their strong teeth like knives, for the destruction of the poor from the earth, and of those who are in need from among men.
15 The night-spirit has two daughters, Give, give. There are three things which are never full, even four which never say, Enough:
16 The underworld, and the woman without a child; the earth which never has enough water, and the fire which never says, Enough.
17 The eye which makes sport of a father, and sees no value in a mother when she is old will be rooted out by the ravens of the valley, and be food for the young eagles.
18 There are three things, the wonder of which overcomes me, even four things outside my knowledge:
19 The way of an eagle in the air; the way of a snake on a rock; the way of a ship in the heart of the sea; and the way of a man with a girl.
20 This is the way of a false wife; she takes food, and, cleaning her mouth, says, I have done no wrong.
21 For three things the earth is moved, and there are four which it will not put up with:
22 A servant when he becomes a king; a man without sense when his wealth is increased;
23 A hated woman when she is married; and a servant-girl who takes the place of her master's wife.
24 There are four things which are little on the earth, but they are very wise:
25 The ants are a people not strong, but they put by a store of food in the summer;
26 The conies are only a feeble people, but they make their houses in the rocks;
27 The locusts have no king, but they all go out in bands;
28 You may take the lizard in your hands, but it is in kings' houses.
29 There are three things whose steps are good to see, even four whose goings are fair:
30 The lion, which is strongest among beasts, not turning from his way for any;
31 The war-horse, and the he-goat, and the king when his army is with him.

Proverbs 30:4-31 in Darby Translation

4 Who hath ascended up into the heavens, and descended? Who hath gathered the wind in his fists? Who hath bound the waters in a mantle? Who hath established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and what is his son's name, if thou knowest?
5 Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.
6 Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.
7 Two things do I ask of thee; deny me them not before I die:
8 Remove far from me vanity and lies; give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the bread of my daily need:
9 lest I be full and deny thee, and say, Who is Jehovah? or lest I be poor and steal, and outrage the name of my God.
10 Speak not too much about a servant to his master, lest he curse thee, and thou be held guilty.
11 There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother;
12 there is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, yet are not washed from their filthiness;
13 there is a generation, — how lofty are their eyes, how their eyelids are lifted up!
14 — a generation whose teeth are swords, and their jaw-teeth knives, to devour the afflicted from off the earth, and the needy from among men.
15 The leech hath two daughters: Give, give. There are three things never satisfied; four which say not, It is enough:
16 — Sheol, and the barren womb; the earth which is not filled with water, and the fire which saith not, It is enough.
17 The eye that mocketh at a father, and despiseth to obey a mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it.
18 There are three things too wonderful for me, and four that I know not:
19 The way of an eagle in the heavens, the way of a serpent upon a rock, the way of a ship in the midst of the sea, and the way of a man with a maid.
20 Such is the way of an adulterous woman: she eateth, and wipeth her mouth, and saith, I have done no wickedness.
21 Under three things the earth is disquieted, and under four it cannot bear up:
22 Under a servant when he reigneth, and a churl when he is filled with meat;
23 under an odious woman when she is married, and a handmaid when she is heir to her mistress.
24 There are four things little upon the earth, and they are exceeding wise:
25 The ants, a people not strong, yet they provide their food in the summer;
26 the rock-badgers are but a feeble folk, yet they make their house in the cliff;
27 the locusts have no king, yet they go forth all of them by bands;
28 thou takest hold of the lizard with the hands, yet is she in kings' palaces.
29 There are three things which have a stately step, and four are comely in going:
30 The lion, mighty among beasts, which turneth not away for any;
31 a horse girt in the loins; or the he-goat; and a king, against whom none can rise up.

