² This is the land that yet remaineth: all the regions of the Philistines, and all the Geshurites;

³ from the Shihor, which is before Egypt, even unto the border of Ekron northward, which is reckoned to the Canaanites; the five lords of the Philistines; the Gazites, and the Ashdodites, the Ashkelonites, the Gittites, and the Ekronites; also the Avvim,

⁴ on the south; all the land of the Canaanites, and Mearah that belongeth to the Sidonians, unto Aphek, to the border of the Amorites;

⁵ and the land of the Gebalites, and all Lebanon, toward the sunrising, from Baal-gad under mount Hermon unto the entrance of Hamath;

⁶ all the inhabitants of the hill-country from Lebanon unto Misrephoth-maim, even all the Sidonians; them will I drive out from before the children of Israel: only allot thou it unto Israel for an inheritance, as I have commanded thee.

⁷ Now therefore divide this land for an inheritance unto the nine tribes, and the half-tribe of Manasseh.

⁸ With him the Reubenites and the Gadites received their inheritance, which Moses gave them, beyond the Jordan eastward, even as Moses the servant of Jehovah gave them:

⁹ from Aroer, that is on the edge of the valley of the Arnon, and the city that is in the middle of the valley, and all the plain of Medeba unto Dibon;

¹⁰ and all the cities of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, unto the border of the children of Ammon;

¹¹ and Gilead, and the border of the Geshurites and Maacathites, and all mount Hermon, and all Bashan unto Salecah;

¹² all the kingdom of Og in Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth and in Edrei (the same was left of the remnant of the Rephaim); for these did Moses smite, and drove them out.

¹³ Nevertheless the children of Israel drove not out the Geshurites, nor the Maacathites: but Geshur and Maacath dwell in the midst of Israel unto this day.

¹⁴ Only unto the tribe of Levi he gave no inheritance; the offerings of Jehovah, the God of Israel, made by fire are his inheritance, as he spake unto him.

¹⁵ And Moses gave unto the tribe of the children of Reuben according to their families.

¹⁶ And their border was from Aroer, that is on the edge of the valley of the Arnon, and the city that is in the middle of the valley, and all the plain by Medeba;

¹⁷ Heshbon, and all its cities that are in the plain; Dibon, and Bamoth-baal, and Beth-baal-meon,

¹⁸ and Jahaz, and Kedemoth, and Mephaath,

¹⁹ and Kiriathaim, and Sibmah, and Zereth-shahar in the mount of the valley,

²⁰ and Beth-peor, and the slopes of Pisgah, and Beth-jeshimoth,

²¹ and all the cities of the plain, and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, whom Moses smote with the chiefs of Midian, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, the princes of Sihon, that dwelt in the land.

²² Balaam also the son of Beor, the soothsayer, did the children of Israel slay with the sword among the rest of their slain.

²³ And the border of the children of Reuben was the Jordan, and the border thereof. This was the inheritance of the children of Reuben according to their families, the cities and the villages thereof.

²⁴ And Moses gave unto the tribe of Gad, unto the children of Gad, according to their families.

²⁵ And their border was Jazer, and all the cities of Gilead, and half the land of the children of Ammon, unto Aroer that is before Rabbah;

²⁶ and from Heshbon unto Ramath-mizpeh, and Betonim; and from Mahanaim unto the border of Debir;

²⁷ and in the valley, Beth-haram, and Beth-nimrah, and Succoth, and Zaphon, the rest of the kingdom of Sihon king of Heshbon, the Jordan and the border thereof, unto the uttermost part of the sea of Chinnereth beyond the Jordan eastward.

² And this is the land that is left: the borders of the Phylistines, the Gesirite, and the Chananite,

³ from the wilderness before Egypt, as far as the borders of Accaron on the left of the Chananites the land is reckoned to the five principalities of the Phylistines, to the inhabitant of Gaza, and of Azotus, and of Ascalon, and of Geth, and of Accaron, and to the Evite;

⁴ from Thæman even to all the land of Chanaan before Gaza, and the Sidonians as far as Aphec, as far as the borders of the Amorites.

⁵ And all the land of Galiath of the Phylistines, and all Libanus eastward from Galgal, under the mountain Aermon as far as the entering in of Emath;

⁶ every one that inhabits the hill country from Libanus as far as Masereth Memphomaim. All the Sidonians, I will destroy them from before Israel; but do thou give them by inheritance to Israel, as I charged thee.

⁷ And now divide this land by lot to the nine tribes, and to the half tribe of Manasse.

⁸ From Jordan to the great sea westward thou shalt give it them: the great sea shall be the boundary. But to the two tribes and to the half tribe of Manasse, to Ruben and to Gad Moses gave an inheritance beyond Jordan: Moses the servant of the Lord gave it to them eastward,

⁹ from Aroer, which is on the bank of the brook of Arnon, and the city in the midst of the valley, and all Misor from Mædaban.

¹⁰ All the cities of Seon king of the Amorites, who reigned from Esebon to the coasts of the children of Ammon;

¹¹ and the region of Galaad, and the borders of the Gesirites and the Machatites, the whole mount of Aermon, and all the land of Basan to Acha.

¹² All the kingdom of Og in the region of Basan, who reigned in Astaroth and in Edrain: he was left of the giants; and Moses smote him, and destroyed him.

¹³ But the children of Israel destroyed not the Gesirite and the Machatite and the Chananite; and the king of the Gesiri and the Machatite dwelt among the children of Israel until this day.

¹⁴ Only no inheritance was given to the tribe of Levi: the Lord God of Israel, he is their inheritance, as the Lord said to them; and this is the division which Moses made to the children of Israel in Araboth Moab, on the other side of Jordan, by Jericho.

¹⁵ And Moses gave the land to the tribe of Ruben according to their families.

