¹⁷ And the light of Israel will be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame; and it will burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day.

¹⁸ And he will consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitful field, both soul and body: and it shall be as when a standard-bearer fainteth.

¹⁹ And the remnant of the trees of his forest shall be few, so that a child may write them.

²⁰ And it shall come to pass in that day, that the remnant of Israel, and they that are escaped of the house of Jacob, shall no more again lean upon him that smote them, but shall lean upon Jehovah, the Holy One of Israel, in truth.

²¹ A remnant shall return, even the remnant of Jacob, unto the mighty God.

²² For though thy people, Israel, be as the sand of the sea, only a remnant of them shall return: a destruction is determined, overflowing with righteousness.

²³ For a full end, and that determined, will the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, make in the midst of all the earth.

¹⁷ And the light of Israel shall be for a fire, and he shall sanctify him with burning fire, and it shall devour the wood as grass.

¹⁸ In that day the mountains shall be consumed, and the hills, and the forests, and fire shall devour both soul and body: and he that flees shall be as one fleeing from burning flame.

²² And though the people of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant of them shall be saved.

²³ He will finish the work, and cut it short in righteousness: because the Lord will make a short work in all the world.

¹⁷ I, Yahweh, who am like MET a light for the people of Israel, will be the fire; I, the Holy One, will be like a flame. The soldiers of Assyria are like MET thorns and briers, and I will burn them up in one night.

¹⁸ There are glorious forests and fertile farmlands in Assyria, but I will completely destroy them; they will be like SIM a very sick person who shrivels up and then dies.

¹⁹ There will be very few trees left in those forests; even a child will be able to count them.”

²⁰ In the future there will be only a few people left in Israel; not many descendants of Jacob will still be alive. But they will no longer rely on the king of Assyria, the king of the nation that tried to destroy them. Instead, they will faithfully/sincerely trust in Yahweh, the Holy One of Israel.

²¹ Those Israelis will return to their mighty God.

²² Now, the people of Israel are as numerous as the grains of sand on the seashore, but only a few of them will return from the countries to which they were exiled. Yahweh has decided to destroy most of the Israelis and that is what he must do because he is completely just/righteous.

²³ Yes, the Commander of the armies of angels has already decided to destroy the entire land of Israel.

¹⁹ And the rest of the trees of his wood will be small in number, so that a child may put them down in writing.

²⁰ And it will be in that day that the rest of Israel, and those of Jacob who have come safely through these troubles, will no longer go for help to him whose rod was on their back, but their faith will be in the Lord, the Holy One of Israel.

²¹ The rest, even the rest of Jacob, will come back to the Strong God.

²² For though your people, O Israel, are as the sand of the sea, only a small number will come back: for the destruction is fixed, overflowing in righteousness.

²³ For the Lord, the Lord of armies, is about to make destruction complete in all the land.

¹⁷ and the light of Israel shall be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame; and it shall burn and devour his thorns and his briars in one day,

¹⁸ and it shall consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitful field, both soul and body; and they shall be as when a sick man fainteth.

¹⁹ And the remainder of the trees of his forest shall be few: yea, a child might write them.

¹⁷ And the light of Israel shall be as a fire, and the Holy One thereof as a flame: and his thorns and his briers shall be set on fire, and shall be devoured in one day.

¹⁸ And the glory of his forest, and of his beautiful hill, shall be consumed from the soul even to the flesh, and he shall run away through fear.

¹⁹ And they that remain of the trees of his forest shall be so few, that they shall easily be numbered, and a child shall write them down.

²⁰ And it shall come to pass in that day, that the remnant of Israel, and they that shall escape of the house of Jacob, shall lean no more upon him that striketh them: but they shall lean upon the Lord the Holy One of Israel, in truth.

²¹ The remnant shall be converted, the remnant, I say, of Jacob, to the mighty God.

²² For if thy people, O Israel, shall be as the sand of the sea, a remnant of them shall be converted, the consumption abridged shall overflow with justice.

²³ For the Lord God of hosts shall make a consumption, and an abridgment in the midst of all the land.

¹⁷ Israel's light will become a fire, and his Holy One will become a flame. It will burn up his thorns and brambles in just one day.

