¹ Be not thou envious against evil men; Neither desire to be with them:

² For their heart studieth oppression, And their lips talk of mischief.

³ Through wisdom is a house builded; And by understanding it is established;

⁴ And by knowledge are the chambers filled With all precious and pleasant riches.

⁵ A wise man is strong; Yea, a man of knowledge increaseth might.

⁶ For by wise guidance thou shalt make thy war; And in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.

⁷ Wisdom is too high for a fool: He openeth not his mouth in the gate.

⁸ He that deviseth to do evil, Men shall call him a mischief-maker.

⁹ The thought of foolishness is sin; And the scoffer is an abomination to men.

¹⁰ If thou faint in the day of adversity, Thy strength is small.

¹ My son, envy not bad men, nor desire to be with them.

³ People make good houses (OR, families) by doing what is wise, and they make their houses (OR, families) strong by heeding good advice.

⁴ By using good sense, they are able to buy valuable and beautiful things and put them in the rooms of their houses.

⁵ Being wise is better than being strong/powerful; those who know many things can accomplish more than those who are very strong.

⁶ Leaders can fight battles if they have wise advisors, and they win those battles if they have many good advisors.

⁷ Foolish people cannot understand wise sayings/talk; at public meetings they are not able to say anything that is useful.

⁸ Those who are always planning to do evil things will be called troublemakers.

⁹ It is sinful to plan to do foolish things, and people hate those who make fun of everything that is good.

¹⁰ If you act as though you are helpless when you have troubles, you are truly very weak.

⁵ A wise man is strong: and a knowing man, stout and valiant.

⁶ Because war is managed by due ordering: and there shall be safety where there are many counsels.

¹⁰ If thou lose hope being weary in the day of distress, thy strength shall be diminished.

¹ Don't be jealous of evil people; don't long to spend time with them,

² for they think up cruel plans and discuss how to cause trouble.

³ A house is built by wisdom; its foundation is made secure through understanding.

⁴ Its rooms are filled by knowledge with all kinds of valuable and beautiful objects.

⁵ If you have wisdom, you are strong; if you have knowledge, your power increases,

⁶ for with wise guidance you can go to war; you will be victorious by having many good advisors.

⁷ Wisdom goes over the heads of stupid people; they have nothing to contribute when important matters are discussed.

⁸ Anyone who plans to do evil will be seen as a troublemaker.

⁹ Plans thought up by stupid people are sinful. Everyone hates those who are scornful of others.

¹⁰ If you give up in times of trouble, it shows how weak you are.

⁸ Hee that imagineth to doe euill, men shall call him an autour of wickednes.

⁹ The wicked thought of a foole is sinne, and the scorner is an abomination vnto men.

¹⁰ If thou bee faint in the day of aduersitie, thy strength is small.

² For the soul of them bethinketh (on) ravens, and their lips speak frauds. (For their minds think about robberies, and their lips speak lies.)

³ An house shall be builded by wisdom, and it shall be made strong by prudence, (or by understanding).

⁴ The Cellars shall be filled in teaching, with all riches precious and full fair. (By knowledge and study, the cellars shall be filled with all precious and beautiful things of riches.)

⁸ He that thinketh to do evils, shall be called a fool.

⁹ The thought of a fool is (a) sin; and a backbiter is abomination of men (or and a backbiter is an abomination to everyone).

¹⁰ If thou hast slid, despairest (thou) in the day of anguish, (for) thy strength shall be made less.

² For destruction doth their heart meditate, And perverseness do their lips speak.

³ By wisdom is a house builded, And by understanding it establisheth itself.

⁵ Mighty is the wise in strength, And a man of knowledge is strengthening power,

⁶ For by plans thou makest for thyself war, And deliverance is in a multitude of counsellors.