¹⁶ And their borders were from Aroer, which is opposite the brook of Arnon, and theirs is the city that is in the valley of Arnon; and all Misor,

¹⁷ to Esebon, and all the cities in Misor, and Dæbon, and Bæmon-Baal, and the house of Meelboth;

¹⁸ and Basan, and Bakedmoth, and Mæphaad,

¹⁹ and Kariathaim, and Sebama, and Serada, and Sion in mount Enab;

²⁰ and Bæthphogor, and Asedoth Phasga, and Bætthasinoth,

²¹ and all the cities of Misor, and all the kingdom of Seon king of the Amorites, whom Moses smote, even him and the princes of Madian, and Evi, and Roboc, and Sur, and Ur, and Robe prince of the spoils of Sion, and the inhabitants of Sion.

²² And Balaam the son of Bæor the prophet they slew in the battle.

²³ And the borders of Ruben were—even Jordan was the boundary; this is the inheritance of the children of Ruben according to their families, these were their cities and their villages.

²⁴ And Moses gave inheritance to the sons of Gad according to their families.

²⁵ And their borders were Jazer, all the cities of Galaad, and half the land of the children of Ammon to Araba, which is before Arad.

²⁶ And from Esebon to Araboth by Massepha, and Botanim, and Maan to the borders of Dæbon,

²⁷ and Enadom, and Othargai, and Bænthanabra, and Soccotha, and Saphan, and the rest of the kingdom of Seon king of Esebon: and Jordan shall be the boundary as far as part of the sea of Chenereth beyond Jordan eastward.

² Here is a list of the land that remains: The Geshur region and all the area where the Philistia people-group live;

³ the area where the Canaan people-group live, from the Shihor River in the south at the eastern border of Egypt, to Ekron city in the north; the rulers of the five cities of Gaza, Ashdod, Ashkelon, Gath, and Ekron; the area where the Avva people-group live,

⁴ which is south of the area where the Canaan people-group live;

⁵ the area where the Gebal people-group live; and all the Lebanon area east of Baal-Gad city at the bottom of Hermon Mountain, as far as Lebo-Hamath.

⁶ All the people of the Sidon people-group live in the hilly area from Lebanon to Misrephoth-Maim, but I will force them to leave that area before you Israelis arrive there. Be sure to give that area to the Israeli people when you divide the land among them, like I told you to do.

⁷ Divide all that land among the nine Israeli tribes and half of the tribe of Manasseh, the tribes that do not have land on the east side of the Jordan River.”

⁸ Half of the tribe of Manasseh and the tribes of Reuben and Gad had already been told what land they would receive, because Moses, the man who served Yahweh well, had already assigned to them the land on the east side of the Jordan River.

⁹ Their land extended from Aroer town at the Arnon River gorge to the town in the middle of the gorge. It included the whole plain from Medeba town south to Dibon town.

¹⁰ All the towns ruled by King Sihon were in that area. The land extended to where the Ammon people-group lived.

¹¹ The Gilead area was also there, and the regions where the people of the Geshur and Maacah people-groups lived, and all of Hermon Mountain and all the Bashan region south to Salecah.

¹² All the land ruled by Og, the king who ruled the Bashan region, was in that land. Og was one of the last descendants of Repha; previously he had ruled in Ashtaroth and Edrei cities, but the armies of Moses had defeated their armies and had taken their land from them.

¹³ But the Israelis did not force the people of the Geshur and Maacah people-groups to leave their land, so they still live among the Israeli people.

¹⁴ The tribe of Levi was the only tribe that did not get any land. Instead, just like Yahweh promised, they continued to receive food from the sacrifices that were given to Yahweh, the God whom the Israelis worship, the sacrifices that were burned on the sacred altar.

¹⁵ Moses had allotted land to each clan in the tribe of Reuben.

¹⁶ Their land extended from Aroer town near the Arnon River gorge to Medeba town. That included all of the plain that is near Medeba and the town in the middle of the gorge.

¹⁷ It also included Heshbon city and all the nearby towns on the plain—Dibon, Bamioth-Baal, Beth-Baal-Meon,

¹⁸ Jahaz, Kedemoth, Mephaath,

¹⁹ Kiriathaim, Sibmah, Zereth-Shahar on the hill overlooking the valley,

²⁰ Beth-Peor, the hills in the Pisgah area, and Beth-Jeshimoth.

²¹ That land included all the towns on the plain and all the area that King Sihon had previously ruled. But the army of Moses had defeated him and the rulers of the Midian people-group: Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba. The armies of all those rulers fought battles along with the army of Sihon, and they lived in that country.

²² The Israeli army killed many people during those battles, including Balaam, the prophet from Beor, who tried to use magic to predict/tell what would happen in the future.

²³ The western boundary of the land that was allotted to the clans of the tribe of Reuben was the Jordan River.

²⁴ Moses also allotted some land to each clan in the tribe of Gad.

²⁵ Their land included the Jazer area and all the towns of the Gilead area; half of the land where the Ammon people-group lived, as far as Aroer town which is near Rabbah town;

²⁶ the area from Heshbon city to Ramath-Mizpah and Betonim towns; the area from Mahanaim town to the Debir region;

²⁷ Beth-Haram, Beth-Nimrah, Succoth, and Zaphon cities in the valley; and the other area that King Sihon had ruled on the east side of the Jordan River. That area extended north to the southern end of Galilee Lake.

² And this is the land that is left: the borders of the Phylistines, the Gesirite, and the Chananite,

³ from the wilderness before Egypt, as far as the borders of Accaron on the left of the Chananites the land is reckoned to the five principalities of the Phylistines, to the inhabitant of Gaza, and of Azotus, and of Ascalon, and of Geth, and of Accaron, and to the Evite;

⁴ from Thaeman even to all the land of Chanaan before Gaza, and the Sidonians as far as Aphec, as far as the borders of the Amorites.

