¹⁵ And he went up thence against the inhabitants of Debir: now the name of Debir beforetime was Kiriath-sepher.

¹⁶ And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kiriath-sepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife.

¹⁷ And Othniel the son of Kenaz, the brother of Caleb, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife.

¹⁸ And it came to pass, when she came unto him, that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she alighted from off her ass; and Caleb said, What wouldest thou?

¹⁹ And she said, Give me a blessing; for that thou hast set me in the land of the South, give me also springs of water. And he gave her the upper springs and the nether springs.

²⁰ This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Judah according to their families.

²¹ And the uttermost cities of the tribe of the children of Judah toward the border of Edom in the South were Kabzeel, and Eder, and Jagur,

²² and Kinah, and Dimonah, and Adadah,

²³ and Kedesh, and Hazor, and Ithnan,

²⁴ Ziph, and Telem, and Bealoth,

²⁵ and Hazor-hadattah, and Kerioth-hezron (the same is Hazor),

²⁶ Amam, and Shema, and Moladah,

²⁷ and Hazar-gaddah, and Heshmon, and Beth-pelet,

²⁸ and Hazar-shual, and Beer-sheba, and Biziothiah,

³⁶ and Shaaraim, and Adithaim, and Gederah, and Gederothaim; fourteen cities with their villages.

³⁷ Zenan, and Hadashah, and Migdal-gad,

¹⁶ And Chaleb said, Whosoever shall take and destroy the city of Letters, and master it, to him will I give my daughter Ascha to wife.

¹⁷ And Gothoniel the son of Chenez the brother of Chaleb took it; and he gave him Ascha his daughter to wife.

¹⁸ And it came to pass as she went out that she counselled him, saying, I will ask of my father a field; and she cried from off her ass; and Chaleb said to her, What is it?

¹⁹ And she said to him, Give me a blessing, for thou hast set me in the land of Nageb; give me Botthanis: and he gave her Gonæthla the upper, and Gonæthla the lower.

¹⁵ Then Caleb left there and went to fight against the people living in Debir city, which was previously named Kiriath-Sepher.

¹⁶ Caleb said, “If someone attacks the people in Kiriath-Sepher and captures their city, I will give my daughter Acsah to him to be his wife.”

¹⁷ Othniel, the son of Caleb's brother Kenaz, captured the city. So Caleb gave his daughter to him.

¹⁸ When Caleb's daughter married Othniel, she told him to ask her father to give her a field. Then Acsah went to talk with her father Caleb. As she got down from her donkey, Caleb asked her, “Do you want something?”

¹⁹ Acsah replied, “Yes, I want you to do something for me. You have given me some land in the southern part of Canaan, but there is no water there. So please give me some land that has springs.” So Caleb gave her the upper and lower springs near Hebron.

²⁰ Here is a list of the towns in the land that God had promised to give to the tribe of Judah. Each clan was allotted some of the land.

²¹ The tribe of Judah was allotted all these towns in the southern desert area of Canaan, near the border of the Edom region: Kabzeel, Eder, Jagur,

²² Kinah, Dimonah, Adadah,

²³ Kedesh, Hazor, Ithnan,

²⁴ Ziph, Telem, Bealoth,

²⁵ Hazor-Hadattah, Kerioth-Hezron (which is also named Hazor),

¹⁵ And Caleb went up thence to the inhabitants of Debir; and the name of Debir before was the city of Letters.

¹⁶ And Caleb said, Whosoever shall take and destroy the city of Letters, and master it, to him will I give my daughter Achsah to wife.

¹⁷ And Othniel the son of Kenaz the brother of Caleb took it; and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife.

¹⁸ And it came to pass as she went out that she counseled him, saying, I will ask of my father a field; and she cried from off her ass; and Caleb said to her, What is it?

¹⁹ And she said to him, Give me a blessing, for thou hast set me in the land of Negeb; give me Botthanis: and he gave her Gonaethla the upper, and Gonaethla the lower.

¹⁶ Caleb said, “The man who attacks Kiriath Sepher and captures it, to him I will give Aksah my daughter as a wife.”

¹⁷ When Othniel son of Kenaz, Caleb's brother, captured it, Caleb gave him Aksah his daughter as a wife.

¹⁸ Soon after that, Aksah came to Othniel and she urged him to ask her father for a field. When she got off her donkey, Caleb said to her, “What do you want?”

¹⁹ Aksah replied, “Do me a special favor, since you have given me the land of the Negev: Also give me some springs of water.” Then Caleb gave her the upper springs and lower springs.