Proverbs 30:4-31 in Douay-Rheims 1899

4 Who hath ascended up into heaven, and descended? who hath held the wind in his hands? who hath bound up the waters together as in a garment? who hath raised up all the borders of the earth? what is his name, and what is the name of his son, if thou knowest?
5 Every word of God is fire tried: he is a buckler to them that hope in him.
6 Add not any thing to his words, lest thou be reproved, and found a liar:
7 Two things I have asked of thee, deny them not to me before I die.
8 Remove far from me vanity, and lying words. Give me neither beggary, nor riches: give me only the necessaries of life:
9 Lest perhaps being filled, I should be tempted to deny, and say: Who is the Lord? or being compelled by poverty, I should steal, and forswear the name of my God.
10 Accuse not a servant to his master, lest he curse thee, and thou fall.
11 There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother.
12 A generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet are not washed from their filthiness.
13 A generation, whose eyes are lofty, and their eyelids lifted up on high.
14 A generation, that for teeth hath swords, and grindeth with their jaw teeth, to devour the needy from off the earth, and the poor from among men.
15 The horseleech hath two daughters that say: Bring, bring. There are three things that never are satisfied, and the fourth never saith: It is enough.
16 Hell, and the mouth of the womb, and the earth which is not satisfied with water: and the fire never saith: It is enough.
17 The eye that mocketh at his father, and that despiseth the labour of his mother in bearing him, let the ravens of the brooks pick it out, and the young eagles eat it.
18 Three things are hard to me, and the fourth I am utterly ignorant of.
19 The way of an eagle in the air, the way of a serpent upon a rock, the way of a ship in the midst of the sea, and the way of a man in youth.
20 Such is also the way of an adulterous woman, who eateth, and wipeth her mouth, and saith: I have done no evil.
21 By three things the earth is disturbed, and the fourth it cannot bear:
22 By a slave when he reigneth: by a fool when he is filled with meat:
23 By an odious woman when she is married: and by a bondwoman when she is heir to her mistress.
24 There are four very little things of the earth, and they are wiser than the wise:
25 The ants, a feeble people, which provide themselves food in the harvest:
26 The rabbit, a weak people, which maketh its bed in the rock:
27 The locust hath no king, yet they all go out by their bands.
28 The stellio supporteth itself on hands, and dwelleth in kings’ houses.
29 There are three things, which go well, and the fourth that walketh happily:
30 A lion, the strongest of beasts, who hath no fear of any thing he meeteth:
31 A cock girded about the loins: and a ram: and a king, whom none can resist.

Proverbs 30:4-31 in Free Bible Version

4 Who has gone up to heaven, and come down? Who holds the winds in the palm of his hands? Who has wrapped up the waters in his cloak? Who has set the earth's boundaries? What is his name, and what is his son's name? Are you sure you don't know?
5 Every word God says has been proved true. He defends everyone who comes to him for protection.
6 Don't add anything to his words, or he will criticize you and you'll be shown to be a liar.
7 God, I want to request two things from you. Please don't refuse to let me have them before I come to die.
8 Keep me from being false, help me not to tell lies. Don't make me poor or rich; just provide me with the food I need.
9 Otherwise if I have plenty of money, I may give up on you, saying, “Who is the Lord?” while if I'm poor I may steal and bring the name of my God into disrepute.
10 Don't slander a servant to his master, or he will curse you and you'll suffer for it.
11 There are some who curse their fathers and do not bless their mothers.
12 There are some who see themselves as pure but they're still filthy—they have not been washed.
13 There are some who think themselves so high and mighty, and who look down on others.
14 There are some who have teeth like swords, incisors like knives, ready to devour the poor from the earth, the needy from society.
15 The leech has two daughters who cry out, “Give me! Give me!” There are three things that are never satisfied, four that never say, “Enough!”:
16 The grave, the womb that doesn't become pregnant, the earth thirsty for water, and the fire that never says, “Enough!”
17 People who ridicule their fathers and despise obedience to the mother will have their eyes pecked out by wild ravens and eaten by young vultures.
18 These three things are amazingly hard for me, four things I just can't understand:
19 The way an eagle soars in the sky, the way a snake slides over a rock, the way a ship sails across the sea, the way a man and a woman fall in love.
20 This is the way of a woman who commits adultery: she eats, she wipes her mouth, and then says, “I haven't done anything wrong!”
21 Three things make the earth tremble, there are four things it can't support:
22 a slave becoming a king, a stupid person eating like a pig,
23 an unbearable woman getting married, and a maidservant taking her mistress's place.
24 There are four things on earth that are small, but very wise:
25 Ants—they're not strong, but they work hard all summer storing up food.
26 Hyraxes—they don't have much power, but they make their homes in the rock.
27 Locusts—they don't have a king, but they all march in line abreast.
28 Lizards—you can catch them in your hands, but they live in the king's palace.
29 There are three things that are glorious to watch as they walk, four that look dignified as they move:
30 The lion, supreme among wild animals, who isn't frightened of anything.
31 The strutting starling, the male goat, and a king with his army.

