⁶ But if ye shall turn away from following me, ye or your children, and not keep my commandments and my statutes which I have set before you, but shall go and serve other gods, and worship them;

⁷ then will I cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and this house, which I have hallowed for my name, will I cast out of my sight; and Israel shall be a proverb and a byword among all peoples.

⁸ And though this house is so high, yet shall every one that passeth by it be astonished, and shall hiss; and they shall say, Why hath Jehovah done thus unto this land, and to this house?

⁹ and they shall answer, Because they forsook Jehovah their God, who brought forth their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and laid hold on other gods, and worshipped them, and served them: therefore hath Jehovah brought all this evil upon them.

¹⁰ And it came to pass at the end of twenty years, wherein Solomon had built the two houses, the house of Jehovah and the king’s house

¹¹ (now Hiram the king of Tyre had furnished Solomon with cedar-trees and fir-trees, and with gold, according to all his desire), that then king Solomon gave Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee.

¹² And Hiram came out from Tyre to see the cities which Solomon had given him; and they pleased him not.

¹³ And he said, What cities are these which thou hast given me, my brother? And he called them the land of Cabul unto this day.

¹⁴ And Hiram sent to the king sixscore talents of gold.

¹⁵ And this is the reason of the levy which king Solomon raised, to build the house of Jehovah, and his own house, and Millo, and the wall of Jerusalem, and Hazor, and Megiddo, and Gezer.

¹⁶ Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up, and taken Gezer, and burnt it with fire, and slain the Canaanites that dwelt in the city, and given it for a portion unto his daughter, Solomon’s wife.

¹⁷ And Solomon built Gezer, and Beth-horon the nether,

¹⁸ and Baalath, and Tamar in the wilderness, in the land,

¹⁹ and all the store-cities that Solomon had, and the cities for his chariots, and the cities for his horsemen, and that which Solomon desired to build for his pleasure in Jerusalem, and in Lebanon, and in all the land of his dominion.

²⁰ As for all the people that were left of the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, who were not of the children of Israel;

²¹ their children that were left after them in the land, whom the children of Israel were not able utterly to destroy, of them did Solomon raise a levy of bondservants unto this day.

²² But of the children of Israel did Solomon make no bondservants; but they were the men of war, and his servants, and his princes, and his captains, and rulers of his chariots and of his horsemen.

²³ These were the chief officers that were over Solomon’s work, five hundred and fifty, who bare rule over the people that wrought in the work.

²⁴ But Pharaoh’s daughter came up out of the city of David unto her house which Solomon had built for her: then did he build Millo.

²⁵ And three times in a year did Solomon offer burnt-offerings and peace-offerings upon the altar which he built unto Jehovah, burning incense therewith, upon the altar that was before Jehovah. So he finished the house.

²⁶ And king Solomon made a navy of ships in Ezion-geber, which is beside Eloth, on the shore of the Red Sea, in the land of Edom.

⁶ But if ye or your children do in any wise revolt from me, and do not keep my commandments and my ordinances, which Moses set before you, and ye go and serve other gods, and worship them:

⁷ then will I cut off Israel from the land which I have given them, and this house which I have consecrated to my name I will cast out of my sight; and Israel shall be a desolation and a by-word to all nations.

⁸ And this house, which is high, shall be so that every one that passes by it shall be amazed, and shall hiss; and they shall say, Wherefore has the Lord done thus to this land, and to this house?

⁹ And men shall say, Because they forsook the Lord their God, who brought out their fathers from Egypt, out of the house of bondage, and they attached themselves to strange gods, and worshipped them, and served them: therefore the Lord has brought this evil upon them.

^9a Then Solomon brought up the daughter of Pharao out of the city of David into his house which he built for himself in those days.

¹⁰ During twenty years in which Solomon was building the two houses, the house of the Lord, and the house of the king,

¹¹ Chiram king of Tyre helped Solomon with cedar wood, and fir wood, and with gold, and all that he wished for: then the king gave Chiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee.

¹² So Chiram departed from Tyre, and went into Galilee to see the cities which Solomon gave to him; and they pleased him not. And he said,

¹³ What are these cities which thou hast given me, brother? And he called them Boundary until this day.

¹⁴ And Chiram brought to Solomon a hundred and twenty talents of gold,

²⁶ even that for which king Solomon built a ship in Gasion Gaber near Ælath on the shore of the extremity of the sea in the land of Edom.

⁶ But if you or your descendants turn away from me and disobey the commands and decrees that I have given to you, and if you start to worship other gods,

⁷ I will remove my Israeli people from the land that I have given to them. I will also abandon this temple that I have set apart/dedicated to be the place where people should worship me. Then people everywhere will despise the people of Israel and make fun of them.

⁸ This temple will become a heap of ruins. Everyone who passes by will be astonished when they see it, and they will be shocked and say, ‘Why has Yahweh done this to this land and to this temple?’

