²¹ How is the faithful city become a harlot! she that was full of justice! righteousness lodged in her, but now murderers.

²² Thy silver is become dross, thy wine mixed with water.

²³ Thy princes are rebellious, and companions of thieves; every one loveth bribes, and followeth after rewards: they judge not the fatherless, neither doth the cause of the widow come unto them.

²⁴ Therefore saith the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, the Mighty One of Israel, Ah, I will ease me of mine adversaries, and avenge me of mine enemies;

²⁵ and I will turn my hand upon thee, and thoroughly purge away thy dross, and will take away all thy tin;

²⁶ and I will restore thy judges as at the first, and thy counsellors as at the beginning: afterward thou shalt be called The city of righteousness, a faithful town.

²⁷ Zion shall be redeemed with justice, and her converts with righteousness.

²¹ How has the faithful city Sion, once full of judgment, become a harlot! wherein righteousness lodged, but now murderers.

²² Your silver is worthless, thy wine merchants mix the wine with water.

²¹ “ You people of Jerusalem previously faithfully worshiped only me, but now you have become like MET prostitutes who are not faithful to any husband. Previously, people there always acted justly/fairly and righteously, but now your city is full of murderers.

²² Previously, you were like MET pure silver, but now you have become like MET the scum that is left when silver is purified. Previously you were like pure wine, but you have become like MET wine that has a lot of water mixed with it.

²³ Your leaders are rebels; they spend time with thieves. They all want to get bribes and force others to give them gifts in order that they do good things for them. They do not defend orphans in court, and they do not do all they can to enable widows to get what they should receive.

²⁴ Therefore I, the Commander of the armies of angels, the mighty God of Israel, say to my enemies, 'I will get revenge on you; you will not cause me any more trouble. And I will pay you back for the evil things that you did.

²⁵ I will raise my fist to strike you. I will punish you severely MET, as though MET you were silver and I needed to heat you very greatly to melt you and get rid of the impurities.

²⁶ After that happens, I will give you good judges like you had previously; you will have wise counselors like you had long ago. Then people will call your city ‘a city where people act righteously,’ a city where people are loyal to me.' ”

²⁷ Because the people of Jerusalem will do what is fair/just, their city will be restored; those who repent will be saved because of their acting righteously.

²¹ The upright town has become untrue; there was a time when her judges gave right decisions, when righteousness had a resting-place in her, but now she is full of those who take men's lives.

²² Your silver is no longer true metal, your wine is mixed with water.

²³ Your chiefs have gone against the Lord, they have become friends of thieves; every one of them is looking for profit and going after rewards; they do not give right decisions for the child who has no father, and they do not let the cause of the widow come before them.

²⁴ For this reason the Lord, the Lord of armies, the Strong One of Israel, has said, I will put an end to my haters, and send punishment on those who are against me;

²⁵ And my hand will again be on you, washing away what is unclean as with soap, and taking away all your false metal;

²⁶ And I will give you judges again as at the first, and wise guides as in the past; then you will be named, The Town of Righteousness, the true town.

²⁷ Upright acts will be the price of Zion's forgiveness, and by righteousness will men be living there.

²¹ How is the faithful city become a harlot! It was full of judgment; righteousness used to lodge in it, but now murderers.

²² Thy silver is become dross, thy wine is mixed with water:

²³ thy princes are rebellious, and companions of thieves; every one loveth presents, and hunteth after rewards; they judge not the fatherless, and the cause of the widow cometh not unto them.

²⁴ Therefore saith the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, the Mighty One of Israel: Ah! I will ease me of mine adversaries, and avenge me of mine enemies.

²⁵ And I will turn my hand upon thee, and will thoroughly purge away thy dross, and take away all thine alloy;

²⁶ and I will restore thy judges as at the first, and thy counsellors as at the beginning. Afterwards thou shalt be called, Town of righteousness, Faithful city.

²⁷ Zion shall be redeemed with judgment, and they that return of her with righteousness.

²¹ How is the faithful city, that was full of judgment, become a harlot? justice dwelt in it, but now murderers.