11 There is a generation that curseth their father, and doeth not blesse their mother.

16 The graue, and the barren wombe, the earth that cannot be satisfied with water, and the fire that sayeth not, It is ynough.
17 The eye that mocketh his father and despiseth the instruction of his mother, let ye rauens of the valley picke it out, and the yong eagles eate it.
18 There be three thinges hid from me: yea, foure that I knowe not,
19 The way of an eagle in the aire, the way of a serpent vpon a stone, ye way of a ship in ye middes of the sea, and the way of a man with a maide.
20 Such is ye way also of an adulterous woman: she eateth and wipeth her mouth, and sayth, I haue not committed iniquitie.
21 For three things the earth is moued: yea, for foure it cannot susteine it selfe:
22 For a seruant when he reigneth, and a foole when he is filled with meate,
23 For the hatefull woman, when she is married, and for a handmaid that is heire to her mistres.
24 These be foure small things in the earth, yet they are wise and full of wisedome:
25 The pismires a people not strong, yet prepare they their meate in sommer:
26 The conies a people not mightie, yet make their houses in the rocke:
27 The grashopper hath no King, yet goe they forth all by bandes:
28 The spider taketh holde with her handes, and is in Kings palaces.
29 There be three thinges that order well their going: yea, foure are comely in going,
30 A lyon which is strong among beastes, and turneth not at the sight of any:
31 A lusty grayhound, and a goate, and a King against whom there is no rising vp.

Proverbs 30:4-31 in Isaac Leeser Tanakh

4 Who was it that ascended into heaven, and came down again? who gathered the wind in his fists? who bound the waters in a garment? who set up all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son's name, if thou knowest it?”
5 Every saying of God is purified: he is a shield unto those that put their trust in him.
6 Do not add aught unto his words: lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.
7 Two things do I request of thee: deny them not to me before I die.
8 Vanity and lying words do thou remove far from me: neither poverty nor riches give thou unto me; let me eat the bread appointed unto me:
9 Lest I become over-full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the Lord? or lest I become poor, and steal, and trespass against the name of my God.
10 Do not calumniate a servant unto his master: lest he curse thee, and thou incur guilt.
11 There is a generation that curseth its father, and doth not bless its mother.
12 There is a generation that is pure in its own eyes, and yet is not washed clean of its filthiness.
13 There is a generation—O how lofty are its eyes! and its eyelids are so lifted up.
14 There is a generation, whose teeth are as swords, and whose string teeth are as knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men.
15 Insatiability hath two daughters, crying, Give, give. There are three things that are never satisfied, yea, four things which never say, Enough:
16 The nether world; and a barren womb; the earth which is not satisfied with water; and the fire which never saith, Enough.
17 The eye that mocketh at his father, and despiseth to obey his mother, this shall the ravens of the valley pick out; and the young eagles shall eat it.
18 Three things there are which are too wonderful for me; and four, which I know not:
19 The way of the eagle in the air; the way of a serpent upon a rock; the way of a ship in the heart of the sea; and the way of a man with a young woman.
20 Such is the way of an adulterous woman: she eateth, and wipeth her mouth, and saith, I have done no wrong.
21 Under three things the earth trembleth, and under four which she cannot bear:
22 Under a servant when he becometh king, and a worthless fool when he hath eaten enough bread;
23 Under an odious woman when she is married, and a bond-woman when she dispossesseth her mistress.
24 There are four which are the little ones of the earth, and they are nevertheless exceedingly wise:
25 The ants are a people not strong, therefore do they prepare in the summer their food;
26 The conies are but a feeble people, therefore do they place on the rocks their houses;
27 The locusts have no king, and yet they go forth in troops altogether;
28 The spider thou canst catch with thy hands, and yet she is in the palaces of a king.
29 Three there are that have a stately step, and four, that are stately in going:
30 The lion, the mightiest among beasts, who turneth not round from before any one;
31 The light-legged greyhound, and the he-goat; and a king, against whom there is no rising up.

