2 Kings 11:7-14 in English

⁷ And the two companies of you, even all that go forth on the sabbath, shall keep the watch of the house of Jehovah about the king.

⁸ And ye shall compass the king round about, every man with his weapons in his hand; and he that cometh within the ranks, let him be slain: and be ye with the king when he goeth out, and when he cometh in.

⁹ And the captains over hundreds did according to all that Jehoiada the priest commanded; and they took every man his men, those that were to come in on the sabbath, with those that were to go out on the sabbath, and came to Jehoiada the priest.

¹⁰ And the priest delivered to the captains over hundreds the spears and shields that had been king David’s, which were in the house of Jehovah.

¹¹ And the guard stood, every man with his weapons in his hand, from the right side of the house to the left side of the house, along by the altar and the house, by the king round about.

¹² Then he brought out the king’s son, and put the crown upon him, and gave him the testimony; and they made him king, and anointed him; and they clapped their hands, and said, Long live the king.

¹³ And when Athaliah heard the noise of the guard and of the people, she came to the people into the house of Jehovah:

¹⁴ and she looked, and, behold, the king stood by the pillar, as the manner was, and the captains and the trumpets by the king; and all the people of the land rejoiced, and blew trumpets. Then Athaliah rent her clothes, and cried, Treason! treason!

⁷ And there shall be two parties among you, even every one that goes out on the sabbath, and they shall keep the guard of the Lord's house before the king.

⁸ And do ye compass the king about every man with his weapon in his hand, and he that goes into the ranges shall die: and they shall be with the king in his going out and in his coming in.

⁹ And the captains of hundreds did all things that the wise Jodae commanded; and they took each his men, both those that went in on the sabbath-day, and those that went out on the sabbath-day, and went in to Jodae the priest.

¹⁰ And the priest gave to the captains of hundreds the swords and spears of king David that were in the house of the Lord.

¹¹ And the footmen stood each with his weapon in his hand from the right corner of the house to the left corner of the house, by the altar and the house round about the king.

¹² And he brought forth the king's son, and put upon him the crown and gave him the testimony; and he made him king, and anointed him: and they clapped their hands, and said, Long live the king.

¹³ And Gotholia heard the sound of the people running, and she went in to the people to the house of the Lord.

¹⁴ And she looked, and, behold, the king stood near a pillar according to the manner; and the singers and the trumpeters were before the king and all the people of the land even rejoicing and sounding with trumpets: and Gotholia rent her garments, and cried, A conspiracy, a conspiracy.

¹³ And when Athaliah heard the noise of the guard and of the people, she came to the people into the house of the LORD:

¹⁴ and she looked, and, behold, the king stood by the pillar, as the manner was, and the captains and the trumpets by the king; and all the people of the land rejoiced, and blew with trumpets. Then Athaliah rent her clothes, and cried, Treason, treason.

⁷ The two groups that are not working on the Sabbath day must guard the temple to protect little King Joash.

⁸ You must stand around the king wherever he goes, with your weapons in your hands. You must kill anyone who comes near you.”

⁹ The officers who supervised the guards did what Jehoiada told them to do. Each one brought to Jehoiada the guards that he supervised—the guards who were just finishing their work and those who were about to start their work on the Sabbath day.

¹⁰ The priest distributed to the commanders of the guards the spears and shields that had belonged to King David, that were kept/stored in the temple.

¹¹ Then he commanded all the guards to stand in their positions, each one with his sword in his hand, all around the young king.

¹² Then he brought Joash out. He put the crown on his head and gave him a scroll on which were written the rules that the kings needed to obey. Then he poured some olive oil on Joash's head and proclaimed that he was now the king. The people all clapped their hands and shouted, “We desire/hope that the king will live for many years!”

¹³ When Athaliah heard the noise that was being made by the guards and the other people, she ran to the temple, where the people were gathered.

¹⁴ She saw the new king standing there alongside one of the big pillars, which was the place at the temple where the kings usually stood. She saw that he was surrounded by the temple officers and men blowing trumpets, and that the people were shouting joyfully, and some of them were also blowing trumpets. She tore her clothes to show her distress and shouted, “You are traitors! You have tricked/deceived me!”

⁷ And there shall be two parties amongst you, even every one that goes out on the Sabbath, and they shall keep the guard of the Lord's house before the king.

¹⁴ and she looked, and behold, the king stood by the pillar, as the tradition was, with the captains and the trumpets by the king; and all the people of the land rejoiced, and blew trumpets. Then Athaliah tore her clothes and cried, “Treason! Treason!”

