Isaiah 11:1-8 in English

¹ And there shall come forth a shoot out of the stock of Jesse, and a branch out of his roots shall bear fruit.

² And the Spirit of Jehovah shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of Jehovah.

³ And his delight shall be in the fear of Jehovah; and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither decide after the hearing of his ears;

⁴ but with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and decide with equity for the meek of the earth; and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth; and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.

⁵ And righteousness shall be the girdle of his waist, and faithfulness the girdle of his loins.

⁶ And the wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.

⁷ And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together; and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.

⁸ And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the adder’s den.

¹ Like MET a new shoot often grows from the stump of a tree, there will be a descendant of King David who will be a new king.

² The Spirit of Yahweh will always be with him. The Spirit will enable him to be wise and to understand much about many things. The Spirit will enable him to decide what is good to do, and will enable him to be very powerful. The Spirit will enable him to know Yahweh and to revere him.

³ He will be glad to obey Yahweh. He will not decide whether someone is righteous or not only by seeing what that person looks like, or by listening to what others say about that person.

⁴ He will judge the cases of needy people fairly; and he will act justly toward poor people. He will punish evil people as a result of what he decides MTY; he will get rid of wicked people because of MTY their behavior.

⁵ He will always act righteously; his doing that will accompany him like MET a belt around his waist. He will always speak what is true; his doing that will accompany him like MET a sash around his waist.

⁶ When he becomes king, wolves and lambs will live together peacefully; leopards, instead of killing baby goats, will lie down with them. Similarly, calves and lions will eat food together; and a young child will take care of them.

⁷ Cows and bears will eat together; bear cubs and calves will lie down together. Lions will not eat other animals; instead, they will eat hay like cows do.

⁸ Babies will play safely near the holes where cobra snakes live; small children will even put their hands into nests of poisonous snakes, and the snakes will not harm them.

² And the spirit of the Lord will be resting on him, the spirit of wisdom and good sense, the spirit of wise guiding and strength, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord;

³ And he will not be guided in his judging by what he sees, or give decisions by the hearing of his ears:

⁴ But he will do right in the cause of the poor, and give wise decisions for those in the land who are in need; and the rod of his mouth will come down on the cruel, and with the breath of his lips he will put an end to the evil-doer.

⁵ And righteousness will be the cord of his robe, and good faith the band round his breast.

⁶ And the wolf will be living with the lamb, and the leopard will take his rest with the young goat; and the lion will take grass for food like the ox; and the young lion will go with the young ones of the herd; and a little child will be their guide.

⁷ And the cow and the bear will be friends while their young ones are sleeping together.

⁸ And the child at the breast will be playing by the hole of the snake, and the older child will put his hand on the bright eye of the poison-snake.

⁸ And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the adder, and the weaned child shall put forth its hand to the viper's den.

¹ And there shall come forth a rod out of the root of Jesse, and a flower shall rise up out of his root.

² And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him: the spirit of wisdom, and of understanding, the spirit of counsel, and of fortitude, the spirit of knowledge, and of godliness.

³ And he shall be filled with the spirit of the fear of the Lord. He shall not judge according to the sight of the eyes, nor reprove according to the hearing of the ears.

⁴ But he shall judge the poor with justice, and shall reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: land he shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips he shall slay the wicked.

⁵ And justice shall be the girdle of his loins: and faith the girdle of his reins.

⁶ The wolf shall dwell with the lamb: and the leopard shall lie down with the kid: the calf and the lion, and the sheep shall abide together, and a little child shall lead them.

⁷ The calf and the bear shall feed: their young ones shall rest together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.

⁸ And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp: and the weaned child shall thrust his hand into the den of the basilisk.

¹ A shoot will grow from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots will produce fruit.

² The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him, which is Spirit of wisdom and understanding, a Spirit of advice and power, a Spirit of knowledge and awe of the Lord.

³ His happiness will be in giving reverence to the Lord. He will not judge by what he sees, and he will not make decisions based on what he hears.

⁴ Instead, he will judge the poor justly, and make decisions fairness on behalf of the destitute people of the earth. He will strike the earth when he pronounces judgment, and he will execute the wicked with just a word from his lips.

⁵ He will wear goodness like a sash and trustworthiness like a belt.

⁶ Wolves will live with lambs; leopards will lie down with young goats, calves and young lions and young livestock will be together, and a small child will lead them along.