28 The lizard seizeth with its hands, And is in king's palaces.
29 These three have a graceful step; Yea, four are graceful in their walk:
30 The lion, the hero among beasts, Which turneth not back for any;
31 The loin-girded war-horse, the he-goat, And a king who cannot be withstood.

Proverbs [Sayings] 30:4-31 in One Unity Resource Bible

4 Who has ascended up into heaven, and descended? Who has gathered the wind in his fists? Who has bound the waters in his garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and what is his son’s name, if you know?
5 “Every d'var Elohim ·word of God· is flawless. He is a shield to those who take refuge in him.
6 Don’t you add to his words, lest he reprove you, and you be found a liar.
7 “Two things I have asked of you; don’t deny me before I die:
8 Remove far from me falsehood and lies. Give me neither poverty nor riches. Feed me with the food that is chok ·portioned, needful· for me;
9 lest I be full, deny you, and say, ‘Who is Adonai ?’ or lest I be poor, and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God.
10 “Don’t slander a servant to his master, lest he curse you, and you be held guilty.
11 There is a generation that curses their father, and does not bless their mother.
12 There is a generation that is pure in their own eyes, yet are not washed from their filthiness.
13 There is a generation, oh how lofty are their eyes! Their eyelids are lifted up.
14 There is a generation whose teeth are like swords, and their jaws like knives, to devour the poor from the earth, and the needy from among men.
15 “The leach has two daughters: they cry, ‘Give, give.’ “There are three things that are never satisfied; four that don’t say, ‘Enough:’
16 Sheol ·Place of the dead·, the barren racham ·womb, bowels of compassion·; the earth that is not satisfied with water; and the fire that does not say, ‘Enough.’
17 “The eye that mocks at his father, and scorns obedience to his mother: the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, the young eagles shall eat it.
18 “There are three things which are too amazing for me, four which I don’t understand:
19 The way of an eagle in the air; the way of a serpent on a rock; the way of a ship in the middle of the sea; and the way of a man with a maiden.
20 “So is the way of an adulterous woman: she eats and wipes her mouth, and says, ‘I have done nothing wrong.’
21 “For three things the earth tremble, and under four, it can’t bear up:
22 For a servant when he is king; a fool when he is filled with food;
23 for an unloved (wife) when her husband takes her (back); and a servant who is heir to her mistress.
24 “There are four things which are little on the earth, but they are exceedingly wise:
25 the ants are not a strong people, yet they provide their food in the summer.
26 The conies are but a feeble folk, yet make they their houses in the rocks.
27 The locusts have no king, yet they advance in ranks.
28 You can catch a lizard with your hands, yet it is in kings’ palaces.
29 “There are three things which are stately in their march, four which are stately in going:
30 The lion, which is mightiest among animals, and does not turn away for any;
31 the greyhound, the billy-goat and the king when his army is with him.