⁷ And the two divisions of you, who go out on the Sabbath and keep the watch of the house of the Lord,

⁸ Will make a circle round the king, every man being armed; and whoever comes inside your lines is to be put to death; keep with the king, when he goes out and when he comes in.

⁹ And the captains of hundreds did as Jehoiada the priest gave them orders; every one took with him his men, those who came in and those who went out on the Sabbath, and they came in to Jehoiada the priest.

¹⁰ And the priest gave to the captains of hundreds the spears and body-covers which had been King David's, and which were kept in the house of the Lord.

¹¹ Then the armed men took up their positions, every man with his instruments of war in his hand, from the right side of the house to the left, round about the altar and the house.

¹² Then he made the king's son come out, and put the crown on him and the arm-bands, and made him king, and put the holy oil on him; and they all, making sounds of joy with their hands, said, Long life to the king.

¹³ Now Athaliah, hearing the noise made by the people, came to the people in the house of the Lord;

¹⁴ And looking, she saw the king in his regular place by the pillar, and the captains and the horns near him; and all the people of the land giving signs of joy and sounding the horns. Then Athaliah, violently parting her robes, gave a cry, saying, Broken faith, broken faith!

⁷ And the two parts of you, all those that go forth on the sabbath, even they shall keep the watch of the house of Jehovah about the king.

⁸ And ye shall encompass the king round about, every man with his weapons in his hand; and he that comes within the ranks shall be put to death; and ye shall be with the king when he goes out and when he comes in.

⁹ And the captains of the hundreds did according to all that Jehoiada the priest commanded; and they took every man his men, those that were to come in on the sabbath, with them that were to go forth on the sabbath, and they came to Jehoiada the priest.

¹⁰ And the priest gave to the captains of the hundreds king David's spears and shields which were in the house of Jehovah.

¹¹ And the couriers stood by the king round about, every man with his weapons in his hand, from the right side of the house to the left side of the house, toward the altar and the house.

¹² And he brought forth the king's son, and put the crown upon him, and gave him the testimony; and they made him king, and anointed him; and they clapped their hands, and said, Long live the king!

¹³ And Athaliah heard the noise of the couriers and of the people; and she came to the people into the house of Jehovah.

¹⁴ And she looked, and behold, the king stood on the dais, according to the custom, and the princes and the trumpeters were by the king; and all the people of the land rejoiced, and blew with trumpets. And Athaliah rent her garments and cried, Conspiracy! Conspiracy!

⁷ But let two parts of you, all that go forth on the sabbath, keep the watch of the house of the Lord about the king.

⁸ And you shall compass him round about, having weapons in your hands: and if any man shall enter the precinct of the temple, let him be slain: and you shall be with the king coming in and going out.

⁹ And the centurions did according to all things that Joiada the priest had commanded them: and taking every one their men, that went in on the sabbath, with them that went out on the sabbath, came to Joiada the priest.

¹⁰ And he gave them the spears, and the arms of king David, which were in the house of the Lord.

¹¹ And they stood having every one their weapons in their hands, from the right side of the temple, unto the left side of the altar, and of the temple, about the king.

¹² And he brought forth the king’s son, and put the diadem upon him, and the testimony: and they made him king, and anointed him: and clapping their hands. they said, God save the king.

¹³ And Athalia heard the noise of the people running: and going in to the people into the temple of the Lord,

¹⁴ She saw the king standing upon a tribunal, as the manner was, and the singers, and the trumpets near him, and all the people of the land rejoicing, and sounding the trumpets: and she rent her garments, and cried: A conspiracy, a conspiracy.

⁷ The two divisions that would normally go off duty on the Sabbath will guard the Lord's Temple for the king.

⁸ Surround the king with weapons drawn, and anyone who approaches this line must be killed. Stay close to the king wherever he goes.”

⁹ The commanders of hundreds followed all the instructions that Jehoiada the priest had given. They each took their own men, those who were coming on duty on the Sabbath and those going off duty, and came to Jehoiada the priest.

¹⁰ Then the priest handed over to the commanders of hundreds the spears and shields that had belonged to King David which were kept in the Lord's Temple.

¹¹ The guards stood with weapons drawn surrounding the king by the altar, and in a line around the Temple, from the south side to the north side of the Temple.

¹² Then Jehoiada led out the king's son, placed the crown on him, and handed him a copy of God's Law. They proclaimed him king and anointed him. The people clapped, and shouted, “Long live the king!”

¹³ When Athaliah heard the noise of the guards and the people, she rushed to the crowds at the Lord's Temple.

¹⁴ She saw the king standing by his pillar as the custom was. The commanders and trumpeters were with the king, and everyone was celebrating and blowing trumpets. Athaliah ripped her clothes and screamed out, “Treason! Treason!”

