²⁷ and it turned toward the sunrising to Beth-dagon, and reached to Zebulun, and to the valley of Iphtah-el northward to Beth-emek and Neiel; and it went out to Cabul on the left hand,

²⁸ and Ebron, and Rehob, and Hammon, and Kanah, even unto great Sidon;

²⁹ and the border turned to Ramah, and to the fortified city of Tyre; and the border turned to Hosah; and the goings out thereof were at the sea by the region of Achzib;

³⁰ Ummah also, and Aphek, and Rehob: twenty and two cities with their villages.

³¹ This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Asher according to their families, these cities with their villages.

³² The sixth lot came out for the children of Naphtali, even for the children of Naphtali according to their families.

³³ And their border was from Heleph, from the oak in Zaanannim, and Adami-nekeb, and Jabneel, unto Lakkum; and the goings out thereof were at the Jordan;

³⁴ and the border turned westward to Aznoth-tabor, and went out from thence to Hukkok; and it reached to Zebulun on the south, and reached to Asher on the west, and to Judah at the Jordan toward the sunrising.

³⁵ And the fortified cities were Ziddim, Zer, and Hammath, Rakkath, and Chinnereth,

³⁶ and Adamah, and Ramah, and Hazor,

³⁷ and Kedesh, and Edrei, and En-hazor,

³⁸ and Iron, and Migdal-el, Horem, and Beth-anath, and Beth-shemesh; nineteen cities with their villages.

³⁹ This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Naphtali according to their families, the cities with their villages.

⁴⁰ The seventh lot came out for the tribe of the children of Dan according to their families.

⁴¹ And the border of their inheritance was Zorah, and Eshtaol, and Ir-shemesh,

⁴² and Shaalabbin, and Aijalon, and Ithlah,

⁴³ and Elon, and Timnah, and Ekron,

⁴⁴ and Eltekeh, and Gibbethon, and Baalath,

⁴⁵ and Jehud, and Bene-berak, and Gath-rimmon,

⁴⁶ and Me-jarkon, and Rakkon, with the border over against Joppa.

⁴⁷ And the border of the children of Dan went out beyond them; for the children of Dan went up and fought against Leshem, and took it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and possessed it, and dwelt therein, and called Leshem, Dan, after the name of Dan their father.

⁴⁸ This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Dan according to their families, these cities with their villages.

⁴⁹ So they made an end of distributing the land for inheritance by the borders thereof; and the children of Israel gave an inheritance to Joshua the son of Nun in the midst of them:

⁵⁰ according to the commandment of Jehovah they gave him the city which he asked, even Timnath-serah in the hill-country of Ephraim; and he built the city, and dwelt therein.

²⁷ And it will return westward from Bæthegeneth, and will join Zabulon and Ekgai, and Phthæel northwards, and the borders will come to Saphthæbæthme, and Inael, and will go on to Chobamasomel,

²⁸ and Elbon, and Raab, and Ememaon, and Canthan to great Sidon.

²⁹ And the borders shall turn back to Rama, and to the fountain of Masphassat, and the Tyrians; and the borders shall return to Jasiph, and their going forth shall be the sea, and Apoleb, and Echozob,

³⁰ and Archob, and Aphec, and Raau.

³¹ This is the inheritance of the tribe of the sons of Aser according to their families, the cities and their villages.

³² And the sixth lot came out to Nephthali.

³³ And their borders were Moolam, and Mola, and Besemiin, and Arme, and Naboc, and Jephthamai, as far as Dodam; and their goings out were Jordan.

³⁴ And the coasts will return westward by Athabor, and will go out thence to Jacana, and will border on Zabulon southward, and Aser will join it westward, and Jordan eastward.

³⁵ And the walled cities of the Tyrians, Tyre, and Omathadaketh, and Kenereth,

³⁶ and Armaith, and Arael, and Asor,

³⁷ and Cades, and Assari, and the well of Asor;

³⁸ and Keroe, and Megalaarim, and Bætthame, and Thessamys.

³⁹ This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Nephthali.

⁴⁰ And the seventh lot came out to Dan.