Proverbs 30:4-31 in Unlocked Literal Bible

4 Who has gone up to heaven and come down? Who has gathered up the wind in the hollow of his hands? Who has gathered up the waters in a cloak? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and what is the name of his son? Surely you know!
5 Every word of God is tested; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.
6 Do not add to his words, or he will discipline you, and you will be proved to be a liar.
7 Two things I ask of you, do not withhold them from me before I die:
8 Put vanity and lies far away from me. Give me neither poverty nor riches, just give me the food I need.
9 For if I have too much, I might deny you and say, “Who is Yahweh?” Or if I become poor, I might steal and profane the name of my God.
10 Do not slander a slave before his master, or he will curse you and you will be held guilty.
11 There is a generation that curses their father and does not bless their mother.
12 There is a generation that is pure in their own eyes, and yet they are not washed of their filth.
13 There is a generation whose eyes are raised up, and how high are their eyelids lifted up!
14 There is a generation whose teeth are swords, and their jawbones are like knives, so they may devour the poor from the earth and the needy from among humanity.
15 The leech has two daughters: “Give and give” they cry. There are three things that are never satisfied, four that never say, “Enough”:
16 Sheol; the barren womb; land that is never satisfied with water; and the fire that never says, “Enough!”
17 The eye that mocks a father and scorns obedience to a mother, his eyes will be pecked out by the ravens of the valley, and he will be eaten by the vultures.
18 There are three things that are too wonderful for me, four that I do not understand:
19 the way of an eagle in the sky; the way of a snake on a rock; the way of a ship in the heart of the sea; and the way of a man with a young woman.
20 This is the way of an adulteress: she eats and she wipes her mouth and says, “I have done nothing wrong.”
21 Under three things the earth trembles, and under four it cannot bear up:
22 a slave when he becomes king; a fool when he is filled with food;
23 a hated woman when she marries; and a maid when she takes the place of her mistress.
24 Four things on earth are small and yet they are very wise:
25 the ants are creatures that are not strong, but they prepare their food in the summer;
26 the rock badgers are not mighty creatures, but they make their homes in the rocks.
27 Locusts have no king, but all of them march in rank.
28 As for the lizard, you can hold it in your two hands, yet they are found in kings' palaces.
29 There are three things that are stately in their stride and four that are stately in how they walk:
30 a lion, strongest among wild animals— it does not turn away from anything;
31 a strutting rooster; a goat; and a king whose soldiers are beside him.

4 Who hath ascended into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son's name, if thou canst tell?
5 Every word of God is pure: he is a shield to them that put their trust in him.
6 Add thou not to his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.
7 Two things have I required of thee; deny them not to me before I die:
8 Remove far from me vanity and lies; give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me:
9 Lest I be full, and deny thee , and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain .
10 Accuse not a servant to his master, lest he curse thee, and thou be found guilty.
11 There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother.
12 There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet are not washed from their filthiness.
13 There is a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! and their eyelids are lifted up.
14 There is a generation, whose teeth are as swords, and their jaw-teeth as knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men.
15 The horse-leech hath two daughters, crying , Give, give. There are three things that are never satisfied, yes , four things say not, It is enough:
16 The grave; and the barren womb; the earth that is not filled with water; and the fire that saith not, It is enough.
17 The eye that mocketh at its father, and despiseth to obey its mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it.
18 There are three things which are too wonderful for me, yes, four which I know not:
19 The way of an eagle in the air; the way of a serpent upon a rock; the way of a ship in the midst of the sea; and the way of a man with a maid.
20 Such is the way of an adulterous woman; she eateth, and wipeth her mouth, and saith, I have done no wickedness.
21 For three things the earth is disquieted, and for four which it cannot bear:
22 For a servant when he reigneth; and a fool when he is filled with food.
23 For an odious woman when she is married; and a handmaid that is heir to her mistress.
24 There are four things which are little upon the earth, but they are very wise:
25 The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their food in the summer;
26 The conies are but a feeble people, yet they make their houses in the rocks;
27 The locusts have no king, yet go they forth all of them by bands;
28 The spider taketh hold with her hands, and is in king's palaces.
29 There are three things which go well, yes, four are comely in going:
30 A lion, which is strongest among beasts, and turneth not away for any;
31 A greyhound; a he-goat also; and a king, against whom there is no rising up.