⁹ And other people will reply, ‘It happened because the Israeli people abandoned Yahweh their God, the one who brought their ancestors out of Egypt. They started to accept and worship other gods. And that is why Yahweh has caused them to experience all these disasters.’ ”

¹⁰ Solomon's workers labored for twenty years to build the temple and the palace.

¹¹ Hiram, the king of Tyre had arranged for his workers to give Solomon all the cedar and pine logs and all the gold that he needed for this work. After it was all finished, King Solomon gave to Hiram twenty cities in the Galilee region.

¹² But when Hiram went from Tyre to Galilee to see the cities that Solomon had given to him, he was not pleased with them.

¹³ He said to Solomon, “My friend, those cities that you gave me are worthless!” So, that area is still called ❛Worthless❜.

¹⁴ Hiram paid Solomon only five tons of gold for those cities.

¹⁵ This is a record of the work that King Solomon forced men to do. He forced them to build the temple and his palace and the terraces/landfills on the east side of the city, and the wall around Jerusalem, and to rebuild the cities of Hazor and Megiddo and Gezer.

¹⁶ The reason they needed to rebuild Gezer was that the army of the king of Egypt had attacked Gezer and captured it. Then they had burned the houses in the city and killed all the people of the Canaan people-group who lived there. The king of Egypt gave that city to his daughter as a gift when she married Solomon.

¹⁷ So Solomon's workers also rebuilt Gezer, and they also rebuilt Lower Beth-Horon city.

¹⁸ They also rebuilt Baalath and Tamar towns in the desert in the southern part of Judah.

¹⁹ They also built cities where they kept the supplies for Solomon, the places where his horses and chariots were kept. They also built everything else that Solomon wanted them to build, in Jerusalem and in Lebanon, and in other places in the area over which he ruled.

²⁰ There were many people who belonged to the Amor people-group, the Heth people-group, the Periz people-group, the Hiv people-group, and the Jebus people-group who were not killed when the Israelis captured their land.

²¹ Their descendants still lived in Israel. It was those people whom Solomon forced to become his slaves to build all those places, and they are still slaves.

²² But Solomon did not force any Israeli people to become slaves. Some Israeis became soldiers and army officers and commanders and drivers of his chariots and soldiers who rode on horses.

²³ There were 550 officials who supervised the slaves who worked to build all those places.

²⁴ After Solomon's wife, who was the daughter of the king of Egypt, moved from the place outside Jerusalem called ❛The City of David❜ to the palace that Solomon's workers built for her, Solomon told his workers to fill in the slopes on the east side of the city.

²⁵ Three times each year Solomon brought to the temple offerings that were completely burned on the altar and offerings to restore fellowship with Yahweh. He also brought incense to be burned in the presence of Yahweh. And so his men finished building the temple.

²⁶ King Solomon's workers also built a fleet of ships at Ezion-Geber city, which is near Elath city, on the shore of the Gulf of Aqaba, in the land belonging to the Edom people-group.

¹³ He said, “What cities are these which you have given me, my brother?” He called them the land of Cabul to this day.

¹⁴ Hiram sent to the king one hundred twenty talents of gold.

¹⁵ This is the reason of the forced labor which king Solomon conscripted: to build Yahweh’s house, his own house, Millo, Jerusalem’s wall, Hazor, Megiddo, and Gezer.

¹⁹ all the storage cities that Solomon had, the cities for his chariots, the cities for his horsemen, and that which Solomon desired to build for his pleasure in Jerusalem, and in Lebanon, and in all the land of his dominion.

²⁴ But Pharaoh’s daughter came up out of David’s city to her house which Solomon had built for her. Then he built Millo.

²⁵ Solomon offered burnt offerings and peace offerings on the altar which he built to Yahweh three times per year, burning incense with them on the altar that was before Yahweh. So he finished the house.

²⁶ King Solomon made a fleet of ships in Ezion Geber, which is beside Eloth, on the shore of the Red Sea, in the land of Edom.

²³ These were the five hundred fifty chief officers who were over Solomon’s work, who ruled over the people who labored in the work.

²⁴ But Pharaoh’s daughter came up out of David’s city to her house which Solomon had built for her. Then he built Millo.

²⁵ Solomon offered burnt offerings and peace offerings on the altar which he built to Yahweh three times per year, burning incense with them on the altar that was before Yahweh. So he finished the house.

²⁶ King Solomon made a fleet of ships in Ezion Geber, which is beside Eloth, on the shore of the Red Sea, in the land of Edom.

⁶ But if you turn away from following me, you or your children, and not keep my commandments and my statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods and worship them,

⁷ then I will cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and I will cast this house, which I have made holy for my name, out of my sight; and Israel will be a proverb and a byword amongst all peoples.

⁸ Though this house is so high, yet everyone who passes by it will be astonished and hiss; and they will say, ‘Why has the LORD done this to this land and to this house?’