⁷ Cows and bears will graze side by side; young lions will eat straw like cattle.

⁸ Babies will be able to play safely near snake holes, little children will be able to put their hands into a vipers' den.

¹ But there shall come a rodde foorth of the stocke of Ishai, and a grasse shall growe out of his rootes.

² And the Spirite of the Lord shall rest vpon him: the Spirite of wisedome and vnderstanding, the Spirite of counsell and strength, the Spirite of knowledge, and of the feare of the Lord,

³ And shall make him prudent in the feare of the Lord: for he shall not iudge after the sight of his eies, neither reproue by ye hearing of his eares.

⁴ But with righteousnesse shall he iudge the poore, and with equitie shall he reprooue for the meeke of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lippes shall he slay the wicked.

⁵ And iustice shall be ye girdle of his loynes, and faithfulnesse the girdle of his reines.

⁶ The wolfe also shall dwell with the lambe, and the leopard shall lie with the kid, and the calfe, and the lyon, and the fat beast together, and a litle childe shall leade them.

⁷ And the kow and the beare shall feede: their yong ones shall lie together: and the lyon shall eate strawe like the bullocke.

⁸ And the sucking childe shall play vpon the hole of the aspe, and the wained childe shall put his hand vpon the cockatrice hole.

¹ And there shall come forth a shoot out of the stock of Jesse, and a twig shall grow forth out of his roots.

² And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD.

⁴ But he shall judge with righteousness the poor, and decide with equity for the suffering ones of the earth; and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.

⁵ And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his hips.

⁶ And the wolf shall dwell with the sheep, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling shall be together, and a little boy shall lead them.

⁷ And the cow and the she-bear shall feed, together shall their young ones lie down: and the lion shall like the ox eat straw.

⁸ And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and on the basilisk's den shall the weaned child stretch out his hand.

⁵ Righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, And faithfulness the girdle of his reins.

⁶ Then shall the wolf dwell with the lamb, And the leopard shall lie down with the kid; The calf, and the young lion, and the fatling shall be together, And a little child shall lead them.

⁷ The cow and the bear shall feed together, Together shall their young lie down, And the lion shall eat straw like the ox.

⁸ The suckling shall play upon the hole of the asp, And the near-weaned child lay his hand on the hiding-place of the basilisk.

² Ruach Yahweh Spirit of He sustains breathing will rest on him: the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of Adonai .

⁸ The nursing child will play near a cobra’s hole, and the weaned child will put his hand on the viper’s den.

¹ And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots:

² And the spirit of the LORD will rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;

³ And will make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he will not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears:

⁴ But with righteousness will he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he will smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips will he slay the wicked.

⁵ And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins.

⁶ The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.

⁷ And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.

⁸ And the suckling child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the den of the basilisk.

⁴ but he shall deem in rightfulness or rightwiseness poor men, and he shall reprove in equity, for the mild men of the earth. And he shall smite the land with the rod of his mouth, and with the spirit of his lips he shall slay the wicked man.

⁸ And a young sucking child from the teat shall delight on the hole of a snake, and he that is weaned shall put his hand in the cave of the cockatrice.

He shall not judge by the sight of his eyes, nor shall he rebuke, or convict, by the hearing of his ears;)

⁴ but he shall deem in rightfulness poor men, and he shall reprove in equity, for the mild men of the earth. And he shall smite the land with the rod of his mouth, and with the spirit of his lips he shall slay the wicked man. (but he shall judge the poor with justice, and he shall rebuke the meek, or the humble, of the earth with equity, or with fairness. And he shall strike the land with the rod of his mouth, and he shall kill the wicked with the spirit of his lips.)

⁵ And rightfulness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faith shall be the girding of his reins. (And justice shall be the belt about his loins, and faith shall be his girdle.)

⁴ And he hath judged in righteousness the poor, And decided in uprightness for the humble of earth, And hath smitten earth with the rod of his mouth, And with the breath of his lips he putteth the wicked to death.

⁵ And righteousness hath been the girdle of his loins, And faithfulness — the girdle of his reins.

⁶ And a wolf hath sojourned with a lamb, And a leopard with a kid doth lie down, And calf, and young lion, and fatling are together, And a little youth is leader over them.

⁷ And cow and bear do feed, Together lie down their young ones, And a lion as an ox eateth straw.

⁸ And played hath a suckling by the hole of an asp, And on the den of a cockatrice Hath the weaned one put his hand.
