¹⁰ And the congregation sent thither twelve thousand men of the valiantest, and commanded them, saying, Go and smite the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead with the edge of the sword, with the women and the little ones.

¹¹ And this is the thing that ye shall do: ye shall utterly destroy every male, and every woman that hath lain by man.

¹² And they found among the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead four hundred young virgins, that had not known man by lying with him; and they brought them unto the camp to Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan.

¹³ And the whole congregation sent and spake to the children of Benjamin that were in the rock of Rimmon, and proclaimed peace unto them.

¹⁴ And Benjamin returned at that time; and they gave them the women whom they had saved alive of the women of Jabesh-gilead: and yet so they sufficed them not.

¹⁵ And the people repented them for Benjamin, because that Jehovah had made a breach in the tribes of Israel.

¹⁰ And the congregation sent thither twelve thousand men of the strongest, and they charged them, saying, Go ye and smite the inhabitants of Jabis Galaad with the edge of the sword.

¹¹ And this shall ye do: every male and every woman that has known the lying with man ye shall devote to destruction, but the virgins ye shall save alive: and they did so.

¹² And they found among the inhabitants of Jabis Galaad four hundred young virgins, who had not known man by lying with him; and they brought them to Selom in the land of Chanaan.

¹³ And all the congregation sent and spoke to the children of Benjamin in the rock Remmon, and invited them to make peace.

¹⁴ And Benjamin returned to the children of Israel at that time, and the children of Israel gave them the women whom they had saved alive of the daughters of Jabis Galaad; and they were content.

¹⁵ And the people relented for Benjamin, because the Lord had made a breach in the tribes of Israel.

¹⁰ So all the Israelis decided to send 12,000 very good soldiers to Jabesh-Gilead to kill the people there with their swords, even to kill the married women and children.

¹¹ They told this to those men: “This is what you must do: You must kill every man in Jabesh-Gilead. You must also kill every married woman. But do not kill the unmarried women.”

¹² So those soldiers went to Jabesh-Gilead and killed all the men, married women, and children. But they found 400 unmarried young women there. So they brought them to their camp at Shiloh, in Canaan, across the river from the Gilead area that belonged to the tribe of Benjamin.

¹³ Then all the Israelis who had gathered sent a message to the 600 men who were at Rimmon Rock. They said that they would like to make peace with them.

¹⁴ So the men came back from Rimmon Rock. The Israelis gave to them the women from Jabesh-Gilead whom they had not killed. But there were only 400 women There were not enough women for those 600 men.

¹⁵ The Israelis still felt sorry for the men of the tribe of Benjamin, because Yahweh had ◄decimated/almost wiped out► one of the Israeli tribes.

¹⁰ And the congregation sent there twelve thousand men of the strongest, and they charged them, saying, Go you° and strike the inhabitants of Jabis Galaad with the edge of the sword.

¹¹ And this shall you° do: every male and every woman that has known the lying with man you° shall devote to destruction, but the virgins you° shall save alive: and they did so.

¹¹ And this is what you are to do: every male, and every woman who has had sex relations with a man, you are to put to the curse, but you are to keep safe the virgins. And they did so.

¹² Now there were among the people of Jabesh-gilead four hundred young virgins who had never had sex relations with a man; these they took to their tents in Shiloh in the land of Canaan.

¹³ And all the meeting sent to the men of Benjamin who were in the rock of Rimmon, offering them peace.

¹⁴ Then Benjamin came back; and they gave them the women whom they had kept from death among the women of Jabesh-gilead: but still there were not enough for them.

¹⁵ And the people were moved with pity for Benjamin, because the Lord had let his wrath loose on the tribes of Israel.

¹⁰ And the assembly sent thither twelve thousand men of the most valiant and commanded them, saying, Go and smite the inhabitants of Jabesh-Gilead with the edge of the sword, and the women and the children.

¹¹ And this is the thing which ye shall do: ye shall utterly destroy every male, and every woman that hath lain with man.

¹² And they found among the inhabitants of Jabesh-Gilead four hundred young women that were virgins, who had known no man by lying with any male, and they brought them to the camp, to Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan.

¹⁴ And Benjamin came again at that time; and they gave them the wives whom they had saved alive of the women of Jabesh-Gilead; but even so they found not enough for them.

¹⁵ And the people repented them for Benjamin, because Jehovah had made a breach in the tribes of Israel.

¹⁰ So they sent ten thousand of the most valiant men, and commanded them, saying: Go and put the inhabitants of Jabes Galaad to the sword, with their wives and their children.

¹¹ And this is what you shall observe: Every male, and all women that have known men, you shall kill, but the virgins you shall save.

¹² And there were found of Jabes Galaad four hundred virgins, that had not known the bed of a man, and they brought them to the camp Silo, into the land of Chanaan.

¹³ And they sent messengers to the children of Benjamin, that were in the rock Remmon, and commanded them to receive them in peace.

¹⁴ And the children of Benjamin came at that time, and wives were given them of the daughters of Jabes Galaad: but they found no others, whom they might give in like manner.

¹⁵ And all Israel was very sorry, and repented for the destroying of one tribe out of Israel.

¹⁰ So the assembly sent twelve thousand of their best warriors there. They gave them orders, saying, “Go and kill the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead with your swords, even the women and children.

¹¹ This is what you have to do: Destroy every male and every woman who has had sex with a man.”

