Proverbs 21:2-18 in American Standard Version (1901)

2 Every way of a man is right in his own eyes; But Jehovah weigheth the hearts.
3 To do righteousness and justice Is more acceptable to Jehovah than sacrifice.
4 A high look, and a proud heart, Even the lamp of the wicked, is sin.
5 The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; But every one that is hasty hasteth only to want.
6 The getting of treasures by a lying tongue Is a vapor driven to and fro by them that seek death.
7 The violence of the wicked shall sweep them away, Because they refuse to do justice.
8 The way of him that is laden with guilt is exceeding crooked; But as for the pure, his work is right.
9 It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, Than with a contentious woman in a wide house.
10 The soul of the wicked desireth evil: His neighbor findeth no favor in his eyes.
11 When the scoffer is punished, the simple is made wise; And when the wise is instructed, he receiveth knowledge.
12 The righteous man considereth the house of the wicked, How the wicked are overthrown to their ruin.
13 Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, He also shall cry, but shall not be heard.
14 A gift in secret pacifieth anger; And a present in the bosom, strong wrath.
15 It is joy to the righteous to do justice; But it is a destruction to the workers of iniquity.
16 The man that wandereth out of the way of understanding Shall rest in the assembly of the dead.
17 He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man: He that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich.
18 The wicked is a ransom for the righteous; And the treacherous cometh in the stead of the upright.

Proverbs 21:2-18 in Brenton Septuagint Translation

2 Every man seems to himself righteous; but the Lord directs the hearts.
3 To do justly and to speak truth, are more pleasing to God than the blood of sacrifices.
4 A high-minded man is stout-hearted in his pride; and the lamp of the wicked is sin.
6 He that gathers treasures with a lying tongue pursues vanity on to the snares of death.
7 Destruction shall lodge with the ungodly; for they refuse to do justly.
8 To the froward God sends froward ways; for his works are pure and right.
9 It is better to dwell in a corner on the house-top, than in plastered rooms with unrighteousness, and in an open house.
10 The soul of the ungodly shall not be pitied by any man.
11 When an intemperate man is punished the simple becomes wiser: and a wise man understanding will receive knowledge.
12 A righteous man understands the hearts of the ungodly: and despises the ungodly for their wickedness.
13 He that stops his ears from hearing the poor, himself also shall cry, and there shall be none to hear him.
14 A secret gift calms anger: but he that forbears to give stirs up strong wrath.
15 It is the joy of the righteous to do judgment: but a holy man is abominable with evil-doers.
16 A man that wanders out of the way of righteousness, shall rest in the congregation of giants.
17 A poor man loves mirth, loving wine and oil in abundance;
18 and a transgressor is the abomination of a righteous man.

Proverbs 21:2-18 in Translation for Translators

2 People always think that what they do is right, but Yahweh judges our ◄motives/reasons for doing things► MTY.
3 Doing what is right and fair is more acceptable to Yahweh than bringing sacrifices to him.
4 Being proud and arrogant DOU is like a lamp MTY that guides wicked people; being proud and arrogant characterizes ◄wicked people's whole behavior/everything that wicked people do►.
5 People who plan carefully will surely have plenty of what they need; those who act too quickly to become rich will become poor.
6 Money that people acquire by cheating others by lying MTY to them will soon disappear like a mist, and doing that will soon lead to their death.
7 Wicked people refuse to do what is right/just, but they will be ruined because of the violent things PRS that they do.
8 Guilty people continually do what is evil; it is as though MET they are walking on a crooked road; but righteous/innocent people always do what is right.
9 It is better to live in the corner of an attic/housetop by yourself than to live inside the house with a wife who is always nagging.
10 Wicked people SYN are always wanting to do what is evil; they never act mercifully toward anyone.
11 When those who ridicule others are punished, even those who do not have good sense see that, and they become wise, and when those who are wise are taught, they become wiser.
12 God, the one who is completely righteous, knows what happens inside the houses of wicked people, and he will cause those people to be completely ruined/destroyed.
13 There are people who refuse to listen when poor people cry out for help; but some day they themselves will cry out for help, and no one will hear them.
14 When someone is angry with you, if you secretly give him a gift, he will stop being angry.
15 Good/Righteous people are happy when they see others do what is just/fair, but those who do what is evil are terrified when they think about what may happen to them.
16 Those who stop behaving like those who have good sense behave will soon discover that they have gone to the place where dead people are.
17 Those who spend their money to buy ◄things that give them pleasure/things that cause them to feel happy► will become poor; those who love to spend money to buy wine and nice/fancy food MTY will never become rich.
18 Wicked people bring on themselves the sufferings that they were trying to cause righteous people to experience DOU.

Proverbs 21:2-18 in Bible in Basic English

2 Every way of a man seems right to himself, but the Lord is the tester of hearts.
3 To do what is right and true is more pleasing to the Lord than an offering.
4 A high look and a heart of pride, ***of the evil-doer is sin.
5 The purposes of the man of industry have their outcome only in wealth; but one who is over-quick in acting will only come to be in need.
6 He who gets stores of wealth by a false tongue, is going after what is only breath, and searching for death.
7 By their violent acts the evil-doers will be pulled away, because they have no desire to do what is right.
8 Twisted is the way of him who is full of crime; but as for him whose heart is clean, his work is upright.
9 It is better to be living in an angle of the house-top, than with a bitter-tongued woman in a wide house.
10 The desire of the evil-doer is fixed on evil: he has no kind feeling for his neighbour.
11 When the man of pride undergoes punishment, the simple man gets wisdom; and by watching the wise he gets knowledge.
12 The Upright One, looking on the house of the evil-doer, lets sinners be overturned to their destruction.
13 He whose ears are stopped at the cry of the poor, will himself get no answer to his cry for help.
14 By a secret offering wrath is turned away, and the heat of angry feelings by money in the folds of the robe.
15 It is a joy to the good man to do right, but it is destruction to the workers of evil.
16 The wanderer from the way of knowledge will have his resting-place among the shades.
17 The lover of pleasure will be a poor man: the lover of wine and oil will not get wealth.
18 The evil-doer will be given as a price for the life of the good man, and the worker of deceit in the place of the upright.