⁹ and they will answer, ‘Because they abandoned the LORD their God, who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and embraced other gods, and worshipped them, and served them. Therefore the LORD has brought all this evil on them.’”

¹⁰ At the end of twenty years, in which Solomon had built the two houses, the LORD’s house and the king’s house

¹¹ (now Hiram the king of Tyre had furnished Solomon with cedar trees and cypress trees, and with gold, according to all his desire), King Solomon gave Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee.

¹² Hiram came out of Tyre to see the cities which Solomon had given him; and they didn’t please him.

¹³ He said, “What cities are these which you have given me, my brother?” He called them the land of Cabul to this day.

¹⁴ Hiram sent to the king one hundred and twenty talents of gold.

¹⁵ This is the reason of the forced labour which king Solomon conscripted: to build the LORD’s house, his own house, Millo, Jerusalem’s wall, Hazor, Megiddo, and Gezer.

¹⁶ Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up, taken Gezer, burnt it with fire, killed the Canaanites who lived in the city, and given it for a wedding gift to his daughter, Solomon’s wife.

¹⁷ Solomon built in the land Gezer, Beth Horon the lower,

¹⁸ Baalath, Tamar in the wilderness,

¹⁹ all the storage cities that Solomon had, the cities for his chariots, the cities for his horsemen, and that which Solomon desired to build for his pleasure in Jerusalem, and in Lebanon, and in all the land of his dominion.

²⁰ As for all the people who were left of the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, who were not of the children of Israel—

²¹ their children who were left after them in the land, whom the children of Israel were not able utterly to destroy—of them Solomon raised a levy of bondservants to this day.

²² But of the children of Israel Solomon made no bondservants; but they were the men of war, his servants, his princes, his captains, and rulers of his chariots and of his horsemen.

⁸ And this house will become a mass of broken walls, and everyone who goes by will be overcome with wonder at it and make whistling sounds; and they will say, Why has the Lord done so to this land and to this house?

⁹ And their answer will be, Because they were turned away from the Lord their God, who took their fathers out of the land of Egypt; they took for themselves other gods and gave them worship and became their servants: that is why the Lord has sent all this evil on them.

¹⁰ Now at the end of twenty years, in which time Solomon had put up the two houses, the house of the Lord and the king's house,

¹¹ (Hiram, king of Tyre, had given Solomon cedar-trees and cypress-trees and gold, as much as he had need of,) King Solomon gave Hiram twenty towns in the land of Galilee.

¹² But when Hiram came from Tyre to see the towns which Solomon had given him, he was not pleased with them.

¹³ And he said, What sort of towns are these which you have given me, my brother? So they were named the land of Cabul, to this day.

¹⁴ And Hiram sent the king a hundred and twenty talents of gold.

¹⁵ Now, this was the way of Solomon's system of forced work for the building of the Lord's house and of the king's house, and the Millo and the wall of Jerusalem and Megiddo and Gezer. ...

¹⁶ Pharaoh, king of Egypt, came and took Gezer, burning it down and putting to death the Canaanites living in the town, and he gave it for a bride-offering to his daughter, Solomon's wife. ...

¹⁷ ... and Solomon was the builder of Gezer and Beth-horon the lower,

¹⁸ And Baalath and Tamar in the waste land, in that land;

¹⁹ And all the store-towns and the towns which Solomon had for his war-carriages and for his horsemen, and everything which it was his pleasure to put up in Jerusalem and in Lebanon and in all the land under his rule.

²⁰ As for the rest of the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, who were not children of Israel;

²¹ Their children who were still in the land, and whom the children of Israel had not been able to put to complete destruction, them did Solomon put to forced work, to this day.

²² But Solomon did not put the children of Israel to forced work; they were the men of war, his servants, his captains, and his chiefs, captains of his war-carriages and of his horsemen.

²³ These were the chiefs of the overseers of Solomon's work, five hundred and fifty, in authority over the people who did the work.

²⁴ At that time Solomon made Pharaoh's daughter come up from the town of David to the house which he had made for her: then he made the Millo.

²⁵ Three times in the year it was Solomon's way to give burned offerings and peace-offerings on the altar he had made to the Lord, causing his fire-offering to go up on the altar before the Lord.

²⁶ And King Solomon made a sea-force of ships in Ezion-geber, by Eloth, on the Red Sea, in the land of Edom.

⁶ But if ye shall at all turn from following me, ye or your children, and will not keep my commandments, my statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods, and worship them;

⁷ then will I cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and the house, which I have hallowed to my name, will I cast out of my sight; and Israel shall be a proverb and a by word among all peoples;

⁸ and this house, which is high, every one that passes by it shall be astonished at, and shall hiss, and they shall say, Why has Jehovah done thus to this land and to this house?

⁹ And they shall say, Because they forsook Jehovah their God, who brought forth their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and have attached themselves to other gods, and have worshipped them and served them; therefore has Jehovah brought upon them all this evil.

