Proverbs 24:31-34 in English

³¹ And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, The face thereof was covered with nettles, And the stone wall thereof was broken down.

³² Then I beheld, and considered well; I saw, and received instruction:

³³ Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to sleep;

³⁴ So shall thy poverty come as a robber, And thy want as an armed man.

³¹ If thou let him alone, he will altogether remain barren and covered with weeds; and he becomes destitute, and his stone walls are broken down.

³² Afterwards I reflected, I looked that I might receive instruction.

³³ The sluggard says, I slumber a little, and I sleep a little, and for a little while I fold my arms across my breast.

³⁴ But if thou do this, thy poverty will come speedily; and thy want like a swift courier.

³¹ And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down.

³² Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction.

³¹ I was surprised to see that the fields were full of all kinds of thorny bushes, and the stone wall around the garden had ◄collapsed/fallen down►.

³² When I saw that, I thought about it, and I learned this:

³³ If you spend a lot of time sleeping and napping and folding your hands while you rest,

³⁴ soon you will become poor; it will be as though PRS, SIM a bandit who had a weapon in his hand attacked you and stole all that you had.

³⁴ So loss will come on you like an outlaw, and your need like an armed man.

³¹ and lo, it was all grown over with thistles, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and its stone wall was broken down.

³² Then I looked, I took it to heart; I saw, I received instruction:

³³ — A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest!

³⁴ So shall thy poverty come as a roving plunderer, and thy penury as an armed man.

³¹ And behold it was all filled with nettles, and thorns had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall was broken down.

³² Which when I had seen, I laid it up in my heart, and by the example I received instruction.

³³ Thou wilt sleep a little, said I, thou wilt slumber a little, thou wilt fold thy hands a little to rest:

³⁴ And poverty shall come to thee as a runner, and beggary as an armed man.

³¹ It was all overgrown with thorns, the ground was covered with weeds, and the stone wall had fallen down.

³² As I looked I thought about it, and what I saw taught me a lesson:

³³ You may say, “Please, just a little more sleep, a little longer snooze, a little more folding of the arms to rest”—

³⁴ and poverty will attack you like a robber, destitution like an armed warrior.

³¹ And lo, it was al growen ouer with thornes, and nettles had couered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken downe.

³² Then I behelde, and I considered it well: I looked vpon it, and receiued instruction.

³³ Yet a litle sleepe, a litle slumber, a litle folding of the handes to sleepe.

³⁴ So thy pouertie commeth as one that traueileth by the way, and thy necessitie like an armed man.

³¹ And, lo, it was all grown over with thistles, the face thereof was covered with nettles, and the stone wall thereof was broken down.

³² Then I beheld, and considered well; I saw, and received instruction.

³³ 'Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep' —

³² Then I saw and considered it; I looked and received instruction.

³⁴ and poverty comes marching upon you, and your needs like an armed soldier.

³¹ Behold, it was all grown over with thorns. Its surface was covered with nettles, and its stone wall was broken down.

³² And when I had seen this thing, I setted or put in mine heart, and by ensample, I learned teaching.

³³ How long sleepest thou, slow man? when shalt thou rise from sleep? Soothly thou shalt sleep a little, thou shalt nap a little, thou shalt join together the hands a little, to take rest;

³⁴ and then thy neediness as a courier shall come to thee, and thy beggary as an armed man.

³¹ and lo! nettles had filled all, thorns had covered the higher part thereof, and the wall of stones without mortar was destroyed.

³² And when I had seen this thing, I setted (it) in mine heart, and by ensample, I learned (the) teaching. (And when I had seen this, I put it in my heart, and by example, I learned the lesson.)

³³ How long sleepest thou, slow man? when shalt thou rise from sleep? Soothly thou shalt sleep a little, thou shalt nap a little, thou shalt join together the hands a little, to take rest; (How long sleepest thou, O lazy man? when shalt thou rise from sleep? Truly thou shalt sleep a little, thou shalt nap a little, and then thou shalt join together thy hands a little, and take rest again;)

³⁴ and then thy neediness as a courier shall come to thee, and thy beggary as an armed man.

³¹ And lo, it hath gone up — all of it — thorns! Covered its face have nettles, And its stone wall hath been broken down.

³² And I see — I — I do set my heart, I have seen — I have received instruction,

³³ A little sleep — a little slumber — A little folding of the hands to lie down.

³⁴ And thy poverty hath come as a traveller, And thy want as an armed man!