⁵ And all the land of Galiath of the Phylistines, and all Libanus eastward from Galgal, under the mountain Aermon as far as the entering in of Emath;

⁶ every one that inhabits the hill country from Libanus as far as Masereth Memphomaim. All the Sidonians, I will destroy them from before Israel; but do you give them by inheritance to Israel, as I charged you.

⁷ And now divide this land by lot to the nine tribes, and to the half tribe of Manasse.

⁸ From Jordan to the great sea westward you shall give it them: the great sea shall be the boundary. But to the two tribes and to the half tribe of Manasse, to Ruben and to Gad Moses gave an inheritance beyond Jordan: Moses the servant of the Lord gave it to them eastward,

⁹ from Aroer, which is on the bank of the brook of Arnon, and the city in the midst of the valley, and all Misor from Maedaban.

¹⁰ All the cities of Seon king of the Amorites, who reigned from Esebon to the coasts of the children of Ammon;

¹¹ and the region of Galaad, and the borders of the Gesirites and the Machatites, the whole mount of Aermon, and all the land of Basan to Acha.

¹² All the kingdom of Og in the region of Basan, who reigned in Astaroth and in Edrain: he was left of the giants; and Moses struck him, and destroyed him.

¹³ But the children of Israel destroyed not the Gesirite and the Machatite and the Chananite; and the king of the Gesiri and the Machatite lived amongst the children of Israel until this day.

¹⁴ Only no inheritance was given to the tribe of Levi: the Lord God of Israel, he is their inheritance, as the Lord said to them; and this is the division which Moses made to the children of Israel in Araboth Moab, on the other side of Jordan, by Jericho.

¹⁵ And Moses gave the land to the tribe of Ruben according to their families.

⁵ And the land of the Gebalites, and all Lebanon, looking east, from Baal-gad under Mount Hermon as far as Hamath:

⁶ All the people of the hill-country from Lebanon to Misrephoth-maim, all the Zidonians; them will I send out from before the children of Israel: only make division of it to Israel for a heritage, as I have given you orders to do.

⁷ So now make division of this land for a heritage to the nine tribes, and the half-tribe of Manasseh.

⁸ With him the Reubenites and the Gadites have been given their heritage, which Moses gave them, on the east side of Jordan, as Moses, the servant of the Lord, gave them;

⁹ From Aroer, on the edge of the valley of the Arnon, and the town in the middle of the valley, and all the table-land from Medeba to Dibon;

¹⁰ And all the towns of Sihon, king of the Amorites, who was ruling in Heshbon, to the limits of the children of Ammon;

¹¹ And Gilead, and the land of the Geshurites and the Maacathites, and all Mount Hermon, and all Bashan to Salecah;

¹² All the kingdom of Og in Bashan, who was ruling in Ashtaroth and in Edrei (he was one of the last of the Rephaim); these did Moses overcome, driving them out of their country.

¹³ However, the people of Israel did not send out the Geshurites, or the Maacathites: but Geshur and Maacath are living among Israel to this day.

¹⁹ And Kiriathaim, and Sibmah, and Zereth-shahar in the mountain of the valley;

²⁰ And Beth-peor, and the slopes of Pisgah, and Beth-jeshimoth;

²¹ And all the towns of the table-land, and all the kingdom of Sihon, king of the Amorites, who was ruling in Heshbon, whom Moses overcame, together with the chiefs of Midian, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, the chiefs of Sihon, who were living in the land.

²² And Balaam, the son of Beor, the prophet, the children of Israel put to death with the sword.

²³ And the limit of the children of Reuben was the edge of Jordan. This was the heritage of the children of Reuben by their families, with its towns and its unwalled places.

²⁴ And Moses gave their heritage to the tribe of Gad by their families.

²⁵ And their limit was Jazer, and all the towns of Gilead, and half the land of the children of Ammon, to Aroer before Rabbah;

²⁶ And from Heshbon to Ramath-mizpeh, and Betonim; and from Mahanaim to the edge of Debir;

²⁷ And in the valley, Beth-haram, and Beth-nimrah, and Succoth, and Zaphon, the rest of the kingdom of Sihon, king of Heshbon, having Jordan for its limit, to the end of the sea of Chinnereth on the east side of Jordan.

³ from the Shihor, which floweth before Egypt, as far as the borders of Ekron northward, and which is counted to the Canaanite; five lordships of the Philistines: of Gazah, and of Ashdod, of Eshkalon, of Gath, and of Ekron; also the Avvites;

⁵ and the land of the Giblites, and all Lebanon, toward the sun-rising, from Baal-Gad at the foot of mount Hermon to the entrance into Hamath;

⁶ all the inhabitants of the hill-country from Lebanon to Misrephoth-maim, all the Sidonians; I will dispossess them from before the children of Israel. Only, partition it by lot to Israel for an inheritance, as I have commanded thee.

¹⁰ and all the cities of Sihon the king of the Amorites, who reigned at Heshbon, to the border of the children of Ammon;

¹¹ and Gilead, and the border of the Geshurites and Maachathites, and all mount Hermon, and the whole of Bashan to Salcah;

¹² all the kingdom of Og in Bashan, who reigned at Ashtaroth and at Edrei, who remained of the residue of the giants; and Moses smote them and dispossessed them.

¹³ But the children of Israel did not dispossess the Geshurites nor the Maachathites; but the Geshurites and the Maachathites dwell among the Israelites to this day.

¹⁴ Only to the tribe of Levi he gave no inheritance: the offerings by fire of Jehovah the God of Israel are their inheritance, as he said to them.

¹⁹ and Kirjathaim, and Sibmah, and Zereth-shahar in the mountain of the vale,

²⁰ and Beth-Peor, and the slopes of Pisgah, and Beth-jeshimoth;

²¹ all the cities of the plateau, and the whole kingdom of Sihon the king of the Amorites, who reigned at Heshbon, whom Moses smote, him and the princes of Midian, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, the chiefs of Sihon dwelling in the land.