¹⁰ And it came to pass at the end of twenty years, when Solomon had built the two houses, the house of Jehovah and the king's house,

¹¹ Hiram the king of Tyre having furnished Solomon with cedar-trees and cypress-trees, and with gold, according to all his desire, — that then king Solomon gave Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee.

²⁵ And three times in the year did Solomon offer up burnt-offerings and peace-offerings upon the altar that he had built to Jehovah, and he burned incense upon that which was before Jehovah. So he finished the house.

²⁶ And king Solomon made a fleet of ships in Ezion-Geber, which is beside Eloth, on the shore of the Red Sea, in the land of Edom.

⁶ But if you and your children revolting shall turn away from following me, and will not keep my commandments, and my ceremonies, which I have set before you, but will go and worship strange gods, and adore them:

⁷ I will take away Israel from the face of the land which I have given them; and the temple which I have sanctified to my name, I will cast out of my sight; and Israel shall be a proverb, and a byword among all people.

⁸ And this house shall be made an example of: every one that shall pass by it, shall be astonished, and shall hiss, and say: Why hath the Lord done thus to this land, and to this house:

⁹ And they shall answer: Because they forsook the Lord their God, who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and followed strange gods, and adored them, and worshipped them: therefore hath the Lord brought upon them all this evil.

¹⁰ And when twenty years were ended after Solomon had built the two houses, that is, the house of the Lord, and the house of the king,

¹¹ (Hiram the king of Tyre furnishing Solomon with cedar trees and fir trees, and gold according to all he had need of.) then Solomon gave Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee.

¹² And Hiram came out of Tyre, to see the towns which Solomon had given him, and they pleased him not,

¹³ And he said: Are these the cities which thou hast given me, brother? And he called them the land of Chabul, unto this day.

¹⁴ And Hiram sent to king Solomon a hundred and twenty talents of gold.

¹⁵ This is the sum of the expenses, which king Solomon offered to build the house of the Lord, and his own house, and Mello, and the wall of Jerusalem, and Heser, and Mageddo, and Gazer.

¹⁶ Pharao the king of Egypt came up and took Gazer, and burnt it with fire: and slew the Chanaanite that dwelt in the city, and gave it for a dowry to his daughter, Solomon’s wife.

¹⁷ So Solomon built: Gazer, and Beth-horon the nether,

¹⁸ And Baalath, and Palmira in the land of the wilderness.

¹⁹ And all the towns that belonged to himself, and were not walled, he fortified, the cities also of the chariots, and the cities of the horsemen, and whatsoever he had a mind to build in Jerusalem, and in Libanus, and in all the land of his dominion.

²⁰ All the people that were left of the Amorrhites, and Hethites, and Pherezites, and Hevites, and Jebusites, that are not of the children of Israel:

²¹ Their children, that were left in the land, to wit, such as the children of Israel had not been able to destroy, Solomon made tributary unto this day.

²² But of the children of Israel Solomon made not any to be bondmen, but they were men of war, and his servants, and his princes, and captains, and overseers of the chariots and horses.

²³ And there were five hundred and fifty chief officers set over all the works of Solomon, and they had people under them, and had charge over the appointed works.

²⁴ And the daughter of Pharao came up out of the city of David to her house, which Solomon had built for her: then did he build Mello.

²⁵ Solomon also offered three times every year holocausts, and victims of peace offerings upon the altar which he had built to the Lord, and he burnt incense before the Lord: and the temple was finished.

²⁶ And king Solomon made a fleet in Asiongaber, which is by Ailath on the shore of the Red Sea in the land of Edom.

⁶ But if you or your descendants turn away and do not keep the laws and the commandments I have given you, and if you go and serve and worship other gods,

⁷ then I will cut Israel off from the land I have given them. I will banish from my presence this Temple I have dedicated to my honor, and I will make it an object lesson of ridicule among the nations.

⁸ This Temple will become a pile of rubble. All who pass by it will be appalled and will hiss, saying, ‘Why has the Lord acted in such a way to this land and this Temple?’

⁹ The answer will come, ‘Because they abandoned the Lord their God, who brought their forefathers out of Egypt, and have embraced other gods, worshiping them and serving them. That's why the Lord has brought all this trouble upon them.’”

¹⁰ It took twenty years for Solomon to construct the two buildings—the Temple of the Lord and his own palace. After this,

¹¹ King Solomon gave twenty towns in Galilee to Hiram king of Tyre, because Hiram had provided him with all the cedar and juniper and gold he wanted.

¹² But when Hiram went from Tyre to see the cities that Solomon had given him, he was not happy with them.

¹³ “What are these towns you have given me, my brother?” asked Hiram. He called them the land of Cabul, the name they are known by to this day.

¹⁴ Even so, Hiram sent the king 120 talents of gold in payment.

¹⁵ Here is the account of the forced labor that King Solomon imposed to build the Lord's Temple, his own palace, the terraces, and the wall of Jerusalem, as well as Hazor, Megiddo, and Gezer.