¹² They managed to find among the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead four hundred virgins who had not had sex with a man. They took them to the camp in Shiloh, in the land of Canaan.

¹³ Then the whole assembly sent a message to the Benjamites at Pomegranate Rock to tell them, “Peace!”

¹⁴ So the men of Benjamin went back home, and gave to them the four hundred women from Jabesh-gilead who had been spared as wives. However, there wasn't enough for all of them.

¹⁵ The people felt sorry for the Benjamites because the Lord had made this empty hole among the Israelite tribes.

¹⁰ Therefore the Congregation sent thither twelue thousande men of the most valiant, and commanded them, saying, Goe, and smite the inhabitants of Iabesh Gilead with the edge of the sword, both women, and children.

¹¹ And this is it that ye shall do: ye shall vtterly destroye all the males and all the women that haue lien by men.

¹² And they found among the inhabitants of Iabesh Gilead foure hundreth maides, virgins that had knowne no man by lying with any male: and they brought them vnto the hoste to Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan.

¹³ Then the whole Congregation sent and spake with the children of Beniamin that were in the rocke of Rimmon, and called peaceably vnto them:

¹⁴ And Beniamin came againe at that time, and they gaue them wiues which they had saued aliue of the women of Iabesh Gilead: but they had not so ynough for them.

¹⁵ And the people were sorie for Beniamin, because the Lord had made a breach in the tribes of Israel.

¹⁰ And the congregation sent thither twelve thousand men of the valiantest, and commanded them, saying: 'Go and smite the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead with the edge of the sword, with the women and the little ones.

¹³ And the whole congregation sent and spoke to the children of Benjamin that were on the rock Rimmon, and offered them peace.

¹⁴ And Benjamin returned at that time: and they gave unto them the wives whom they had saved alive out of the women of Yabesh-gil'ad; but they found not sufficient for them in this way.

¹⁵ And the people felt regret for Benjamin; because that the Lord had made a breach in the tribes of Israel.

¹⁰ And the congregation sent thither twelve thousand men of the strongest, and they charged them, saying, Go ye and smite the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead with the edge of the sword.

¹³ The entire assembly sent a message and told the people of Benjamin who were at the rock of Rimmon that they were offering them peace.

¹⁴ The Benjamites returned at that time and they were given the women of Jabesh Gilead, but there were not enough women for all of them.

¹⁵ The people were sorry for what happened to Benjamin, because Yahweh made a division between the tribes of Israel.

¹² And four hundred virgins, that knew not the bed of man, were found of Jabesh of Gilead; and they brought them to the tents in Shiloh, into the land of Canaan.

¹³ And Israel sent messengers to the sons of Benjamin, that were in the stone of Rimmon; and they commanded to them, that they should receive those women in peace.

¹⁴ And the sons of Benjamin came in that time, and the daughters of Jabesh of Gilead were given to them to wives; for they found none other women, which they should give to them in like manner.

¹⁵ And all Israel sorrowed greatly, and did penance on the slaying of one lineage of Israel.

¹⁰ Therefore they sent ten thousand (of the) strongest men, and commanded to them, Go ye, and smite the dwellers of Jabesh of Gilead by the sharpness of sword, as well the wives as the little children of them. (And so they sent twelve thousand of their strongest men, and commanded to them, Go ye, and strike down the people of Jabesh of Gilead with thy sharp swords, and their wives as well as their little children.)

¹¹ And this thing shall be to you, that ye shall keep; slay ye all of male kind, and the women that have known men fleshly; reserve ye the virgins/but keep ye the maidens. (And this word shall be to you, that ye shall obey; kill ye all the males, and the women who have fleshly known men; but reserve ye the virgins or but keep ye the maidens.)

¹² And four hundred virgins, that knew not the bed of (a) man, were found (among the people) of Jabesh of Gilead; and they brought them to the tents in Shiloh, into the land of Canaan.

¹³ And Israel sent messengers to the sons of Benjamin, that were in the stone of Rimmon; and they commanded to them, that they should receive those women in peace. (And then the Israelites sent messengers to the Benjaminites, who were at the Rock of Rimmon; and they agreed to make peace.)

¹⁴ And the sons of Benjamin came (back) in that time, and the daughters of Jabesh of Gilead were given to them to wives; for they found none other women, which they should give to them in like manner. (And then the Benjaminites came back, and the daughters of Jabesh of Gilead were given to them for wives; but they found no other women, whom they could give to them in like manner.)

¹⁵ And all Israel sorrowed greatly, and did penance on the slaying of one lineage of Israel. (And all Israel greatly sorrowed, and had great remorse, or regret, over the killing of one of the tribes of Israel.)

¹⁰ And the company send there twelve thousand men of the sons of valour, and command them, saying, 'Go — and ye have smitten the inhabitants of Jabesh-Gilead by the mouth of the sword, even the women and the infants.

¹¹ And this is the thing which ye do; every male, and every woman knowing the lying of a male, ye devote.'

¹² And they find out of the inhabitants of Jabesh-Gilead four hundred young women, virgins, who have not known man by the lying of a male, and they bring them in unto the camp at Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan.

¹³ And all the company send, and speak, unto the sons of Benjamin who are in the rock Rimmon, and proclaim to them peace;

¹⁴ and Benjamin turneth back at that time, and they give to them the women whom they have kept alive of the women of Jabesh-Gilead, and they have not found for all of them so.

¹⁵ And the people repented concerning Benjamin, for Jehovah had made a breach among the tribes of Israel.