²² Thy silver is turned into dress: thy wine is mingled with water.

²³ Thy princes are faithless, companions of thieves: they all love bribes, the run after rewards. They judge not for the fatherless: and the widow’s cometh not in to them.

²⁴ Therefore saith the Lord the God of hosts, the mighty one of Israel: Ah! I will comfort myself over my adversaries: and I will be revenged of my enemies.

²⁵ And I will turn my hand to thee, and I will clean purge away thy dress, and I will take away all thy tin.

²⁶ And I will restore thy judges as they were before, and thy counsellors as of old. After this thou shalt be called the city of the just, a faithful city.

²⁷ Sion shall be redeemed in judgment, and they shall bring her back in justice.

²¹ The city that used to be faithful has turned into a prostitute! Once she operated on principles of justice and followed what was right, but now only murderers live there.

²² Your silver has become worthless waste; you wine has been watered down.

²³ Your leaders are rebels, friends of thieves. They all love bribes and want to get kickbacks. They don't defend the rights of orphans, and refuse to take cases to help widows.

²⁴ So this is what the Lord says, the Lord Almighty, the Mighty One of Israel: Ha! I will take satisfaction in punishing my enemies, by paying back those who hate me!

²⁵ I will turn against you. I will refine you in a furnace, removing all impurities.

²⁶ I will give you good leaders as you used to have before, wise counselors as you had in the beginning. After that you will once again be called the City of Integrity, the Faithful City.

²⁷ Zion will be rescued by justice, those who repent by doing right.

²¹ Howe is the faithfull citie become an harlot? it was full of iudgement, and iustice lodged therein, but now they are murtherers.

²² Thy siluer is become drosse: thy wine is mixt with water.

²³ Thy Princes are rebellious and companions of theeues: euery one loueth giftes, and followeth after rewards: they iudge not the fatherlesse, neither doeth the widowes cause come before them.

²⁴ Therefore sayth the Lord God of hostes, the mightie one of Israel, Ah, I will ease me of mine aduersaries, and auenge me of mine enemies.

²⁵ Then I will turne mine hand vpon thee, and burne out thy drosse, till it be pure, and take away all thy tinne.

²⁶ And I will restore thy iudges as at the first, and thy counsellers as at the beginning: afterward shalt thou be called a citie of righteousnes, and a faithfull citie.

²⁷ Zion shall be redeemed in iudgement, and they that returne in her, in iustice.

²⁵ And I will turn my hand against thee, and purge away as with lye thy dross, and remove all thy tin:

²⁶ And I will restore thy judges as at the first, and thy counsellors as at the beginning; after that shalt thou be called, The city of righteousness, the town that is faithful.

²⁵ And I will again turn my hand toward thee, And wholly purge away thy dross, And take away all thy alloy.

²⁶ And I will restore thee judges, as at the first, And counsellors, as at the beginning. Then shalt thou be called the city of righteousness, the faithful city.

²⁷ Through justice shall Zion be delivered, And her reformed sons through righteousness.

²¹ How the faithful city has become a prostitute! She was full of mishpat ·justice·; righteousness lodged in her, but now murderers.

²² Your silver has become dross, your wine mixed with water.

²³ Your princes are rebellious, and companions of thieves. Everyone 'ahav ·affectionately loves· bribes, and follows after rewards. They don’t judge the orphan, neither does the cause of the widow come to them.

²⁴ Therefore the Lord, Adonai Tzva'ot Yahweh Commander of heaven’s armies, the Mighty One of Israel God prevails, says: “Ah, I will get relief from my adversaries, and avenge myself on my enemies;

²⁵ and I will turn my hand on you, thoroughly purge away your dross, and will take away all your tin.

²⁶ I will restore your judges as at the first, and your counselors as at the beginning. Afterward you shall be called ‘The city of righteousness, a faithful town.’

²⁷ Zion Mountain ridge, Marking shall be redeemed with mishpat ·justice·, and her converts with righteousness.

²¹ How the faithful city has become a prostitute! She who was full of justice—she was full of righteousness, but now she is full of murderers.