²² And Balaam the son of Beor, the diviner, did the children of Israel kill with the sword among them that were slain by them.

²³ And the border of the children of Reuben was the Jordan, and its border. This is the inheritance of the children of Reuben according to their families, the cities and their hamlets.

²⁴ And Moses gave a portion to the tribe of Gad, to the children of Gad according to their families.

²⁵ And their territory was Jaazer, and all the cities of Gilead, and half the land of the children of Ammon, to Aroer which is before Rabbah;

²⁶ and from Heshbon to Ramath-Mizpeh, and Betonim; and from Mahanaim to the border of Debir;

²⁷ and in the valley, Beth-haram, and Beth-Nimrah, and Succoth, and Zaphon, the rest of the kingdom of Sihon the king of Heshbon, the Jordan and its border, as far as the edge of the sea of Chinnereth beyond the Jordan eastward.

² To wit, all Galilee, Philistia, and all Gessuri.

³ From the troubled river, that watereth Egypt, unto the borders of Accaron northward: the land of Chanaan, which is divided among the lords of the Philistines, the Gazites, the Azotians, the Ascalonites, the Gethites, and the Accronites.

⁴ And on the south side are the Hevites, all the land of Chanaan, and Maara of the Sidonians as far as Apheca, and the borders of the Amorrhite,

⁵ And his confines. The country also of Libanus towards the east from Baalgad under mount Hermon to the entering into Emath.

⁶ Of all that dwell in the mountains from Libanus, to the waters of Maserephoth, and all the Sidonians. I am he that will cut them off from before the face of the children of Israel. So let their land come in as a part of the inheritance of Israel, as I have commanded thee.

⁷ And now divide the land in possession to the nine tribes, and to the half tribe of Manasses,

⁸ With whom Ruben and Gad have possessed the land, which Moses the servant of the Lord delivered to them beyond the river Jordan, on the east side.

⁹ From Aroer, which is upon the bank of the torrent Amen, and in the midst of the valley and all the plains of Medaba, as far as Dibon:

¹⁰ And all the cities of Sehon, king of the Amorrhites, who reigned in Hesebon, unto the borders of the children of Ammon.

¹¹ And Galaad, and the borders of Gessuri and Machati, and all mount Hermon, and all Basan as far as Salecha,

¹² All the kingdom of Og in Basan, who reigned in Astaroth and Edrai, he was of the remains of the Raphaims: and Moses overthrew and destroyed them.

¹³ And the children of Israel would not destroy Gessuri and Machati: and they have dwelt in the midst of Israel, until this present day.

¹⁴ But to the tribe of Levi he gave no possession: but the sacrifices and victims of the Lord God of Israel, are his inheritance, as he spoke to him.

¹⁵ And Moses gave a possession to the children of Ruben according to their kindreds.

¹⁶ And their border was from Aroer, which is on the bank of the torrent Arnon, and in the midst of the valley of the same torrent: all the plain, that leadeth to Medaba,

¹⁷ And Hesebon, and all their villages, which are in the plains. Dibon also, and Bamothbaal, and the town of Baalmaon,

¹⁸ And Jassa, and Cidimoth, and Mephaath,

¹⁹ And Cariathaim, and Sabama, and Sarathasar in the mountain of the valley.

²⁰ Bethphogor and Asedoth, Phasga and Bethiesimoth,

²¹ And all the cities of the plain, and all the kingdoms of Sehon king of the Amorrhites, that reigned in Hesebon, whom Moses slew with the princes of Madian: Hevi, and Recem, and Sur and Hur, and Rebe, dukes of Sehon inhabitants of the land.

²² Balaam also the son of Beer the soothsayer, the children of Israel slew with the sword among the rest that were slain.

²³ And the river Jordan was the herder of the children of Ruben. This is the possession of the Rubenites, by their kindreds, of cities and villages.

²⁴ And Moses gave to the tribe of Gad and to his children by their kindreds a possession, of which this is the division.

²⁵ The border of Jaser, and all the cities of Galaad, and half the land of the children of Ammon: as far as Aroer which is over against Rabba:

²⁶ And from Hesebon unto Ramoth, Masphe and Betonim: and from Manaim unto the borders of Dabir.

²⁷ And in the valley Betharan and Bethnemra, and Socoth, and Saphon the other part of the kingdom of Sehon king of Hesebon: the limit of this also is the Jordan, as far as the uttermost part of the sea of Cenereth beyond the Jordan on the east side.

² This is the remaining land: the territory of all the Philistines and all the Geshurites,

³ from the Shihur River on the border with Egypt north to the border of Ekron—all of which is counted as Canaanite but comes under the five Philistine lords of Gaza, Ashdod, Ashkelon, Gath, and Ekron. In addition there's the land of the Avvites

⁴ in the south, all the land of the Canaanites, and Mearah that belongs to the Sidonians, all the way to Aphek on the border with the Amorites,

⁵ as well as the land of the Gebalites and the Lebanon area from the town of Baalgad to the slopes of Mount Hermon to Lebo-hamath,

⁶ and the those who live in the hill country from Lebanon to Misrephoth Maim, including all the land of the Sidonians. I myself will drive them out ahead of the Israelites. Just allocate the land to Israel for them to own, as I have commanded you.

⁷ So divide this land among the nine tribes and the half-tribe of Manasseh for them to own.”

⁸ The other half of the tribe of Manasseh, and the tribes of Reuben and Gad, had already received their land grant on the east side of the Jordan, as allotted to them by Moses, the servant of the Lord.

⁹ It stretched from Aroer on the edge of the Arnon valley, from the town in the middle of the valley, and all the plateau of Medeba, up to Dibon;

¹⁰ and all the towns that belonged to Sihon, king of the Amorites, who ruled in Heshbon, up to the border with the Ammonites.