Proverbs 30:4-31 in Wycliffe's Bible with Modern Spelling

4 Who ascended or went up into heaven, and came down? Who held together the spirit or wind in his hands? who bound together waters as in a cloth? Who raised up all the ends of the earth? What is the name of him? and what is the name of his son, if thou knowest?
5 Each word of God is a shield set afire, to all that hope in him.
6 Add thou not anything to the words of him, and thou be reproved, and be found a liar.
7 I prayed thee for two things; deny not thou them to me, before that I die.
8 Make thou far from me vanity and words of leasing; give thou not to me begging and riches; but give thou only necessaries to my lifelode;
9 lest peradventure I be full-filled, and be drawn to deny, and say, Who is the Lord? and lest I be compelled by neediness, and steal, and forswear the name of my God.
10 Accuse thou not a servant to his lord, lest peradventure he curse thee, and thou fall down.
11 A generation that curseth his father, and that blesseth not his mother.
12 A generation that seemeth clean to itself, and nevertheless is not washed from his filths.
13 A generation whose eyes be high, and the eyelids thereof be raised up into high things.
14 A generation that hath swords for teeth, and eateth with his cheek teeth; that it eat the needy men of the earth, and the poor-alls or the poor of men.
15 The water leach hath two daughters, saying, Bring, bring. Three things be unable to be filled, and the fourth, that saith never, It sufficeth;
16 hell; and the mouth of the womb; and the earth that is never filled with water; but fire that saith never, It sufficeth.
17 Crows of the strand or the streams peck out that eye, that scorneth the father, and that despiseth the child-bearing of his mother; and the young of an eagle eat that eye.
18 Three things be hard to me, and utterly I know not the fourth thing;
19 the way of an eagle in heaven; the way of a serpent on a stone; the way of a ship in the middle of the sea; and the way of a man in his young waxing age.
20 Such is the way of a woman adulteress, which eateth, and wipeth her mouth, and saith, I wrought not evil.
21 The earth is moved by three things, and by the fourth thing, which it may not sustain;
22 by a servant, when he reigneth; by a fool, when he is filled with meat;
23 by an hateful woman, when she is taken in matrimony; and by an handmaid, when she is heir of her lady.
24 Four things be the least things of the earth, and those be wiser than wise men;
25 ants, a feeble people, that make ready meat in harvest to themselves;
26 a hare, a people unmighty, that setteth his bed in a stone;
27 a locust hath no king, and all goeth out by companies;
28 a lizard enforceth or endeavoureth with hands, and dwelleth in the houses of kings.
29 Three things there be, that go well, and the fourth thing, that goeth richly, either by prosperity.
30 A lion, strongest of beasts, shall not dread, at the meeting of any man;
31 a cock, girded up the loins; and a ram, and a king, and none there is that shall against-stand him.

Proverbs 30:4-31 in Wycliffe's Bible with Modern Spelling (Enhanced)

4 Who ascended into heaven, and came down (again)? Who held together the spirit in his hands? who bound together waters as in a cloth? (or Who held together the wind in his hands? who bound up the waters in a cloak?) Who raised (up) all the ends of the earth? What is the name of him? and what is the name of his son, if thou knowest?
5 Each word of God is a shield set afire, to all that hope in him. (Each word of God is fired, and he is a shield for all who hope in him.)
6 Add thou not anything to the words of him, and thou be reproved, and be found a liar. (Do not thou add anything to his words, lest thou be rebuked, and be found a liar.)
7 I prayed (of) thee two things; deny not thou them to me, before that I die.
8 Make thou far from me vanity and words of leasing; give thou not to me begging and riches; but give thou only necessaries to my lifelode; (Make thou far from me emptiness and futility, or uselessness, and words of lying, or lies; give thou not to me begging or riches; but give thou only the necessities for my sustenance;)
9 lest peradventure I be full-filled, and be drawn to deny, and say, Who is the Lord? and lest I be compelled by neediness, and steal, and forswear the name of my God. (lest perhaps I be filled full, and be drawn to deny, and then say, Who is the Lord? or lest I be compelled by neediness, and steal, and forswear the name of my God.)
10 Accuse thou not a servant to his lord, lest peradventure he curse thee, and thou fall down.
11 (There is) A generation that curseth his father, and that blesseth not his mother. (There be people who curse their fathers, and do not bless their mothers.)

13 (There is) A generation whose eyes be high, and the eyelids thereof be raised up into high things. (There be people whose eyes be haughty, and whose glances be raised up, or disdainful.)
14 (There is) A generation that hath swords for teeth, and eateth with his cheek teeth; that it eat the needy men of the earth, and the poor-alls of men. (There be people who have swords for teeth, and eat with their molars; and they eat the needy of the earth, and those who be all-poor, or without anything.)
15 The water leach hath two daughters, saying, Bring, bring. Three things be unable to be filled, and the fourth, that saith never, It sufficeth, (or and the fourth, that never saith, It sufficeth);

17 (Let the) Crows of the strand peck out that eye, that scorneth the father, and that despiseth the child-bearing of his mother; and (let) the young of an eagle eat that eye.
18 Three things be hard to me, and utterly I know not the fourth thing (or and the fourth thing I utterly know not);
19 the way of an eagle in (the) heaven(s); the way of a serpent on a stone; the way of a ship in the middle of the sea; and the way of a man in (his) young waxing age.
20 Such is the way of a woman adulteress, which eateth, and wipeth her mouth, and saith, I wrought not evil. (Such is the way of an adulterous woman, who eateth, and wipeth her mouth, and then saith, I have done nothing wrong.)