⁷ And two parts of you, that is, all that goe out on the Sabbath day, shall keepe the watch of the house of the Lord about the King.

⁸ And ye shall compasse the King rounde about, euery man with his weapon in his hande, and whosoeuer commeth within the ranges, let him be slayne: be you with the King, as he goeth out and in.

⁹ And the captaines of the hundreths did according to all that Iehoiada the Priest commaded, and they tooke euery man his men that entred in to their charge on the Sabbath with them that went out of it on the Sabbath, and came to Iehoiada the Priest.

¹⁰ And the Priest gaue to the captaines of hundreths the speares and the shieldes that were King Dauids, and were in the house of the Lord.

¹¹ And the garde stoode, euery man with his weapon in his hande, from the right side of the house to the left side, about the altar and about the house, round about the King.

¹² Then he brought out the Kings sonne, and put the crowne vpon him and gaue him the Testimonie, and they made him King: also they anoynted him, and clapt their handes, and sayde, God saue the King.

¹³ And when Athaliah heard the noyse of the running of the people, shee came in to the people in the house of the Lord.

¹⁴ And when shee looked, beholde, the King stoode by a pillar, as the maner was, and the princes and the trumpetters by the King, and al the people of the land reioyced, and blew with trumpets. Then Athaliah rent her clothes, and cryed, Treason, treason.

¹⁰ And the priest gave to the captains over the hundred the spears and shields that had belonged to king David, that were in the house of the Lord.

¹¹ And the runners stood every man with his weapons in his hand, from the right side of the house to the left side of the house, by the altar and within, round about the king.

¹² And he brought forth the king's son, and put the crown upon him, and gave him the testimony, and they made him king, and anointed him; and they clapped their hands, and said, Long live the king.

¹³ And when 'Athalyah heard the noise of the runners and of the people, she came to the people in the house of the Lord.

¹⁴ And she looked, and, behold, the king stood upon a stand, according to custom, and the princes and the trumpeters were by the king, and all the people of the land were rejoicing, and blowing with trumpets: and 'Athalyah then rent her clothes, and cried, Conspiracy! conspiracy!

¹⁴ And she looked, and, behold, the king stood near a pillar according to the manner; and the singers and the trumpeters were before the king and all the people of the land even rejoicing and sounding with trumpets: and Athaliah rent her garments, and cried, A conspiracy, a conspiracy.

⁷ The two other groups who are not serving on the Sabbath, you must keep the watch over the house of Yahweh for the king.

⁸ You must surround the king, every man with his weapons in his hand. Whoever enters within your ranks, let him be killed. You must stay with the king when he goes out, and when he comes in.

⁹ So the commanders of hundreds obeyed everything Jehoiada the priest commanded. Each one took his men, those who were to come in to serve on the Sabbath, and those who were to stop serving on that Sabbath; and they came to Jehoiada the priest.

¹⁰ Then Jehoiada the priest gave the commanders of hundreds the spears and shields that belonged to King David and that were in the house of Yahweh.

¹¹ So the guards stood, each man with his weapon in his hand, from the right side of the temple to the left side, near the altar and the temple, surrounding the king.

¹² Then Jehoiada brought out the king's son Joash, put the crown on him, and gave him the covenant decrees. Then they made him king and anointed him. They clapped their hands and said, “Long live the king!”

¹³ When Athaliah heard the noise of the guard and of the people, she came to the people in the house of Yahweh.

¹⁴ She looked, and, behold, the king was standing by the pillar, as the custom was, and the captains and the trumpeters were by the king. All the people of the land were rejoicing and blowing trumpets. Then Athaliah tore her clothes and shouted, “Treason! Treason!”

⁷ The two companies of you, even all who go out on the Sabbath, shall keep the watch of Yahweh’s house around the king.

⁸ You shall surround the king, every man with his weapons in his hand; and he who comes within the ranks, let him be slain. Be with the king when he goes out, and when he comes in.”

⁹ The captains over hundreds did according to all that Jehoiada the priest commanded; and they each took his men, those who were to come in on the Sabbath with those who were to go out on the Sabbath, and came to Jehoiada the priest.

¹⁰ The priest delivered to the captains over hundreds the spears and shields that had been king David’s, which were in Yahweh’s house.

¹¹ The guard stood, every man with his weapons in his hand, from the right side of the house to the left side of the house, along by the altar and the house, around the king.

¹² Then he brought out the king’s son, and put the crown on him, and gave him the covenant; and they made him king and anointed him; and they clapped their hands, and said, “Long live the king!”