¹¹ In addition it included Gilead, the land of the Geshurites and Maacathites, all of Mount Hermon, and all of Bashan as far as Salecah,

¹² as well as all the land of the kingdom of Og of Bashan, who had ruled in Ashtaroth and Edrei. He was one of the last of the Rephaites. Moses had defeated them and driven them out.

¹³ But the Israelites had not driven out the Geshurites or the Maacathites, who still live among them to this very day.

¹⁴ Moses did not allocate any land for the Levites to own. Instead they were allotted the offerings made by fire to the Lord, the God of Israel, as the Lord had promised them.

¹⁵ This was the land that Moses allotted to the tribe of Reuben, by families:

¹⁶ Their territory stretched from Aroer on the edge of the Arnon valley, from the town in the middle of the valley, and all the plateau of Medeba;

¹⁷ Heshbon and all associated towns on the plateau—Dibon, Bamoth Baal, Beth Baal Meon,

¹⁸ Jahaz, Kedemoth, Mephaath,

¹⁹ Kiriathaim, Sibmah, Zereth-shahar, on a hill in the valley,

²⁰ Beth-peor, the slopes of Pisgah, Beth-jeshimoth—

²¹ all the towns of the plateau and all the kingdom of Sihon, the Amorite king, who ruled in Heshbon. He was defeated by Moses, as well as the Midianite leaders Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba, princes who lived in the kingdom and who were allied to Sihon.

²² At the same time the Israelites killed Balaam, son of Beor, the fortune-teller, along with the others who were slaughtered.

²³ The Jordan was the boundary for the tribe of Reuben. This was the land, the towns and the villages, allotted to the tribe of Reuben, by families.

²⁴ This was the land that Moses allotted to the tribe of Gad, by families:

²⁵ Their territory was Jazer, all the towns of Gilead, and half of the land of the Ammonites up to Aroer, near Rabbah;

²⁶ stretching from Heshbon to Ramath-mizpeh and Betonim, and from Mahanaim to the Debir region.

²⁷ In the Jordan valley lay Beth-haram, Beth-nimrah, Succoth, and Zaphon, the rest of the kingdom of Sihon, king of Heshbon. The boundary ran along the Jordan up to the bottom end of the sea of Kinnereth and then ran east.

² This is the land that remaineth, all the regions of the Philistims, and all Geshuri,

³ From Nilus which is in Egypt, euen vnto the borders of Ekron Northward: this is counted of the Canaanites, euen fiue Lordships of the Philistims, the Azzithites, and the Ashdodites, the Eshkelonites, the Gittites, and the Ekronites, and the Auites:

⁴ From the South, all the land of the Canaanites, and the caue that is beside the Sidonians, vnto Aphek, and to the borders of the Amorites:

⁵ And the land of the Giblites, and all Lebanon, toward the sunne rising from Bahal-gad vnder mount Hermon, vntil one come to Hamath.

⁶ All the inhabitants of the mountaines from Lebanon vnto Misrephothmaim, and all the Sidonians, I wil cast them out from before the children of Israel: only deuide thou it by lot vnto the Israelites, to inherite, as I haue commanded thee.

⁷ Nowe therefore deuide this lande to inherite, vnto the nine tribes, and to the halfe tribe of Manasseh.

⁸ For with halfe therof the Reubenites and the Gadites haue receiued their inheritance, which Moses gaue them beyond Iorden Eastward, euen as Moses the seruant of the Lord had giuen them,

¹⁴ Onely vnto the tribe of Leui he gaue none inheritance, but the sacrifices of the Lord God of Israel are his inheritance, as he said vnto him.

¹⁵ Moses then gaue vnto the tribe of the children of Reuben inheritance, according to their families.

²² And Balaam the sonne of Beor the soothsayer did the children of Israel slay with the sword, among them that were slaine.

³ From the Shichor, which runneth before Egypt, even unto the boundary of 'Ekron northward, is counted to the Canaanites; the five lords of the Philistines; the Gazzathites, and the Ashdodites, the Eshkelonites, the Gittites, and the 'Ekronites; also the 'Avvim;

⁴ On the south, all the land of the Canaanites, and Me'arah that belongeth to the Zidonians, up to Aphek, up to the border of the Emorites;

⁵ And the land of the Giblites, and all Lebanon, toward the rising of the sun, from Ba'al-gad under mount Chermon up to the entrance of Chamath.

¹² All the kingdom of 'Og in Bashan, who reigned in 'Ashtaroth and in Edre'i; who had been left of the remnant of the Rephaim; and Moses smote them, and cast them out.

¹³ Nevertheless the children of Israel expelled not the Geshurites and the Ma'achathites; but the Geshurites and the Ma'achathites continued to dwell in the midst of the Israelites until this day.

¹⁴ Only unto the tribe of Levi he gave no inheritance: the fire-offerings of the Lord, the God of Israel, are their inheritance, as he hath spoken unto them.

¹⁵ And Moses gave unto the tribe of the children of Reuben according to their families;

¹⁶ And their territory was from 'Aro'er, that is on the bank of the brook Arnon, and the city that is in the midst of the brook, and all the plain by Medeba;

¹⁷ Cheshbon, and all its cities that are in the plain; Dibon, and Bamoth-ba'al, and Beth-ba'al-me'on,

¹⁸ And Yahzah, and Kedemoth, and Mepha'ath,

¹⁹ And Kiryathayim, and Sibmah, and Zereth-hashachar on the mount of the valley,

²⁰ And Beth-pe'or, and the declivities of Pisgah, and Beth-hayeshimoth,

²¹ And all the cities of the plain, and all the kingdom of Sichon the king of the Emorites, who reigned in Cheshbon, whom Moses smote with the princes of Midian, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Chur, and Reba', the dukes of Sichon, the dwellers of the country.