¹⁶ Pharaoh, king of Egypt, had attacked and captured Gezer. He had set it on fire, killed the Canaanites living in the town. He had then given it as a wedding dowry to his daughter, Solomon's wife.

¹⁷ Solomon rebuilt Gezer and lower Beth-horon,

¹⁸ Baalath and Tamar in the wilderness, in the land of Judah,

¹⁹ and all of Solomon's towns for storage, and the towns for his chariots and for his horsemen, plus whatever Solomon wanted to build in Jerusalem, in Lebanon, and throughout his entire kingdom.

²⁰ The descendants of the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites (people who were not Israelites)

²¹ who remained in the land—those whom the Israelites were unable to destroy completely—were conscripted by Solomon to work as forced laborers, as they continue to do to this day.

²² But Solomon did not enslave any of the Israelites. They were his soldiers, officials, commanders, captains, chariot commanders, and horsemen.

²³ They were also the chief officers in charge of Solomon's programs: 550 in command of the people who carried out the work.

²⁴ Once Pharaoh's daughter had moved from the City of David to the palace that Solomon had built for her, he built the city terraces.

²⁵ Three times each year Solomon sacrificed burnt offerings and friendship offerings on the altar he had built for the Lord, burning incense before the Lord with them, and so fulfilled what was required at the Temple.

²⁶ King Solomon built a fleet of ships at Ezion-geber, which is near Eloth on the shore of the Red Sea, in the land of Edom.

⁶ But if ye and your children turne away from mee, and wil not keepe my commandements, and my statutes (which I haue set before you) but go and serue other gods, and worship them,

⁸ Euen this hie house shall bee so: euery one that passeth by it, shalbe astonied, and shall hisse, and they shall say, Why hath the Lord done thus vnto this land and to this house?

⁹ And they shall answere, Because they forsooke the Lord their God, which brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and haue taken holde vpon other gods, and haue worshipped them, and serued them, therfore hath the Lord brought vpon them all this euill.

¹⁰ And at the ende of twentie yeeres, when Salomon had buylded the two houses, the house of the Lord, and the Kings palace,

¹¹ (For the which Hiram the King of Tyrus had brought to Salomon timber of cedar, and firre trees, and golde, and whatsoeuer he desired) then King Salomon gaue to Hiram twentie cities in the land of Galil.

¹² And Hiram came out from Tyrus to see the cities which Salomon had giuen him, and they pleased him not.

¹³ Therefore hee sayde, What cities are these which thou hast giuen me, my brother? And hee called them the land of Cabul vnto this day.

¹⁴ And Hiram had sent the King sixe score talents of gold.

¹⁵ And this is the cause of the tribute why King Salomon raised tribute, to wit, to builde the house of the Lord, and his owne house, and Millo, and the wall of Ierusalem, and Hazor, and Megiddo, and Gezer.

¹⁹ And all the cities of store, that Salomon had, euen cities for charets, and cities for horsemen, and all that Salomon desired and woulde build in Ierusalem, and in Lebanon and in all the land of his dominion)

²³ These were the princes of the officers, that were ouer Salomons worke: euen fiue hundreth and fiftie, and they ruled the people that wrought in the worke.

²⁴ And Pharaohs daughter came vp from the citie of Dauid vnto the house which Salomon had built for her: then did he buylde Millo.

²⁵ And thrise a yere did Salomon offer burnt offringes and peace offrings vpon the altar which he built vnto the Lord: and hee burnt incense vpon the altar that was before the Lord, when hee had finished the house.

¹¹ (Now Hiram the king of Tyre had supplied Solomon with cedar-trees and fir-trees, and with gold, according to all his desire,) that king Solomon then gave to Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee.

¹³ And he said, What kind of cities are these which thou hast given me, my brother? And he called them, The land of Cabul, until this day.

²¹ Their children that were left after them in the land, whom the children of Israel had not been able utterly to destroy, these did Solomon levy as tributary laborers until this day.

²² Yet of the children of Israel did Solomon make no one a bond-man; but they were the men of war, and his servants, and his princes, and his captains, and the officers of his chariots, and of his horsemen.

²³ These also were the chiefs of the superintendents that were over Solomon's work, five hundred and fifty, who ruled over the people that wrought on the work.

²⁴ But Pharaoh's daughter came up out of the city of David unto her house which he had built for her: then did he build the Millo.

²⁵ And Solomon did offer three times in every year burnt-offerings and peace-offerings upon the altar which he had built unto the Lord, and he burnt incense upon the one that was before the Lord. So he finished the house.

²⁶ And king Solomon made a ship in 'Ezyon-geber, which is near Eloth, on the shore of the Red Sea, in the land of Edom.