²² Your silver has become impure, your wine mixed with water.

²³ Your princes are rebels and companions of thieves; everyone loves bribes and runs after payoffs. They do not defend the fatherless, nor does the widow's legal plea come before them.

²⁴ Therefore this is the declaration of the Lord Yahweh of hosts, the Mighty One of Israel: “Woe to them! I will take vengeance against my adversaries, and avenge myself against my enemies;

²⁵ I will turn my hand against you, refine away your dross as with lye, and take away all your dross.

²⁶ I will restore your judges as at the first, and your counselors as at the beginning; after that you will be called the city of righteousness, a faithful town.”

²¹ How is the faithful city full of doom made an whore? rightfulness or rightwiseness dwelled therein; but now men-quellers dwell therein.

²² Thy silver is turned into dross, either filth; thy wine is meddled or mingled with water.

²³ Thy princes be unfaithful, the fellows of thieves; all love gifts, and follow yieldings, either meeds; they deem not to a fatherless child, and the cause of a widow entereth not to them.

²⁴ For this thing, saith the Lord God of hosts, the Strong of Israel, Alas! I shall be comforted on mine enemies, and I shall be avenged of mine enemies.

²⁵ And I shall turn mine hand to thee, and I shall seethe out thy filth to the clean, and I shall do away all thy tin.

²⁶ And I shall restore thy judges, as they were before, and thy counsellors, as in eld or old time. After these things thou shalt be called the city of the rightful or rightwise, a faithful city.

²⁷ Zion shall be again-bought in doom, and they shall bring it again into rightfulness or rightwiseness;

²¹ How is the faithful city full of doom made an whore? rightfulness dwelled therein; but now men-quellers dwell therein. (How the faithful city is made like a whore! Once it was full of justice, and righteousness lived there or and the righteous lived there; but now only murderers (live there)!)

²² Thy silver is turned into dross, either filth; thy wine is meddled with water (or thy wine is mixed with water).

²³ Thy princes be unfaithful, the fellows of thieves; all love gifts, and follow yieldings, either meeds; they deem not to a fatherless child, and the cause of a widow entereth not to them. (Thy leaders be unfaithful, the friends of thieves; all of them love gifts, and follow after bribes,or rewards; they do not judge favourably for a fatherless child, and a widow’s case never even cometh before them.)

²⁴ For this thing, saith the Lord God of hosts, the Strong of Israel, Alas! I shall be comforted on mine enemies, and I shall be venged of mine enemies. ²⁵ And I shall turn mine hand to thee, and I shall seethe out thy filth to the clean, and I shall do away all thy tin. (And I shall turn my hand to thee, and I shall boil out thy filth, until thou be cleansed, and I shall do away all of thine that be worthless.)

²⁶ And I shall restore thy judges, as they were before, and thy counsellors, as in eld time. After these things thou shalt be called the city of the rightful, a faithful city, (or And after these things thou shalt be called the city of the righteous, yea, a faithful city).

²⁷ Zion shall be again-bought in doom, and they shall bring it again into rightfulness; (Zion shall be redeemed in justice, and they shall bring it back to righteousness;)

²¹ How hath a faithful city become a harlot? I have filled it with judgment, Righteousness lodgeth in it — now murderers.

²² Thy silver hath become dross, Thy drink polluted with water.

²³ Thy princes are apostates, and companions of thieves, Every one loving a bribe, and pursuing rewards, The fatherless they judge not, And the plea of the widow cometh not to them.

²⁴ Therefore — the affirmation of the Lord — Jehovah of Hosts, the Mighty One of Israel: Ah, I am eased of Mine adversaries, And I am avenged of Mine enemies,

²⁵ And I turn back My hand upon thee, And I refine as purity thy dross, And I turn aside all thy tin,

²⁶ And I give back thy judges as at the first, And thy counsellors as in the beginning, After this thou art called, 'A city of righteousness — a faithful city.'

²⁷ Zion in judgment is redeemed, And her captivity in righteousness.
