Proverbs 1:24-33 in English

²⁴ Because I have called, and ye have refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man hath regarded;

²⁵ But ye have set at nought all my counsel, And would none of my reproof:

²⁶ I also will laugh in the day of your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;

²⁷ When your fear cometh as a storm, And your calamity cometh on as a whirlwind; When distress and anguish come upon you.

²⁸ Then will they call upon me, but I will not answer; They will seek me diligently, but they shall not find me:

²⁹ For that they hated knowledge, And did not choose the fear of Jehovah,

³⁰ They would none of my counsel, They despised all my reproof.

³¹ Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, And be filled with their own devices.

³² For the backsliding of the simple shall slay them, And the careless ease of fools shall destroy them.

³³ But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell securely, And shall be quiet without fear of evil.

²⁴ Since I called, and ye did not hearken; and I spoke at length, and ye gave no heed;

²⁵ but ye set at nought my counsels, and disregarded my reproofs;

²⁶ therefore I also will laugh at your destruction; and I will rejoice against you when ruin comes upon you:

²⁷ yea when dismay suddenly comes upon you, and your overthrow shall arrive like a tempest; and when tribulation and distress shall come upon you, or when ruin shall come upon you.

²⁹ For they hated wisdom, and did not choose the word of the Lord:

²⁵ I tried to advise you, but you refused to listen to me. I tried to correct you, but you rejected what I told you.

²⁶ So now, when you are experiencing troubles/disasters, I will laugh at you. When things happen that cause you to be afraid, I will make fun of you.

²⁷ When calamities strike you like a big storm, when disasters hit you like a violent wind, when all kinds of things distress you and give you trouble, I will ridicule you!

²⁸ Wisdom also says, “When foolish people call to me to help them, I will not answer them. They will search for me diligently/everywhere, but they will not find me.

²⁹ They refused to know what things are right, and they decided not to revere Yahweh.

³⁰ They would not accept my advice, and they did not pay attention when I tried to correct them.

³¹ So they will endure what will result MET, DOU from the evil way they have lived/behaved and the evil things they have planned to do.

³² Those who turn away from me are stupid/foolish; they will die because of doing that.

³³ But those who pay attention to me will live peacefully and safely, and they will not be afraid that something will harm them.”

²⁴ Since I called, and you° did not listen; and I spoke at length, and you° gave no heed;

²⁴ Because your ears were shut to my voice; no one gave attention to my out-stretched hand;

²⁵ You were not controlled by my guiding, and would have nothing to do with my sharp words:

²⁶ So in the day of your trouble I will be laughing; I will make sport of your fear;

²⁷ When your fear comes on you like a storm, and your trouble like a rushing wind; when pain and sorrow come on you.

²⁸ Then I will give no answer to their cries; searching for me early, they will not see me:

²⁹ For they were haters of knowledge, and did not give their hearts to the fear of the Lord:

³⁰ They had no desire for my teaching, and my words of protest were as nothing to them.

³¹ So the fruit of their way will be their food, and with the designs of their hearts they will be made full.

³² For the turning back of the simple from teaching will be the cause of their death, and the peace of the foolish will be their destruction.

³³ But whoever gives ear to me will take his rest safely, living in peace without fear of evil.

²⁴ Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no one regarded;

²⁵ and ye have rejected all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:

²⁶ I also will laugh in your calamity, I will mock when your fear cometh;

²⁷ when your fear cometh as sudden destruction, and your calamity cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish come upon you:

²⁸ — then will they call upon me, but I will not answer; they will seek me early, and shall not find me.

²⁹ Because they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of Jehovah;

³⁰ they would none of my counsel, they despised all my reproof:

³¹ therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their way, and be filled with their own devices.

³³ But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be at rest from fear of evil.

²⁵ You have despised all my counsel, and have neglected my reprehensions.

²⁶ I also will laugh in your destruction, and will mock when that shall come to you which you feared.