¹³ When Athaliah heard the noise of the guard and of the people, she came to the people into Yahweh’s house;

¹⁰ And to the captains over hundreds the priest gave king David's spears and shields, that were in the temple of the LORD.

¹¹ And the guard stood, every man with his weapons in his hand, around the king, from the right corner of the temple to the left corner of the temple, along by the altar and the temple.

¹² And he brought forth the king's son, and put the crown upon him, and gave him the testimony; and they made him king, and anointed him; and they clapped their hands, and said, God save the king.

¹³ And when Athaliah heard the noise of the guard and of the people, she came to the people into the temple of the LORD.

¹⁴ And when she looked, behold, the king stood by a pillar, as the manner was , and the princes and the trumpeters by the king, and all the people of the land rejoiced, and blew with trumpets. And Athaliah rent her clothes, and cried, Treason, treason.

⁸ And ye shall encompass the king, and ye shall have arms in your hands; and if any man enter into the enclosing or precinct of the temple, be he slain; and ye shall be with the king going in and going out.

⁹ And the chieftains upon hundreds did by all things that Jehoiada, the priest, had commanded to them; and they all taking their men that entered to the sabbath day, with them that went out from the sabbath day, came to Jehoiada, the priest.

¹⁰ Which gave to them the spears, and the armours of king David, that were in the house of the Lord.

¹¹ And all stood having arms in their hand, from the right side of the temple unto the left side of the altar and of the house, about the king.

¹² And he brought forth the son of the king, and put upon his head a diadem, and the witnessing; and they made him king, and anointed him; and they clapped with the hands, and said, The king live!

¹³ Forsooth Athaliah heard the voices of the people running, and she enter-ed to the companies into the temple of the Lord,

¹⁴ and she saw the king standing on the throne, by custom, and singers, and companies nigh him, and all the people of the land being glad, and singing with trumps. And she rent her clothes, and cried, Swearing together! swearing together! or Conjuration! con-juration! either treason.

⁷ Forsooth two parts of you all going out in the sabbath, keep they the watches of the house of the Lord about the king. (And so the two parts of you that be off-duty on the Sabbath, keep they watch over the king in the House of the Lord.)

⁸ And ye shall compass the king, and ye shall have arms in your hands; and if any man enter into the closing of the temple, be he slain; and ye shall be with the king going in and going out. (And ye shall encompass, or surround, the king, and ye shall have weapons in your hands; and if anyone enter into the enclosing, or the interior, of the Temple, they shall be killed; and ye shall be with the king coming in and going out.)

⁹ And the chieftains upon hundreds did by all things that Jehoiada, the priest, had commanded to them; and they all taking their men that entered to the sabbath day, with them that went out from the sabbath day, came to Jehoiada, the priest, (or and they all took their men who went on duty on the Sabbath day, with those who went off-duty on the Sabbath day, and came to Jehoiada, the priest).

¹³ Forsooth Athaliah heard the voice(s) of the people running, and she entered to the companies into the temple of the Lord, (And Athaliah heard all the noise that the people made, and she came into the Temple of the Lord,)

¹⁴ and she saw the king standing on the throne (or and she saw the king standing by the throne), (as) by custom, and singers, and companies nigh him, and all the people of the land being glad, and singing with trumps. And she rent her clothes, and cried, Swearing together! swearing together!/ Conjuration! conjuration! either treason.

⁷ and two parts of you, all going out on the sabbath — they have kept the charge of the house of Jehovah about the king,

⁸ and ye have compassed the king round about, each with his weapons in his hand, and he who is coming unto the ranges is put to death; and be ye with the king in his going out and in his coming in.'

⁹ And the heads of the hundreds do according to all that Jehoiada the priest commanded, and take each his men going in on the sabbath, with those going out on the sabbath, and come in unto Jehoiada the priest,

¹⁰ and the priest giveth to the heads of the hundreds the spears and the shields that king David had, that are in the house of Jehovah.

¹¹ And the runners stand, each with his weapons in his hand, from the right shoulder of the house unto the left shoulder of the house, by the altar and by the house, by the king round about;

¹² and he bringeth out the son of the king, and putteth on him the crown, and the testimony, and they make him king, and anoint him, and smite the hand, and say, 'Let the king live.'

¹³ And Athaliah heareth the voice of the runners and of the people, and she cometh in unto the people, to the house of Jehovah,

¹⁴ and looketh, and lo, the king is standing by the pillar, according to the ordinance, and the heads, and the trumpets, are by the king, and all the people of the land are rejoicing, and blowing with trumpets, and Athaliah rendeth her garments, and calleth, 'Conspiracy! conspiracy!'