⁶ But if ye or your children do in anywise revolt from me, and do not keep my commandments and my ordinances, which Moses set before you, and ye go and serve other gods, and worship them:

⁷ then will I cut off Israel from the land which I have given them, and this house which I have consecrated to my name I will cast out of my sight; and Israel shall be a desolation and a byword to all nations.

⁸ And this house, which is high, shall be so that everyone that passes by it shall be amazed, and shall hiss; and they shall say, Wherefore has the Lord done thus to this land, and to this house?

⁹ And men shall say, Because they forsook the Lord their God, who brought out their fathers from Egypt, out of the house of bondage, and they attached themselves to strange gods, and worshiped them, and served them: therefore the Lord has brought this evil upon them.

¹⁰ During twenty years in which Solomon was building the two houses, the house of the Lord, and the house of the king,

⁷ then will I cut off Israel from off the ground that I have given them; and this house that I have set apart to my name, I will cast it out of my sight, and Israel will become an example to be mocked and an object of ridicule among all peoples.

⁸ This temple will become a heap of ruins, and everyone who passes by it will be shocked and will hiss. They will ask, 'Why has Yahweh done this to this land and to this house?'

⁹ Others will answer, 'Because they forsook Yahweh, their God, who had brought their ancestors out of the land of Egypt, and they laid hold of other gods and bowed down to them and worshiped them. That is why Yahweh has brought all this disaster on them.'”

¹⁰ It came about at the end of twenty years that Solomon had finished building the two buildings, the temple of Yahweh and the king's palace.

¹¹ Now Hiram, the king of Tyre, had furnished Solomon with cedar and cypress trees, and with gold—all that Solomon desired—so King Solomon gave Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee.

¹² Hiram came out from Tyre to see the cities that Solomon had given him, but they did not please him.

¹³ So Hiram said, “What cities are these which you have given me, my brother?” Hiram called them the Land of Kabul, which they are still called today.

¹⁴ Hiram had sent to the king 120 talents of gold.

¹⁷ So Solomon rebuilt Gezer and Beth Horon the Lower,

¹⁸ Baalath and Tamar in the wilderness in the land of Judah,

¹⁹ and all the store cities that he possessed, and the cities for his chariots and the cities for his horsemen, and whatever he wished to build for his pleasure in Jerusalem, in Lebanon, and in all the lands under his rule.

²⁰ As for all the people who were left of the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, who were not of the people of Israel,

²¹ their descendants who were left after them in the land, whom the people of Israel were not able to totally destroy—Solomon made them into forced laborers, which they are to this day.

²² However, Solomon made no forced laborers of the people of Israel. Instead, they became his soldiers and his servants, his officials, and his officers and commanders of his chariot forces and his horsemen.

²³ These were also the chief officers managing the supervisors who were over Solomon's works, 550 of them, who supervised the people who did the work.

²⁴ Pharaoh's daughter moved from the city of David to the house that Solomon had built for her. Later, Solomon built the Millo.

²⁵ Three times each year Solomon offered burnt offerings and peace offerings on the altar that he built for Yahweh, burning incense with them on the altar that was before Yahweh. So he completed the temple and was now using it.

²⁶ King Solomon built a fleet of ships in Ezion Geber, which is near Elath on the shore of the Red Sea, in the land of Edom.

⁶ But if you turn away from following me, you or your children, and not keep my commandments and my statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods and worship them,

⁷ then I will cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and I will cast this house, which I have made holy for my name, out of my sight; and Israel will be a proverb and a byword among all peoples.

⁸ Though this house is so high, yet everyone who passes by it will be astonished and hiss; and they will say, ‘Why has Yahweh done this to this land and to this house?’

⁹ and they will answer, ‘Because they abandoned Yahweh their God, who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and embraced other gods, and worshiped them, and served them. Therefore Yahweh has brought all this evil on them.’”

⁷ I shall do away Israel from the face of the land which I gave to them; and I shall cast away from my sight the temple, which I have hallowed to my name; and Israel shall be into a proverb and into a fable, to all peoples.

⁸ And this house shall be into ensample of God’s offence; each man that shall pass by it, shall wonder, and shall hiss, and shall say, Why hath the Lord done thus to this land, and to this house?

⁹ And they shall answer, For they forsook their Lord God, that led the fathers of them out of Egypt; and they pursued or followed alien gods, and worshipped them, and honoured them; therefore the Lord hath brought in upon them all this evil.

¹⁰ Soothly when twenty years were ful filled, after that Solomon had builded twain or two houses, that is, the house of the Lord, and the house of the king,

¹¹ while Hiram, king of Tyre, gave to Solomon trees of cedar, and of fir, and gold, by all thing that he had needful; then Solomon gave to Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee.

¹² And Hiram went out of Tyre that he should see the cities, which Solo-mon had given to him, and those or they pleased not him;

¹³ and he said, Whether these be the cities, which thou, brother, hast given to me? And he called those cities the land of Cabul, that is, displeasing, unto this day.