⁴¹ And their borders were Sarath, and Asa, and the cities of Sammaus,

⁴² and Salamin, and Ammon, and Silatha,

⁴³ and Elon, and Thamnatha, and Accaron;

⁴⁴ and Alcatha, and Begethon, and Gebeëlan,

⁴⁵ and Azor, and Banæbacat, and Gethremmon.

⁴⁶ And westward of Hieracon the border was near to Joppa.

⁴⁷ This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Dan, according to their families, these are their cities and their villages:

^47a and the children of Dan did not drive out the Amorite who afflicted them in the mountain; and the Amorite would not suffer them to come down into the valley, but they forcibly took from them the border of their portion.

⁴⁸ And the sons of Dan went and fought against Lachis, and took it, and smote it with the edge of the sword; and they dwelt in it, and called the name of it Lasendan:

^48a and the Amorite continued to dwell in Edom and in Salamin: and the hand of Ephraim prevailed against them, and they became tributaries to them.

⁴⁹ And they proceeded to take possession of the land according to their borders, and the children of Israel gave an inheritance to Joshua the son of Naue among them,

⁵⁰ by the command of God, and they gave him the city which he asked for, Thamnasarach, which is in the mount of Ephraim; and he built the city, and dwelt in it.

⁴⁸ This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Dan according to their families, these cities with their villages.

⁴⁹ When they had made an end of dividing the land for inheritance by their coasts, the children of Israel gave an inheritance to Joshua the son of Nun among them:

²⁸ From there it extended west to Abdon, Rehob, Hammon, and Kanah cities, and continued to Sidon, which is a big city.

²⁹ From there the border extended south toward Ramah and to the big city of Tyre that had strong walls around it. From there the border extended west to Hosah town and ended at the Mediterranean Sea. Within their area were the towns of Aczib,

³⁰ Ummah, Aphek, and Rehob. Altogether there were twenty-two towns and their surrounding villages.

³¹ Those cities and villages were within the land that was allotted to the clans of the tribe of Asher.

³² The sixth/next tribe that was allotted land was the tribe of Naphtali. Each of the clans in that tribe was allotted some of the land.

³³ The border of their land started in the west at the huge oak tree at Zaanannim, near Heleph town. It extended east through Adami-Nekeb city and Jabneel, and then to Lakkum, and ended at the Jordan River.

³⁴ The western boundary extended through Aznoth-Tabor as far as Hukkok city. It extended to the borders of the tribe of Zebulun at the south, to the border of the tribe of Asher on the west, and the Jordan River at the east.

³⁵ Within their land were several cities with strong walls around them. They were Ziddim, Zer, Hammath, Rakkath, Kinnereth,

³⁶ Adamah, Ramah, Hazor,

³⁷ Kedesh, Edrei, En-Hazor,

³⁸ Iron, Migdal-El, Horem, Beth-Anath, and Beth-Shemesh. Altogether there were nineteen cities and the surrounding villages.

³⁹ Those cities and surrounding villages were in the land that was allotted to the clans of the tribe of Naphtali.

⁴⁰ The seventh/last tribe that was allotted land was the tribe of Dan. Each of the clans in that tribe was allotted some of the land.

⁴¹ Their land included the towns of Zorah, Eshtaol, Ir-Shemesh,

⁴² Shaalabbin, Aijalon, Ithlah,

⁴³ Elon, Timnah, Ekron,

⁴⁴ Eltekeh, Gibbethon, Baalath,

⁴⁵ Jehud, Bene-Berak, Gath-Rimmon,

⁴⁶ Me-Jarkon, Rakkon, and the area near Joppa.

⁴⁷ But the people of the tribe of Dan were unable to take control of the land that had been allotted to them. So they went northeast and fought against the people in Leshem city. They defeated and killed all the people who lived there. Then they began to live in Leshem, and changed the name of the city to Dan, the man from whom their tribe descended.

⁴⁸ All of those towns and surrounding villages were in the land that was allotted to the clans in the tribe of Dan.