²⁷ When sudden calamity shall fall on you, and destruction, as a tempest, shall be at hand: when tribulation and distress shall come upon you:

²⁸ Then shall they call upon me, and I will not hear: they shall rise in the morning and shall not find me:

²⁹ Because they have hated instruction and received not the fear of the Lord,

³⁰ Nor consented to my counsel, but despised all my reproof.

³¹ Therefore they shall eat the fruit of their own way, and shall be filled with their own devices.

³² The turning away of little ones shall kill them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.

³³ But he that shall hear me, shall rest without terror, and shall enjoy abundance, without fear of evils.

²⁴ For I have called you, but you refused to listen; I reached out my hand to you, but you didn't care.

²⁵ You ignored everything I said; you wouldn't accept any of my warnings.

²⁶ So I'll laugh at you when you're in trouble; I'll mock you when you're in a panic.

²⁷ When panic rains down on you like a storm, when trouble hits you like a whirlwind, when sorrow and pain come on you,

²⁸ then you'll call out to me for help, but I won't answer; you'll search hard for me, but won't find me.

²⁹ Why?—because they hated knowledge, and they didn't choose to respect the Lord.

³⁰ They're not willing to accept my advice; they despise all my warnings.

³¹ So they'll have to eat the fruit of their own choices, bloated by their own devious schemes.

³² Stupid people are killed by their rebellion; foolish people are destroyed by their lack of concern.

³³ But everyone who listens to me will be kept safe, and will live without worrying about problems.”

²⁴ Because I haue called, and ye refused: I haue stretched out mine hand, and none woulde regarde.

²⁵ But ye haue despised all my counsell, and would none of my correction.

²⁶ I will also laugh at your destruction, and mocke, when your feare commeth.

²⁷ Whe your feare cometh like sudden desolation, and your destruction shall come like a whirle wind: whe affliction and anguish shall come vpon you,

²⁸ Then shall they call vpon me, but I will not answere: they shall seeke me early, but they shall not finde me,

²⁹ Because they hated knowledge, and did not chuse the feare of the Lord.

³⁰ They would none of my counsell, but despised all my correction.

³¹ Therefore shall they eate of ye fruite of their owne way, and be filled with their owne deuises.

³² For ease slaieth the foolish, and the prosperitie of fooles destroyeth them.

³³ But he that obeyeth me, shall dwell safely, and be quiet from feare of euill.

²⁴ Because I have called, and ye refused, I have stretched out my hand, and no man attended,

²⁵ But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof;

²⁶ I also, in your calamity, will laugh, I will mock when your dread cometh;

²⁷ When your dread cometh as a storm, and your calamity cometh on as a whirlwind; when trouble and distress come upon you.

²⁸ Then will they call me, but I will not answer, they will seek me earnestly, but they shall not find me.

²⁹ For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD;

³⁰ They would none of my counsel, they despised all my reproof.

³¹ Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.

³² For the waywardness of the thoughtless shall slay them, and the confidence of fools shall destroy them.

³³ But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell securely, and shall be quiet without fear of evil.'

²⁷ When your terror cometh like the tempest-cloud, and your calamity hasteneth like a whirlwind; when there come upon you distress and affliction.

²⁸ Then will they call me, but I will not answer; they will seek me earnestly, but they shall not find me;

²⁹ For the reason that they hated knowledge, and the fear of the Lord they did not choose;

³⁰ That they would not attend to my counsel: that they rejected all my admonition.

³¹ Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and from their own counsels shall they be satisfied.

³² For the defection of the simple will slay them, and the prosperity of fools will cause them to be lost.

³³ But he that hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be at rest from the dread of evil.

²⁴ Since I called, and ye did not hearken; And I spoke at length, and ye gave no heed;

²⁵ But ye set at nought my counsels, And disregarded my reproofs;

³³ But whoever sh'ma ·hears obeys· me will dwell securely, and will be at ease, without fear of harm.”

²⁴ I have called, and you have refused to listen; I reached out with my hand, but there was no one who paid attention.