¹⁴ Also Hiram sent to king Solomon sixscore talents of gold.

¹⁵ This is the rent, which Solomon raised, to build the house of the Lord, and his own house, and the Millo, and the wall of Jerusalem, and Hazor, and Megiddo, and Gezer.

¹⁶ For Pharaoh, king of Egypt, ascended or went up, and took Gezer, and burnt it by fire; and he killed Canaanites, that dwelled in the city, and gave it into a dower to his daughter, the wife of Solomon.

¹⁷ Therefore Solomon builded Gezer, and the lower Bethhoron,

¹⁸ and Baalath, and Tadmor in the land of wilderness;

¹⁹ and he made strong all the towns, that pertained to him, and were with-out wall, and the cities of chariots, and the cities of knights, and what-ever thing pleased him to build in Jerusalem, and in Lebanon, and in all the land of his power.

²⁰ Solomon made tributaries unto this day all the people, that were left of the Amorites, Hittites, and Perizzites, and Hivites, and Jebusites, which be not of the sons of Israel,

²¹ the sons of these heathen men, that dwelled in the land, that is, which the sons of Israel might not destroy.

²² Soothly king Solomon ordained not any man of the sons of Israel to serve, that is, in vile works, and of the fields, but they were men of war, and servants of him, and princes, and dukes, and masters of his chariots and horses.

²³ And five hundred and fifty princes were sovereigns over all the works of Solomon, the which princes had the people subject to them, and command-ed to the works ordained.

²⁴ And the daughter of Pharaoh went up from the city of David into her house, which house Solomon had builded to her; then he builded the Millo.

²⁵ Also Solomon offered in three times by all years burnt sacrifices and peaceable sacrifices, on the altar which he had builded to the Lord; and he burnt incense before the Lord, and the temple was performed.

²⁶ Also king Solomon made a navy in Eziongeber, which is beside Elath, in the brink of the Red Sea, in the land of Idumea.

⁶ Forsooth if by turning away, ye and your sons turn away, and follow not me, and keep not my behests and ceremonies, which I have set forth to you, but ye go, and worship alien gods, and honour them, (But if by turning away, ye or your sons turn away, and do not follow me, and do not obey my commands and statutes, which I have set forth to you, but ye go, and worship other gods, and honour them,)

⁷ I shall do away Israel from the face of the land which I gave to them; and I shall cast away from my sight the temple, which I have hallowed to my name, (or and I shall throw away from my sight the Temple which I have dedicated, or consecrated, in honour of my name); and Israel shall be into a proverb and into a fable, to all peoples.

⁸ And this house shall be into (an) ensample of God’s offence; each man that shall pass by it, shall wonder, and shall hiss, and shall say, Why hath the Lord done thus to this land, and to this house?

⁹ And they shall answer, For they forsook their Lord God, that led the fathers of them out of Egypt; and they followed alien gods (or and they followed other gods), and worshipped them, and honoured them; therefore the Lord hath brought in upon them all this evil.

¹⁰ Soothly when twenty years were ful filled, after that Solomon had builded (the) twain houses (or after that Solomon had begun to build the two houses), that is, the house of the Lord, and the house of the king,

¹¹ while Hiram, king of Tyre, gave to Solomon trees of cedar, and of fir, and gold, by all thing that he had needful; then Solomon gave to Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee. (and Hiram, the king of Tyre, had given to Solomon cedar, and fir, or pine, trees, and gold, yea, all the things that he had need of; then Solomon gave Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee.)

¹² And Hiram went out of Tyre that he should see the cities, which Solomon had given to him, and those pleased not him; (And Hiram went out from Tyre to see the cities which Solomon had given to him, and they did not please him;)

¹³ and he said, Whether these be the cities, which thou, brother, hast given to me? And he called those cities the land of Cabul, that is, displeasing, (or that is, The Displeasing Land), unto this day.

¹⁴ Also Hiram (had) sent to king Solomon sixscore talents of gold.

¹⁵ This is the rent, which Solomon raised, to build the house of the Lord, and his own house, (and the) Millo, and the wall of Jerusalem, and Hazor, and Megiddo, and Gezer.

¹⁶ (For) Pharaoh, king of Egypt, (had) ascended, and took Gezer, and burnt it by fire; and he killed (the) Canaanites, that dwelled in the city, and gave it into (a) dower to his daughter, the wife of Solomon. (For Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, had gone up, and took Gezer, and burned it down; and he killed the Canaanites, who lived in that city, and gave it as a dowry to his daughter, Solomon’s wife.)

¹⁷ Therefore Solomon builded Gezer (or And so Solomon rebuilt Gezer), and the lower Bethhoron,

¹⁸ and Baalath, and Tadmor in the land of (the) wilderness;

¹⁹ and he made strong all the towns, that pertained to him, and were without (a) wall, and the cities of chariots, and the cities of knights, and whatever thing (it) pleased him to build in Jerusalem, and in Lebanon, and in all the land of his power.