⁴⁹ After the Israeli leaders divided the land among the tribes, they allotted some land to Joshua.

⁵⁰ They allotted to him Timnath-Serah. Yahweh had said that he could have whatever city he wanted, and that was the city that he chose. It was in the hilly region which was allotted to the tribe of Ephraim. Joshua rebuilt the city and lived there.

⁴⁹ So they finished distributing the land for inheritance by its borders. The children of Israel gave an inheritance to Joshua the son of Nun among them.

²⁷ Then it turned east towards Beth-dagon, reaching the land of Zebulun and the valley of Iphtah-el. From there it headed north to Beth-emek and Neiel, and continued north to Cabul, and on through to

²⁸ Ebron, Rehob, Hammon, Kanah, and on up to Great Sidon.

⁴⁹ After they finished allotting the land and establishing its borders, the Israelites gave Joshua, son of Nun, an allocation among them.

⁴⁷ And the territory of the children of Dan went out beyond these; for the children of Dan went up and fought against Leshem, and captured it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and took possession of it, and dwelt therein, and they called Leshem, Dan, after the name of Dan their father.

⁴⁹ And they made an end of dividing the land for inheritance after its boundaries; and the children of Israel gave an inheritance to Joshua the son of Nun among them;

⁵⁰ By the order of the Lord did they give him the city which he had asked, Timnathserach on the mountain of Ephraim: and he built the city, and dwelt therein.

²⁷ And it will return westward from Beth-dagon, and will join Zebulun and Ekgai, and Iphtahel northward, and the borders will come to Saphthae-beth-emek, and Neiel, and will go on to Chobamasomel,

²⁸ and Ebron, and Rehob, and Hammon, and Kanah to great Sidon.

²⁹ And the borders shall turn back to Ramah, and to the fountain of Masphassat, and the Tyrians; and the borders shall return to Jasiph, and their going forth shall be the sea, and Mahalab, and Achzib,

³⁰ and Archob, and Aphek, and Rehob.

³² And the sixth lot came out to Naphtali.

³³ And their borders were Moolam, and Mola, and Besemiin, and Arme, and Naboc, and Jephthamai, as far as Dodam; and their goings out were Jordan.

³⁴ And the coasts will return westward by Aznoth-tabor, and will go out thence to Jacana, and will border on Zebulun southward, and Asher will join it westward, and Jordan eastward.

³⁵ And the walled cities of the Tyrians, Tyre, and Hammath-rakkath, and Chinnereth,

³⁶ and Armaith, and Arael, and Hazor,

³⁷ and Kedesh, and Assari, and the well of Hazor;

³⁸ and Keroe, and Megalaarim, and Beth-anath, and Beth-shemesh.

³⁹ This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Naphtali.

⁴⁰ And the seventh lot came out to Dan.

⁴¹ And their borders were Zorah, and Asa, and the cities of Shemesh,

⁴² and Shaalabbin, and Ammon, and Ithlah,

⁴⁶ And westward of Jarkon the border was near to Joppa.

^47a and the children of Dan did not drive out the Amorite who afflicted them in the mountain; and the Amorite would not suffer them to come down into the valley, but they forcibly took from them the border of their portion.

⁴⁸ And the sons of Dan went and fought against Lachish, and took it, and smote it with the edge of the sword; and they dwelt in it, and called the name of it Leshem-dan:

^48a and the Amorite continued to dwell in Edom and in Salamin: and the hand of Ephraim prevailed against them, and they became tributaries to them.

⁴⁹ And they proceeded to take possession of the land according to their borders, and the children of Israel gave an inheritance to Joshua the son of Nun among them,

⁵⁰ by the command of God, and they gave him the city which he asked for, Timnath-serah, which is in the mount of Ephraim; and he built the city, and dwelt in it.

²⁷ Then it turned eastward to Beth Dagon and went as far as Zebulun, and then to the Valley of Iphtah El, northward to Beth Emek and Neiel. Then it continued on to Kabul toward the north.

⁴⁷ When the territory of the tribe of Dan was lost to them, Dan attacked Leshem, fought against it, capturing it and striking it with the sword; taking possession of it and settled in it. They renamed Leshem, calling it Dan after their ancestor.