²⁵ But you have ignored all my instruction and paid no attention to my correction.

²⁶ I will laugh at your calamity, I will mock you when the terror comes—

²⁷ when your fearful dread comes like a storm and disaster sweeps over you like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you.

²⁸ Then they will call upon me, and I will not answer; they will desperately call for me, but they will not find me.

²⁹ Because they hate knowledge and did not choose the fear of Yahweh,

³⁰ they would not follow my instruction, and they despised all my correction.

³¹ They will eat the fruit of their ways, and with the fruit of their schemes they will be filled.

³² For the naive are killed when they turn away, and the indifference of fools will destroy them.

³³ But whoever listens to me will live in safety and will rest secure with no fear of disaster.”

²⁵ Ye have despised all my counsel; and charged not my blamings.

²⁶ And I shall laugh in your perishing; and I shall scorn you, when that, that ye dread, cometh to you.

²⁷ When sudden wretchedness falleth in, and perishing befalleth as tempest; when tribulation and anguish cometh on you.

²⁸ Then they shall call me, and I shall not hear; they shall rise early, and they shall not find me.

²⁹ For they hated teaching, and they took not the dread of the Lord,

³⁰ neither they assented to my counsel, and they depraved all mine amending.

³¹ Therefore they shall eat the fruits of their way; and they shall be filled with their counsels.

³² The turning away of little men in wit shall slay them; and the prosperity of fools shall lose them.

³³ But he that heareth me, shall rest without dread; and he shall use abundance, when the dread of evils is taken away.

²⁴ For I called, and ye forsook; I held forth mine hand, and none there was that beheld. (For I called, but you would not listen to me; I held forth my hand, but no one paid any attention to it.)

²⁵ Ye have despised all my counsel; and charged not my blamings (or and would not listen to my rebukes).

²⁶ And I shall laugh in your perishing; and I shall scorn you, when that, that ye dread, cometh to you. (And so I shall laugh at your misfortune, or at your tribulation; and I shall scorn you, when what ye fear, cometh to you.)

²⁷ When sudden wretchedness falleth in, and perishing befalleth as (a) tempest; when tribulation and anguish cometh up on you.

²⁸ Then they shall call me, and I shall not hear (or but I shall not answer them); they shall rise early, and they shall not find me.

²⁹ For they hated teaching, and they took not the dread of the Lord, (For they hated instruction, and they chose not to fear the Lord, or and they chose not to have reverence for the Lord,)

³⁰ neither they assented to my counsel, and they depraved all mine amending. (nor would they assent to my advice, and they have spurned all of my correction.)

³¹ Therefore they shall eat the fruits of their (own) way; and they shall be filled with their (own) counsels.

³² The turning away of little men in wit shall slay them; and the prosperity of fools shall lose them. (This turning away by those with little wit, or with low intelligence, shall lead to their own slaughter, yea, the prosperity of fools shall bring about their own destruction.)

³³ But he that heareth me, shall rest without dread; and he shall use abundance, when the dread of evils is taken away. (But he who listeneth to me, shall rest without fear; and he shall enjoy his abundance, when the fear of evil is taken away.)

²⁴ Because I have called, and ye refuse, I stretched out my hand, and none is attending,

²⁵ And ye slight all my counsel, And my reproof ye have not desired.

²⁶ I also in your calamity do laugh, I deride when your fear cometh,

²⁷ When your fear cometh as destruction, And your calamity as a hurricane doth come, When on you come adversity and distress.

²⁸ Then they call me, and I do not answer, They seek me earnestly, and find me not.

²⁹ Because that they have hated knowledge, And the fear of Jehovah have not chosen.

³⁰ They have not consented to my counsel, They have despised all my reproof,

³¹ And they eat of the fruit of their way, And from their own counsels they are filled.

³² For the turning of the simple slayeth them, And the security of the foolish destroyeth them.

³³ And whoso is hearkening to me dwelleth confidently, And is quiet from fear of evil!'
