Hosea 2:3-6 in English

³ lest I strip her naked, and set her as in the day that she was born, and make her as a wilderness, and set her like a dry land, and slay her with thirst.

⁴ Yea, upon her children will I have no mercy; for they are children of whoredom;

⁵ for their mother hath played the harlot; she that conceived them hath done shamefully; for she said, I will go after my lovers, that give me my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, mine oil and my drink.

⁶ Therefore, behold, I will hedge up thy way with thorns, and I will build a wall against her, that she shall not find her paths.

³ Say to your brother, My people, and to your sister, Pitied.

⁴ Plead with your mother, plead: for she is not my wife, and I am not her husband: and I will remove her fornication out of my presence, and her adultery from between her breasts:

⁵ that I may strip her naked, and make her again as she was at the day of her birth: and I will make her desolate, and make her as a dry land, and will kill her with thirst.

⁶ And I will not have mercy upon her children; for they are children of fornication.

³ Lest I strip her naked, and set her as in the day that she was born, and make her as a wilderness, and set her like a dry land, and slay her with thirst.

⁴ And I will not have mercy upon her children; for they be the children of whoredoms.

³ If they do not do that, I will not give them food and clothes as a husband should give to his wife; I will take away those things, and I will cause their nation to become as deserted as it was on the day that I brought their ancestors out of Egypt and caused them to become a nation MET. I will cause their country to be like SIM a desert; there will be no rain to water the ground MET.

⁴ I will not pity the people, because they have abandoned me as MET prostitutes abandon their husbands.

⁵ Their parents are like prostitutes MET: they have been unfaithful to me, and they have done very disgraceful things. They said, ‘We will run to our idols/gods who love us; they are the ones who give us food and water and wool and linen and olive oil, and wine to drink.’

⁶ So it will be as though MET I am blocking their road with thornbushes, and putting put a wall around them so that they do not know which way to go.

⁴ And I will have no mercy on her children, for they are the children of her loose ways.

⁵ For their mother has been untrue; she who gave them birth has done things of shame, for she said, I will go after my lovers, who give me my bread and my water, my wool and my linen, my oil and my wine.

⁶ For this cause I will put thorns in her road, building up a wall round her so that she may not go on her way.

³ lest I strip her naked, and set her as in the day that she was born, and make her as a wilderness, and set her as a dry land, and slay her with thirst.

⁴ And I will not have mercy upon her children; for they are the children of whoredoms.

⁵ For their mother hath played the harlot; she that conceived them hath done shamefully: for she said, I will go after my lovers, that give me my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, mine oil and my drink.

⁶ Therefore behold, I will hedge up thy way with thorns; and I will fence her in with a wall, that she shall not find her paths.

³ Lest I strip her naked, and set her as in the day that she was born: and I will make her as a wilderness, and will set her as a land that none can pass through, and will kill her with drought.

⁴ And I will not have mercy on her children: for they are the children of fornications.

⁵ For their mother hath committed fornication, she that conceived them is covered with shame: for she said: I will go after my lovers, that give me my bread, and my water, my wool, and my flax, my oil, and my drink.

⁶ Wherefore behold I will hedge up thy way with thorns, and I will stop it up with a wall, and she shall not find her paths.

³ Otherwise I will strip her naked as the day she was born, and make her like a desert, a barren land, and let her die of thirst.

⁴ I will have no pity on her children because they are children of prostitution.

⁵ For their mother was a prostitute who conceived them in a shameful way. She said, ‘I'll run after my lovers who give me my food and water, my wool and flax and olive oil, and my drink.’

⁶ That is why I am going to block her path with thorn bushes, and build a stone wall to stop her so she won't find her way.

³ Lest I strippe her naked, and set her as in the day that shee was borne, and make her as a wildernes, and leaue her like a drie land, and slaie her for thirst.

⁴ And I wil haue no pitie vpon her children: for they be the children of fornications.

⁵ For their mother hath plaied the harlot: she that conceiued them, hath done shamefully: for shee said, I will goe after my louers that giue me my bread and my water, my wooll and my flaxe, mine oyle and my drinke.

⁶ Therefore beholde, I will stoope thy way with thornes, and make an hedge, that shee shall not finde her pathes.