23 by an hateful woman, when she is taken in matrimony; and by an handmaid, when she is heir of her lady, (or and by a servantess, when she is her lady’s heir).
24 Four things be the least things of the earth, and those be wiser than wise men;
25 ants, a feeble people, that make ready meat in harvest to themselves; (ants, a weak, or a lowly, people, that store up food for themselves at harvest time;)
26 a hare, a people unmighty, that setteth his bed in a stone; (rock badgers, also an unmighty people, who make their beds among the rocks;)
27 a locust, (that) hath no king, and (yet) all goeth out by companies;
28 a lizard, enforceth with hands, and dwelleth in the houses of kings. (and a lizard, that endeavoureth with his hands, and liveth in palaces.)
29 Three things there be, that go well, (or And there be three things, that go well), and the fourth thing, that goeth richly, or wellsomely.
30 A lion, strongest of beasts, shall not dread, at the meeting of any man; (A lion, the strongest of beasts, that shall not fear the meeting of any man;)
31 a cock, girded up the loins; and a ram, (and a king), and none there is that shall against-stand him. (a strutting rooster; and a ram; and a king for whom there is no one who shall stand up against him.)

Proverbs 30:4-31 in Young's Literal Translation

4 Who went up to heaven, and cometh down? Who hath gathered the wind in his fists? Who hath bound waters in a garment? Who established all ends of the earth? What is His name? and what His son's name? Surely thou knowest!
5 Every saying of God is tried, A shield He is to those trusting in Him.
6 Add not to His words, lest He reason with thee, And thou hast been found false.
7 Two things I have asked from Thee, Withhold not from me before I die.
8 Vanity and a lying word put far from me, Poverty or wealth give not to me, Cause me to eat the bread of my portion,
9 Lest I become satiated, and have denied, And have said, 'Who is Jehovah?' And lest I be poor, and have stolen, And have laid hold of the name of my God.
10 Accuse not a servant unto his lord, Lest he disesteem thee, and thou be found guilty.
11 A generation is, that lightly esteemeth their father, And their mother doth not bless.
12 A generation — pure in their own eyes, But from their own filth not washed.
13 A generation — how high are their eyes, Yea, their eyelids are lifted up.
14 A generation — swords are their teeth, And knives — their jaw-teeth, To consume the poor from earth, And the needy from among men.
15 To the leech are two daughters, 'Give, give, Lo, three things are not satisfied, Four have not said 'Sufficiency;'
16 Sheol, and a restrained womb, Earth — it is not satisfied with water, And fire — it hath not said, 'Sufficiency,'
17 An eye that mocketh at a father, And despiseth to obey a mother, Dig it out do ravens of the valley, And eat it do young eagles.
18 Three things have been too wonderful for me, Yea, four that I have not known:
19 The way of the eagle in the heavens, The way of a serpent on a rock, The way of a ship in the heart of the sea, And the way of a man in youth.
20 So — the way of an adulterous woman, She hath eaten and hath wiped her mouth, And hath said, 'I have not done iniquity.'
21 For three things hath earth been troubled, And for four — it is not able to bear:
22 For a servant when he reigneth, And a fool when he is satisfied with bread,
23 For a hated one when she ruleth, And a maid-servant when she succeedeth her mistress.
24 Four are little ones of earth, And they are made wiser than the wise:
25 The ants are a people not strong, And they prepare in summer their food,
26 Conies are a people not strong, And they place in a rock their house,
27 A king there is not to the locust, And it goeth out — each one shouting,
28 A spider with two hands taketh hold, And is in the palaces of a king.
29 Three there are going well, Yea, four are good in going:
30 An old lion — mighty among beasts, That turneth not back from the face of any,
31 A girt one of the loins, or a he-goat, And a king — no rising up with him.