⁴⁹ When they finished the allocation of the land as an inheritance, the people of Israel gave an inheritance among themselves to Joshua son of Nun.

⁴⁹ And when they had fulfilled to part the land by lot to all men by their lineages, the sons of Israel gave possession to Joshua, the son of Nun, in the midst of them,

⁴⁷ And (so) the sons of Dan went up, and fought against Leshem; and they took it, and they smote it by the sharpness of (the) sword, and they had it in possession, and dwelled therein; and they called the name thereof Leshem, Dan, by the name of Dan, their father, (or and they renamed Leshem, Dan, after Dan, the name of their forefather).

⁴⁸ This is the possession of the lineage of Dan, by their families, the cities, and the towns of those.

⁴⁹ And when they had fulfilled to part the land by lot to all men by their lineages, the sons of Israel gave (a) possession to Joshua, the son of Nun, in the midst of them,

⁵⁰ by the commandment of the Lord, the city which he asked (for), Timnathserah, in the hill (country) of Ephraim; and he builded the city, and dwelled therein (or and lived there).

²⁷ and hath turned back, at the sun-rising, to Beth-Dagon, and come against Zebulun, and against the valley of Jiphthah-El toward the north of Beth-Emek, and Neiel, and hath gone out unto Cabul on the left,

²⁸ and Hebron, and Rehob, and Hammon, and Kanah, unto great Zidon;

²⁹ and the border hath turned back to Ramah, and unto the fenced city Tyre; and the border hath turned back to Hosah, and its outgoings are at the sea, from the coast to Achzib,

³⁰ and Ummah, and Aphek, and Rehob; twenty and two cities and their villages.

³¹ This is the inheritance of the tribe of the sons of Asher, for their families, these cities and their villages.

³² For the sons of Naphtali hath the sixth lot gone out, for the sons of Naphtali, for their families;

³³ and their border is from Heleph, from Allon in Zaanannim, and Adami, Nekeb, and Jabneel, unto Lakkum, and its outgoings are at the Jordan;

³⁴ and the border hath turned back westward to Aznoth-Tabor, and gone out thence to Hukkok, and touched against Zebulun on the south, and against Asher it hath touched on the west, and against Judah at the Jordan, at the sun-rising;

³⁵ and the cities of defence are Ziddim, Zer, and Hammath, Rakkath, and Chinnereth,

³⁶ and Adamah, and Ramah, and Hazor,

³⁷ and Kedesh, and Edrei, and En-Hazor,

³⁸ and Iron, and Migdal-El, Horem, and Beth-Anath, and Beth-Shemesh; nineteen cities and their villages.

³⁹ This is the inheritance of the tribe of the sons of Naphtali, for their families, the cities and their villages.

⁴⁰ For the tribe of the sons of Dan, for their families, hath the seventh lot gone out;

⁴¹ and the border of their inheritance is Zorah, and Eshtaol, and Ir-Shemesh,

⁴² and Shalabbin, and Aijalon, and Jethlah,

⁴³ and Elon, and Thimnathah, and Ekron,

⁴⁴ and Eltekeh, and Gibbethon, and Baalath,

⁴⁵ and Jehud, and Bene-Barak, and Gath-Rimmon,

⁴⁶ and Me-Jarkon, and Rakkon, with the border over-against Japho.

⁴⁷ And the border of the sons of Dan goeth out from them, and the sons of Dan go up and fight with Leshem, and capture it, and smite it by the mouth of the sword, and possess it, and dwell in it, and call Leshem, Dan, according to the name of Dan their father.

⁴⁸ This is the inheritance of the tribe of the sons of Dan, for their families, these cities and their villages.

⁴⁹ And they finish to give the land in inheritance, by its borders, and the sons of Israel give an inheritance to Joshua son of Nun in their midst;

⁵⁰ by the command of Jehovah they have given to him the city which he asked, Timnath-Serah, in the hill-country of Ephraim, and he buildeth the city and dwelleth in it.