²² And Bil'am the son of Be'or, the soothsayer, did the children of Israel slay with the sword among their slain.

²³ And the boundary of the children of Reuben was the Jordan, and its bordering territory. This was the inheritance of the children of Reuben after their families, the cities and their villages.

²⁴ And Moses gave unto the tribe of Gad, unto the children of Gad according to their families;

²⁵ And their territory was Ya'zer, and all the cities of Gil'ad, and half the land of the children of 'Ammon, up to 'Aro'er that is before Rabbah;

²⁶ And from Cheshbon unto Ramath-mizpeh, and Betonim; and from Machanayim up to the border of Debir;

²⁷ And in the valley, Beth-haram, and Beth-nimrah, and Succoth, and Zaphon, the rest of the kingdom of Sichon the king of Cheshbon, the Jordan and its bordering territory, up to the edge of the sea of Kinnereth on the other side of the Jordan eastward.

² And this is the land that is left: the borders of the Philistines, the Geshurite, and the Canaanite,

³ from the wilderness before Egypt, as far as the borders of Ekron on the left of the Canaanites the land is reckoned to the five principalities of the Philistines, to the inhabitant of Gaza, and of Ashdod, and of Ashkelon, and of Gath, and of Ekron, and to the Avvim;

⁴ from Thaeman even to all the land of Canaan before Gaza, and the Sidonians as far as Aphek, as far as the borders of the Amorites.

⁵ And all the land of Galiath of the Philistines, and all Lebanon eastward from Baal-gad, under the mountain Hermon as far as the entering in of Hamath;

⁶ everyone that inhabits the hill country from Lebanon as far as Misrephoth-maim. All the Sidonians, I will destroy them from before Israel; but do thou give them by inheritance to Israel, as I charged thee.

⁷ And now divide this land by lot to the nine tribes, and to the half tribe of Manasseh.

⁸ From Jordan to the great sea westward thou shalt give it them: the great sea shall be the boundary. But to the two tribes and to the half tribe of Manasseh, to Reuben and to Gad Moses gave an inheritance beyond Jordan: Moses the servant of the Lord gave it to them eastward,

⁹ from Aroer, which is on the bank of the brook of Arnon, and the city in the midst of the valley, and all Misor from Medeba.

¹⁰ All the cities of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned from Heshbon to the coasts of the children of Ammon;

¹¹ and the region of Gilead, and the borders of the Geshurites and the Maacathites, the whole mount of Hermon, and all the land of Bashan to Salecah.

¹² All the kingdom of Og in the region of Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth and in Edrei: he was left of the giants; and Moses smote him, and destroyed him.

¹³ But the children of Israel destroyed not the Geshurite and the Maacathite and the Canaanite; and the king of the Geshurite and the Maacathite dwelt among the children of Israel until this day.

¹⁴ Only no inheritance was given to the tribe of Levi: the Lord God of Israel, he is their inheritance, as the Lord said to them; and this is the division which Moses made to the children of Israel in Araboth Moab, on the other side of Jordan, by Jericho.

¹⁵ And Moses gave the land to the tribe of Reuben according to their families.

¹⁶ And their borders were from Aroer, which is opposite the brook of Arnon, and theirs is the city that is in the Valley of Arnon; and all Misor,

¹⁷ to Heshbon, and all the cities in Misor, and Dibon, and Bamoth-baal, and the house of Baal-meon;

¹⁸ and Bashan, and Kedemoth, and Mephaath,

¹⁹ and Kiriathaim, and Sibmah, and Zereth, and Sion in Mount Enab;

²⁰ and Beth-peor, and Asedoth Pisgah, and Beth-jeshimoth,

²¹ and all the cities of Misor, and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, whom Moses smote, even him and the princes of Midian, and Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba prince of the spoils of Sihon, and the inhabitants of Sihon.

²² And Balaam the son of Beor the prophet they slew in the battle.

²³ And the borders of Reuben were—even Jordan was the boundary; this is the inheritance of the children of Reuben according to their families, these were their cities and their villages.

²⁴ And Moses gave inheritance to the sons of Gad according to their families.

²⁵ And their borders were Jazer, all the cities of Gilead, and half the land of the children of Ammon to Aroer, which is before Arad.

²⁶ And from Heshbon to Araboth by Mizpeh, and Betonim, and Mahanaim to the borders of Debir,

²⁷ and Enadom, and Beth-haram, and Beth-nimrah, and Succoth, and Zaphon, and the rest of the kingdom of Sihon king of Heshbon: and Jordan shall be the boundary as far as part of the Sea of Chinnereth beyond Jordan eastward.

² This is the land that still remains: All the regions of the Philistines, and all those of the Geshurites,

³ from Shihor, which is east of Egypt, and northward to the border of Ekron, which is considered property of the Canaanites; the five rulers of the Philistines, those of Gaza, Ashdod, Ashkelon, Gath, and Ekron—the territory of the Avvites.

⁴ In the south (the territory of the Avvites); all the lands of the Canaanites, from Arah that belongs to the Sidonians, as far as Aphek which is on the border of the Amorites;

⁵ the land of the Gebalites, all of Lebanon toward the east, from Baal Gad below Mount Hermon to Lebo Hamath.

⁶ Also, all the inhabitants of the hill country from Lebanon as far as Misrephoth Maim, including all the people of Sidon. I will drive them out before the army of Israel. Be sure to assign the land to Israel as an inheritance, as I commanded you.

⁷ Divide this land as an inheritance to the nine tribes and to the half tribe of Manasseh.”