³ (2-5) Lest I strip her naked, and set her as in the day that she was born, and make her as a wilderness, and set her like a dry land, and slay her with thirst.

⁴ (2-6) And I will not have compassion upon her children; for they are children of harlotry.

⁵ (2-7) For their mother hath played the harlot, she that conceived them hath done shamefully; for she said: 'I will go after my lovers, that give me my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, mine oil and my drink.'

⁶ (2-8) Therefore, behold, I will hedge up thy way with thorns, and I will make a wall against her, that she shall not find her paths.

³ Lest I strip her naked, and set her as in the day that she was born, And make her as a wilderness, and set her like a dry land, And slay her with thirst.

⁵ (2:7) For their mother hath played the harlot; she that conceived them hath done shamefully; for she said, I will go after my lovers, that give me my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, my oil and my drink.

⁶ (2:8) Therefore, behold, I will hedge up thy way with thorns, and I will close it up with a fence, that she shall not find her paths.

⁵ For their mother hath been guilty of lewdness; She that bore them hath brought upon herself shame; For she said, I will go after my lovers, Who give me my food and my water, My wool and my flax, my oil and my strong drink.

⁶ Therefore, behold, I will hedge up her way with thorns, And I will enclose her with a wall, So that she shall not find her paths.

³ If not, I will strip her naked and show her nakedness as on the day that she was born. I will make her like the wilderness, like a parched land, and I will make her die from thirst.

⁴ I will not have any mercy on her children, for they are children of prostitution.

⁵ For their mother has been a prostitute, and she who conceived them has acted shamefully. She said, “I will go after my lovers, for they give me my bread and water, my wool and flax, my oil and drink.”

⁶ Therefore I will build up a hedge to block her way with thorns. I will build up a wall against her so she cannot find her way.

³ lest I strip her naked, and make her bare as in the day that she was born, and make her like a wilderness, and set her like a dry land, and kill her with thirst.

⁴ Indeed, on her children I will have no mercy, for they are children of unfaithfulness.

³ lest peradventure I spoil her naked, and set her naked by the day of her nativity or of her birth. And I shall set or put her as a wilderness, and I shall ordain her as a land without a way, and I shall slay her in thirst.

⁴ And I shall not have mercy on the sons of her, for they be the sons of fornications;

⁵ for the mother of them did forni-cation, she is shamed that conceived them, for she said, I shall go after my lovers, that give my loaves to me, and my waters, and my wool, and my flax, and mine oil, and my drink.

⁶ For this thing, lo! I shall hedge thy way with thorns, and I shall hedge it with a wall, and she shall not find her paths.

³ lest peradventure I spoil her naked, and set her naked by the day of her nativity. And I shall set her as a wilderness, and I shall ordain her as a land without (a) way, and I shall slay her in thirst. (lest perhaps I strip her naked, yea, make her as naked as she was on the day of her birth. And I shall make her as bare as a wilderness, and I shall ordain her as a land without a way, and I shall kill her with thirst.)

⁴ And I shall not have mercy on the sons of her, for they be the sons of fornications; (And then I shall not have mercy on her children, for they be the children of adulteries, or of idolatries;)

⁵ for the mother of them did fornication, she is shamed that conceived them, for she said, I shall go after my lovers, that give my loaves to me, and my waters, and my wool, and my flax, and mine oil, and my drink. (for their mother did adultery, or idolatry, yea, she is shamed who conceived them, for she said, I shall go after my lovers, who give me my bread, and my water, and my wool, and my flax, and my oil, and my drink.)

⁶ For this thing, lo! I shall hedge thy way with thorns, and I shall hedge it (about) with a wall, and she shall not find her paths.

³ Lest I strip her naked. And have set her up as in the day of her birth, And have made her as a wilderness, And have set her as a dry land, And have put her to death with thirst.

⁴ And her sons I do not pity, For sons of whoredoms are they,

⁵ For gone a-whoring hath their mother, Acted shamefully hath their conceiver, For she hath said, I go after my lovers, Those giving my bread and my water, My wool and my flax, my oil and my drink.

⁶ Therefore, lo, I am hedging up thy way with thorns, And I have made for her a wall, And her paths she doth not find.