²⁰ (And) Solomon made tributaries unto this day (of) all the people, that (were) left of the Amorites, Hittites, and Perizzites, and Hivites, and Jebusites, which be not of the sons of Israel,

²¹ the sons of these heathen men, that dwelled in the land, that is, which the sons of Israel might not destroy. (the sons of these heathen, who continued to live in the land, that is, they whom the Israelites did not destroy.)

²² Soothly king Solomon ordained not any man of the sons of Israel to serve, that is, in vile works, and of the fields, but they were men of war, and servants of him, and princes, and dukes, and masters of his chariots and horses. (And King Solomon did not let any man of the Israelites serve in slavery, or in the fields, but they all were warriors, and his servants, and the leaders, and the masters, of his chariots and of his horsemen.)

²³ And five hundred and fifty princes were sovereigns over all the works of Solomon, the which princes had the people subject to them, and commanded to the works ordained (or and were in charge of the ordained works).

²⁴ And the daughter of Pharaoh went up from the city of David into her house, which house Solomon had builded to her (or which house Solomon had built for her); then he builded (the) Millo.

²⁵ Also Solomon offered in three times by all years burnt sacrifices and peaceable sacrifices, on the altar which he had builded to the Lord; and he burnt incense before the Lord, and the temple was performed. (And three times each year Solomon offered burnt sacrifices and peace offerings, on the altar which he had built to the Lord, and he burned incense before the Lord. And so the Temple was completed.)

²⁶ Also king Solomon made a navy in Eziongeber, which is beside Elath, in the brink of the Red Sea, in the land of Idumea. (And King Solomon also made a navy in Eziongeber, which is beside Elath, on the Gulf of Aqaba, in the land of Edom.)

⁶ 'If ye at all turn back — you and your sons — from after Me, and keep not My commands — My statutes, that I have set before you, and ye have gone and served other gods, and bowed yourselves to them,

⁷ then I have cut off Israel from the face of the ground that I have given to them, and the house that I have hallowed for My name I send away from My presence, and Israel hath been for a simile and for a byword among all the peoples;

⁸ as to this house, that is high, every one passing by it is astonished, and hath hissed, and they have said, Wherefore hath Jehovah done thus to this land and to this house?

⁹ and they have said, Because that they have forsaken Jehovah their God, who brought out their fathers from the land of Egypt, and they lay hold on other gods, and bow themselves to them, and serve them; therefore hath Jehovah brought in upon them all this evil.'

¹⁰ And it cometh to pass, at the end of twenty years, that Solomon hath built the two houses, the house of Jehovah, and the house of the king.

¹¹ Hiram king of Tyre hath assisted Solomon with cedar-trees, and with fir-trees, and with gold, according to all his desire; then doth king Solomon give to Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee.

¹² And Hiram cometh out from Tyre to see the cities that Solomon hath given to him, and they have not been right in his eyes,

¹³ and he saith, 'What are these cities that thou hast given to me, my brother?' and one calleth them the land of Cabul unto this day.

¹⁴ And Hiram sendeth to the king a hundred and twenty talents of gold.

¹⁵ And this is the matter of the tribute that king Solomon hath lifted up, to build the house of Jehovah, and his own house, and Millo, and the wall of Jerusalem, and Hazor, and Megiddo, and Gezer,

¹⁶ (Pharaoh king of Egypt hath gone up and doth capture Gezer, and doth burn it with fire, and the Canaanite who is dwelling in the city he hath slain, and giveth it with presents to his daughter, wife of Solomon.)

¹⁷ And Solomon buildeth Gezer, and Beth-Horon the lower,

¹⁸ and Baalath, and Tadmor in the wilderness, in the land;

¹⁹ and all the cities of stores that king Solomon hath, and the cities of the chariots, and the cities of the horsemen, and the desire of Solomon that he desired to build in Jerusalem, and in Lebanon, and in all the land of his dominion.

²⁰ The whole of the people that is left of the Amorite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite, who are not of the sons of Israel —

²¹ their sons who are left behind them in the land, whom the sons of Israel have not been able to devote — he hath even lifted up on them a tribute of service unto this day.

²² And out of the sons of Israel Solomon hath not appointed a servant, for they are the men of war, and his servants, and his heads, and his captains, and the heads of his chariots, and his horsemen.

²³ These are the heads of the officers who are over the work of Solomon, fifty and five hundred, those ruling among the people who are labouring in the work.

²⁴ Only, the daughter of Pharaoh went up out of the city of David unto her house that Solomon built for her; then he built Millo.

²⁵ And Solomon caused to ascend, three times in a year, burnt-offerings and peace-offerings on the altar that he built to Jehovah, and he perfumed it with that which is before Jehovah, and finished the house.

²⁶ And a navy hath king Solomon made in Ezion-Geber, that is beside Eloth, on the edge of the Sea of Suph, in the land of Edom.