⁸ With the other half of the tribe of Manasseh, the Reubenites and the Gadites had received their inheritance that Moses gave them on the east side of the Jordan,

⁹ from Aroer, which is on the edge of the Arnon river gorge (including the city that is in the middle of the gorge), to all the plateau of Medeba as far as Dibon;

¹⁰ all the cities of Sihon, king of the Amorites, who ruled in Heshbon, to the border of the Ammonites;

¹¹ Gilead, and the region of the Geshurites and Maacathites, all of Mount Hermon, all Bashan to Salekah;

¹² all the kingdom of Og in Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth and Edrei—these are what was left of the remnant of the Rephaim—Moses struck them and drove them out.

¹³ But the people of Israel did not drive out the Geshurites or the Maacathites. Instead, Geshur and Maacath live among Israel to this day.

¹⁴ To the tribe of Levi alone Moses gave no inheritance. The offerings of Yahweh, the God of Israel, made by fire, are their inheritance, as God said to Moses.

¹⁵ Moses gave an inheritance to the tribe of Reuben, clan by clan.

¹⁷ Reuben also received Heshbon and all its cities that are in the plateau, Dibon, and Bamoth Baal, and Beth Baal Meon,

¹⁸ and Jahaz, and Kedemoth, and Mephaath,

¹⁹ and Kiriathaim, and Sibmah, and Zereth Shahar on the hill of the valley.

²⁰ Reuben also received Beth Peor, the slopes of Pisgah, Beth Jeshimoth,

²¹ all the cities of the plateau, and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, who had reigned in Heshbon, whom Moses had defeated together with the leaders of Midian, Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur and Reba, the princes of Sihon, who had lived in the land.

²² The people of Israel also killed with the sword Balaam son of Beor, who practiced divination, among the rest of those they had killed.

²³ The border of the tribe of Reuben is the Jordan River; this is their boundary. This was the inheritance of the tribe of Reuben, given to each of their clans, with their cities and villages.

²⁴ This is what Moses gave to the tribe of Gad, clan by clan:

⁶ all the inhabitants of the hill country from Lebanon to Misrephoth Maim, even all the Sidonians. I will drive them out from before the children of Israel. Just allocate it to Israel for an inheritance, as I have commanded you.

⁴ all the land of Canaan, and Mearah of Sidonians, till to Aphek, and to the terms of Amorites,

⁵ and the coasts of him; and the country of Lebanon against the east, from Baalgad, under the hill of Hermon, till thou enterest into Hamath,

⁶ of all men that dwelled in the hill, from the Lebanon till to the waters of Misrephothmaim, and all men of Sidon; I am, that shall do away them from the face of the sons of Israel; therefore come it into the part of heritage of Israel, as I commanded to thee.

¹¹ and of Gilead, and to the terms of Geshurites, and of Maachathites, and all the hill of Hermon, and all Bashan, till to Salcah;

¹² all the realm of Og in Bashan, that reigned in Ashtaroth, and in Edrei; he was of the relics of Rephaim, that is, of giants; and Moses smote them, and did away them.

¹³ And the sons of Israel would not destroy Geshurites, and Maachathites; and they dwelled in the midst of Israel, till into the present day.

¹⁴ Soothly he gave not possession to the lineage of Levi, but the sacrifices, and the slain sacrifices of the Lord God of Israel; that is his heritage, as God spake to him.

¹⁵ Therefore Moses gave possession to the lineage of the sons of Reuben, by their kindreds;

¹⁶ and their term was from Aroer, that is in the brink of the strand or stream of Arnon, and in the middle valley of the same strand or stream, all the plain also that leadeth to Medeba,

²³ And the term of the sons of Reuben was made the flood of Jordan; this is the possession of men of Reuben, by their kindreds, of cities and towns.

²⁴ And Moses gave a possession to the lineage of Gad, and to his sons, by their kindreds, of the which possession this is the parting;

⁸ with which lineage(s) Reuben, and Gad, wielded the land, which land Moses, the servant of the Lord, gave to them beyond the flowings of (the) Jordan, at the east coast; (For the tribes of Reuben, and Gad, and the eastern half of the tribe of Manasseh, took the land, which land Moses, the servant of the Lord, gave them beyond the flowings of the Jordan River, on the east side;)

⁹ from Aroer, that is set in the brink of the strand of Arnon, (or from Aroer, that is set on the banks of the Arnon River), in the midst of the valley, and all the field places of Medeba, unto Dibon,

¹⁰ and all the cities of Sihon, king of Amorites, that reigned in Heshbon, till to the terms of the sons of Ammon, (and all the cities of Sihon, the king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, unto the border of the Ammonites,)

¹¹ and of Gilead, and to the terms of Geshurites, and of Maachathites, and all the hill of Hermon, and all Bashan, till to Salcah; (and also Gilead, and the lands of the Geshurites, and of the Maachathites, and all of Mount Herman, and all of Bashan, unto Salcah;)

¹² all the realm of Og in Bashan, that reigned in Ashtaroth, and in Edrei; he was of the relics of Rephaim, that is, of giants; and Moses smote them, and did away them. (and all the kingdom of Og in Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth, and in Edrei; he was of the remnant of the Rephaim, that is, of the giants; and Moses struck them down, and did them away.)

¹³ And the sons of Israel would not destroy Geshurites, and Maachathites; and they dwelled in the midst of Israel, till into the present day. (But the Israelites did not destroy the Geshurites, or the Maachathites; and they live in the midst of the Israelites, unto this present day.)

¹⁴ Soothly he gave not (any) possession to the lineage of Levi, but the sacrifices, and the slain sacrifices of the Lord God of Israel; that is his heritage, as God spake to him, (or that is their inheritance, as God said to them).