Proverbs 21:2-18 in Free Bible Version

2 People think that whatever they do is fine, but the Lord looks at their motives.
3 Doing what's right and fair pleases the Lord more than sacrifices.
4 Pride and arrogance are the sins the wicked live by.
5 Those who plan ahead and work hard will have plenty, while those who act rashly end up poor.
6 Money made by lies is like smoke in the wind—a chase that ends in death.
7 The destruction caused by the wicked will destroy them, for they refuse to do what's right.
8 Guilty people live crooked lives, but the innocent follow straight paths.
9 It's better to live in a corner of a housetop than to share a whole house with an argumentative wife.
10 Evil people love to do wrong, they don't care what pain they cause anyone.
11 When a mocker is punished, an immature person can learn wisdom. When the wise are educated, they gain knowledge.
12 The God of justice sees what happens in the homes of the wicked, and brings the wicked down in disaster.
13 If you refuse to hear the cries of the poor, your cries won't be heard either.
14 A gift given in secret calms down anger, and a hidden bribe soothes furious rage.
15 When justice is done, the good are happy, but it brings terror to those who do evil.
16 Anyone who wanders away from the path of understanding ends up with the dead.
17 If you love pleasure you'll become poor; if you love wine and olive oil you won't ever be rich.
18 The wicked pay the price and not the good; those who are deceitful and not those who live right.

Proverbs 21:2-18 in Isaac Leeser Tanakh

2 Every way of a man is straight in his own eyes; but the Lord weigheth the hearts.
3 To exercise righteousness and justice is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.
4 Haughtiness of the eyes, and an immoderate heart, are the sinful field of the wicked.
5 The plans of the diligent tend only to plenty; but every hasty man is destined only to want.
6 The getting of treasures by a tongue of falsehood is like the fleeting breath of those that seek death.
7 The robbery of the wicked will drag them away; because they refuse to execute justice.
8 Perverse is the way of the man that is estranged from goodness; but as for the pure, his work is upright.
9 It is better to dwell in a corner of a roof, than with a quarrelsome woman in a roomy house.
10 The soul of the wicked longeth for evil: his neighbor findeth no grace in his eyes.
11 When the scorner is punished, the simple is made wise: and when the wise is taught intelligence, he receiveth knowledge.
12 The righteous regardeth attentively the house of the wicked; but God overturneth the wicked into unhappiness.
13 Whoso stoppeth his ears against the cry of the poor, he also will cry himself, but shall not be answered.
14 A gift in secret pacifieth anger, and a bribe in the bosom, strong fury.
15 It is joy to the righteous to execute justice; but it is a terror to wrong-doers.
16 The man that wandereth astray out of the way of intelligence shall rest in the assembly of the departed.
17 He that loveth pleasure will be a man of want: he that loveth wine and oil will not become rich.
18 The wicked shall be a ransom for the righteous, and the treacherous shall be put in the stead of the upright.

2 Every man seems to himself righteous; But the Lord directs the hearts.
3 To do justly and to speak truth, Are more pleasing to God than the blood of sacrifices.
4 A high-minded man is stouthearted in his pride; And the lamp of the wicked is sin.
6 He that gathers treasures with a lying tongue Pursues vanity on to the snares of death.
7 Destruction shall lodge with the ungodly; For they refuse to do justly.
8 To the froward God sends froward ways; For his works are pure and right.
9 It is better to dwell in a corner on the housetop, Than in plastered rooms with unrighteousness, and in an open house.
15 It is the joy of the righteous to do judgment: But a holy man is abominable with evildoers.
16 A man that wanders out of the way of righteousness, Shall rest in the congregation of giants.
17 A poor man loves mirth, Loving wine and oil in abundance;
18 And a transgressor is the abomination of a righteous man.

2 Each way of a man seemeth rightful or right to himself; but the Lord weigheth the hearts.
3 To do mercy and doom, pleaseth more the Lord, than sacrifices.
4 Enhancing of eyes is the alarging of the heart; the lantern of wicked men is sin.
5 The thoughts of a strong man be ever in abundance; but each slow man is ever in neediness.
6 He that gathereth treasures by the tongue of a lie maker, is vain, and without heart; and he shall be hurled to the snares of death.
7 The ravens of unpious men shall draw them down; for they would not do doom.
8 The wayward way of a man is alien from God; but the work of him that is clean of sin, is rightful or right.
9 It is better to sit in the corner of an house without roof, than with a woman full of chiding, and in a common house.
10 The soul of an unpious man desireth evil; he shall not have mercy on his neighbour.
11 When a man full of pestilence is punished, a little man of wit shall be wiser; and if he pursueth or follow a wise man, he shall take knowing.
12 A just or rightwise man of the house of a wicked man thinketh, to withdraw wicked men from evil.
13 He that stoppeth his ear at the cry of a poor man, shall cry also, and he shall not be heard.
14 A gift hid quencheth chidings; and a gift in the bosom quencheth most indignation.
15 It is joy to a just or rightwise man to make doom; and it is dread to them that work wickedness.
16 A man that erreth from the way of doctrine, shall dwell in the company of giants, that is, of men evil ruled, either of fiends.
17 He that loveth meats, shall be in neediness; he that loveth wine and fat things, shall not be made rich.