¹⁸ It will totally destroy its splendid forests and orchards. Assyria will waste away, staggering off like someone sick.

¹⁹ The trees left in its forests will be so few that a child could count them.

²⁰ At that time those who are left in Israel and the survivors of the house of Jacob will no longer trust in those who turn on them, but they will truly trust in the Lord, the Holy One of Israel.

²¹ A remnant will return, a remnant of Jacob will come back to the Mighty God.

²² Israel, even though your people are as numerous as sand on the seashore, only a remnant will return. The Lord has rightly decided to destroy his people.

²³ The Lord God Almighty has rightly decided to bring destruction throughout the whole country.

¹⁷ And the light of Israel shalbe as a fire, and the Holy one thereof as a flame, and it shall burne, and deuoure his thornes and his briers in one day:

¹⁸ And shall consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitfull fieldes both soule and flesh: and he shalbe as ye fainting of a standard bearer.

¹⁹ And the rest of the trees of his forest shalbe fewe, that a childe may tell them.

²⁰ And at that day shall the remnant of Israel, and such as are escaped of the house of Iaakob, stay no more vpon him that smote them, but shall stay vpon ye Lord, ye Holy one of Israel in trueth.

²¹ A remnant will make teshuvah ·complete return·, even the remnant of Jacob Supplanter, to the mighty God.

²² For though your people, Israel God prevails, are like the sand of the sea, only a remnant of them will return. A destruction is determined, overflowing with righteousness.

²³ For the Lord, Adonai Tzva'ot Yahweh Commander of heaven’s armies, will make a full end, and that determined, throughout all the earth.

²² For why, Israel, if thy people is as the gravel of the sea, the remnants shall be turned thereof; an ending made short shall make rightfulness or rightwiseness to be plenteous.

²³ For why the Lord God of hosts shall make an ending and abridging, in the midst of all earth.

¹⁸ And the glory of his forest, and of his Carmel, shall be wasted, from the soul unto the flesh; and he shall be fleeing away for dread. (And the glory of his forest, and of his plentiful land, shall be destroyed, from the soul unto the flesh; and he shall flee away out of fear.)

¹⁹ And the remnants of the tree(s) of his forest shall be numbered for (such) fewness, and a child shall write them (or so that even a child could count them).

²⁰ And it shall be in that day, the remnant of Israel, and they that fled of the house of Jacob, shall not add for to trust on him that smiteth them; but it shall trust on the holy Lord of Israel, in truth. (And it shall be on that day, that the remnant of Israel, yea, they of the house of Jacob who fled, shall no longer trust him who striketh them; but they shall truly trust the Holy Lord of Israel.)

²¹ The remnants, I say, the remnants of Jacob, shall be converted to the strong Lord. (The remnants, I say, the remnants of Jacob, shall turn again to the strong Lord or shall return to the strong Lord.)

²² For why, Israel, if thy people is as the gravel of the sea, the remnants shall be turned (again) thereof; an ending made short shall make rightfulness to be plenteous. (Because, O Israel, though thy people be as innumerable as the sand of the sea, only a remnant shall turn again to him or shall return to him; and so a shortened ending shall make justice to be plentiful.)

²³ For why the Lord God of hosts shall make an ending and abridging, in the midst of all earth. (For the Lord God of hosts shall make an ending and a shortening, that is, destruction, over all the earth.)

¹⁷ And the light of Israel hath been for a fire, And his Holy One for a flame, And it hath burned, and devoured his thorn And his brier in one day.

¹⁸ And the honour of his forest, and his fruitful field, From soul even unto flesh He doth consume, And it hath been as the fainting of a standard-bearer.

¹⁹ And the rest of the trees of his forest are few, And a youth doth write them.

²⁰ And it hath come to pass, in that day, The remnant of Israel, And the escaped of the house of Jacob, Do not add any more to lean on its smiter, And have leant on Jehovah, The Holy One of Israel, in truth.

²¹ A remnant returneth — a remnant of Jacob, Unto the Mighty God.

²² For though thy people Israel be as the sand of the sea, A remnant doth return of it, A consumption determined, Overflowing with righteousness.

²³ For a consumption that is determined, The Lord, Jehovah of Hosts, Is making in the midst of all the land.