¹⁵ Therefore Moses gave (a) possession to the lineage of the sons of Reuben, by their kindreds;

¹⁶ and their term was from Aroer, that is in the brink of the strand of Arnon, and in the middle valley of the same strand, (and) all the plain also that leadeth to Medeba, (and their land was from Aroer, that is on the banks of the Arnon River, through the valley from the middle of that river, and all the plain that leadeth to Medeba,)

¹⁷ and to Heshbon, and all the towns of them, that be in the field places; and Dibon, and Bamothbaal, and the city of Bethbaalmeon,

¹⁸ and Jahaza, and Kedemoth, and Mephaath,

¹⁹ and Kiriathaim, and Sibmah, and Zarethshahar in the hill of the valley(,)

²⁰ (and) of Bethpeor, and of Ashdothpisgah, and Bethjeshimoth; (and Bethpeor, and Mount Pisgah, and Bethjeshimoth;)

²¹ (and) all the field cities, and all the realms of Sihon, king of Amorites, that reigned in Heshbon, whom Moses smote, with his princes (of) Midian, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, the dukes of Sihon, dwellers of the land. (and all the field cities, and all the kingdoms of Sihon, the king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, whom Moses struck down together with the Midianite leaders, that is, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, who were Sihon’s surrogates, and who lived in the land.)

²² And the sons of Israel killed by (the) sword, Balaam, the false diviner, the son of Beor, with other men slain there.

²³ And the term of the sons of Reuben was made the flood of Jordan (or And the western border of the sons of Reuben was the Jordan River); this is the possession of (the) men of Reuben, by their kindreds, (yea), of (their) cities and towns.

²⁴ And Moses gave a possession to the lineage of Gad, and to his sons, by their kindreds, of the which possession this is the parting;

²⁵ he gave the terms of Jazer, and all the cities of Gilead, and the half part of the land of the sons of Ammon, unto Aroer that is against Rabbah; (their territory included Jazer, and all the cities of Gilead, and half of the land of the Ammonites, unto Aroer, that is east of Rabbah;)

²⁶ and from Heshbon unto Ramath of Mizpeh, and Betonim, and Mahanaim, unto the terms of Debir (or unto the border of Lodebar);

²⁷ and in the valley he gave to them Betharam, and Bethnimrah, and Succoth, and Zaphon, that was the tother part of the realm of Sihon, the king of Heshbon; and the end of that term is (the) Jordan, unto the last part of the sea of Chinnereth over (the) Jordan, at the east coast, (or and the border was the Jordan River, unto the last part of the Sea of Galilee, or Lake Galilee, east of the Jordan River).

² 'This is the land that is left; all the circuits of the Philistines, and all Geshuri,

³ from Sihor which is on the front of Egypt, and unto the border of Ekron northward, to the Canaanite it is reckoned, five princes of the Philistines, the Gazathite, and the Ashdothite, the Eshkalonite, the Gittite, and the Ekronite, also the Avim.

⁴ 'From the south, all the land of the Canaanite, and Mearah, which is to the Sidonians, unto Aphek, unto the border of the Amorite;

⁵ and the land of the Giblite, and all Lebanon, at the sun-rising, from Baal-Gad under mount Hermon, unto the going in to Hamath:

⁶ all the inhabitants of the hill-country, from Lebanon unto Misrephoth-Maim, all the Sidonians: I — I dispossess them before the sons of Israel; only, cause it to fall to Israel for an inheritance, as I have commanded thee.

⁷ 'And now, apportion this land for an inheritance to the nine tribes, and the half of the tribe of Manasseh,' —

⁸ with it the Reubenite, and the Gadite, have received their inheritance, which Moses hath given to them beyond the Jordan eastward, as Moses servant of Jehovah hath given to them;

⁹ from Aroer, which is on the edge of the brook Arnon, and the city which is in the midst of the brook, and all the plain of Medeba unto Dihon,

¹⁰ and all the cities of Sihon king of the Amorite, who reigned in Heshbon, unto the border of the Bene-Ammon,

¹¹ and Gilead, and the border of the Geshurite, and of the Maachathite, and all mount Hermon, and all Bashan unto Salcah;

¹² all the kingdom of Og in Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth and in Edrei; he was left of the remnant of the Rephaim, and Moses doth smite them, and dispossess them;

¹³ and the sons of Israel dispossessed not the Geshurite, and the Maachathite; and Geshur and Maachath dwell in the midst of Israel unto this day.

¹⁴ Only, to the tribe of Levi he hath not given an inheritance; fire-offerings of Jehovah, God of Israel, is its inheritance, as He hath spoken to it.

¹⁵ And Moses giveth to the tribe of the sons of Reuben, for their families;

¹⁶ and the border is to them from Aroer, which is on the edge of the brook Arnon, and the city which is in the midst of the brook, and all the plain by Medeba,

¹⁷ Heshbon, and all its cities which are in the plain, Dibon, and Bamoth-Baal, and Beth-Baal-Meon,

¹⁸ and Jahazah, and Kedemoth, and Mephaath,

¹⁹ and Kirjathaim, and Sibmah, and Zareth-Shahar, in the mount of the valley,

²⁰ and Beth-Peor, and the springs of Pisgah, and Beth-Jeshimoth,

²¹ and all the cities of the plain, and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorite, who reigned in Heshbon, whom Moses smote, with the princes of Midian, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, princes of Sihon, inhabitants of the land.

²² And Balaam, son of Beor, the diviner, have the sons of Israel slain with the sword, among their wounded ones.

²³ And the border of the sons of Reuben is the Jordan, and its border; this is the inheritance of the sons of Reuben, for their families, the cities and their villages.

²⁴ And Moses giveth to the tribe of Gad, to the sons of Gad, for their families;

²⁵ and the border is to them Jazer, and all the cities of Gilead, and the half of the land of the Bene-Ammon, unto Aroer which is on the front of Rabbah,

²⁶ and from Heshbon unto Ramath-Mispeh, and Betonim, and from Mahanaim unto the border of Debir,

²⁷ and in the valley, Beth-Aram, and Beth-Nimrah, and Succoth, and Zaphon, the rest of the kingdom of Sihon king of Heshbon, the Jordan and its border, unto the extremity of the sea of Chinnereth, beyond the Jordan, eastward.
