²⁴ And they went in to offer sacrifices and burnt-offerings. Now Jehu had appointed him fourscore men without, and said, If any of the men whom I bring into your hands escape, he that letteth him go, his life shall be for the life of him.

²⁵ And it came to pass, as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt-offering, that Jehu said to the guard and to the captains, Go in, and slay them; let none come forth. And they smote them with the edge of the sword; and the guard and the captains cast them out, and went to the city of the house of Baal.

²⁶ And they brought forth the pillars that were in the house of Baal, and burned them.

²⁷ And they brake down the pillar of Baal, and brake down the house of Baal, and made it a draught-house, unto this day.

²⁸ Thus Jehu destroyed Baal out of Israel.

²⁹ Howbeit from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, wherewith he made Israel to sin, Jehu departed not from after them, to wit, the golden calves that were in Beth-el, and that were in Dan.

³⁰ And Jehovah said unto Jehu, Because thou hast done well in executing that which is right in mine eyes, and hast done unto the house of Ahab according to all that was in my heart, thy sons of the fourth generation shall sit on the throne of Israel.

³¹ But Jehu took no heed to walk in the law of Jehovah, the God of Israel, with all his heart: he departed not from the sins of Jeroboam, wherewith he made Israel to sin.

³² In those days Jehovah began to cut off from Israel: and Hazael smote them in all the borders of Israel;

²⁴ And he went in to offer sacrifices and whole-burnt-offerings; and Ju set for himself eighty men without, and said, Every man who shall escape of the men whom I bring into your hand, the life of him that spares him shall go for his life.

²⁵ And it came to pass, when he had finished offering the whole-burnt-offering, that Ju said to the footmen and the officers, Go ye in and slay them; let not a man of them escape. So they smote them with the edge of the sword, and the footmen and the officers cast the bodies forth, and went to the city of the house of Baal.

²⁶ And they brought out the pillar of Baal, and burnt it.

²⁷ And they tore down the pillars of Baal, and made his house a draught-house until this day.

²⁸ So Ju abolished Baal out of Israel.

²⁹ Nevertheless Ju departed not from following the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nabat, who led Israel to sin: these were the golden heifers in Bæthel and in Dan.

³⁰ And the Lord said to Ju, Because of all thy deeds wherein thou hast acted well in doing that which was right in my eyes, according to all things which thou hast done to the house of Achaab as they were in my heart, thy sons to the fourth generation shall sit upon the throne of Israel.

³¹ But Ju took no heed to walk in the law of the Lord God of Israel with all his heart: he departed not from following the sins of Jeroboam, who made Israel to sin.

³² In those days the Lord began to cut Israel short; and Azael smote them in every coast of Israel;

²⁴ And when they went in to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings, Jehu appointed fourscore men without, and said, If any of the men whom I have brought into your hands escape, he that letteth him go, his life shall be for the life of him.

³² In those days the LORD began to cut Israel short: and Hazael smote them in all the coasts of Israel;

²⁴ Then he and Jonadab prepared to offer sacrifices and other offerings to Baal that would be completely burned on the altar that was there in Samaria. But Jehu had stationed eighty of his men outside the temple, and had said to them, “I want you to kill all the people who are in the temple. Anyone who allows one of them to escape will be executed!”

²⁵ As soon as Jehu and Jonadab had finished killing the animals that would be completely burned to be an offering to Baal, they went outside and said to the guards and officers, “Go in and kill all of them! Do not allow any of them to escape!” So the guards and officers went in and killed them all with their swords. Then they dragged their corpses outside the temple. Then they went into the inner room of the temple,

²⁶ and they carried out the sacred pillar of Baal that was there, and they burned it.

²⁷ So they destroyed that pillar that honored Baal, and then they burned down the temple, and made it a publc toilet. And it is still a toilet!

²⁸ That is how Jehu got rid of the worship of Baal in Israel.

²⁹ But Jehu did not quit committing the kinds of sins that Jeroboam had committed, sins that led the people of Israel to sin by worshiping the gold statues of calves in Bethel and Dan cities.

³⁰ Then Yahweh said to Jehu, “You have done what pleased me by getting rid of all of Ahab's descendants. So I promise you that your son and grandson and great-grandson and great-great-grandson will all be kings of Israel.”

³¹ But Jehu did not obey all the laws of Yahweh, the God of the Israeli people. He did not stop committing the sins that Jeroboam had committed, sins that led the Israeli people to sin.

³² At that time, Yahweh began to cause the territory controlled by Israel to become smaller. The army of King Hazael of Syria conquered much of the Israeli territory.

²⁴ And he went in to offer sacrifices and whole burnt offerings; and Ju set for himself eighty men without, and said, Every man who shall escape of the men whom I bring into your hand, the life of him that spares him shall go for his life.

²⁵ And it came to pass, when he had finished offering the whole burnt offering, that Ju said to the footmen and to the officers, Go you° in and kill them; let not a man of them escape. ²⁴ Then they went in to make offerings and burned offerings. Now Jehu had put eighty men outside, and said to them, If any man whom I give into your hands gets away, the life of him who lets him go will be the price of his life.

²⁵ Then when the burned offering was ended, straight away Jehu said to the armed men and the captains, Go in and put them to death; let not one come out. So they put them to the sword; and, pulling the images to the earth, they went into the holy place of the house of Baal.

²⁶ And they took out the image of Asherah from the house of Baal, and had it burned.

²⁷ The altar of Baal was pulled down and the house of Baal was broken up and made an unclean place, as it is to this day.

²⁸ So Jehu put an end to the worship of Baal in Israel.

²⁹ But Jehu did not keep himself from all the sins of Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, and the evil he made Israel do; the gold oxen were still in Beth-el and in Dan.

³⁰ And the Lord said to Jehu, Because you have done well in doing what is right in my eyes and effecting all my purpose for the family of Ahab, your sons will be kings of Israel to the fourth generation.

³¹ But Jehu did not take care to keep the law of the Lord with all his heart: he did not keep himself from the sin which Jeroboam did and made Israel do.

³² In those days the Lord was angry first with Israel; and Hazael made attacks on all the land of Israel,

²⁴ And they entered in to offer sacrifices and burnt-offerings. Now Jehu appointed eighty men without, and said, He that allows any of the men to escape that I have brought into your hands, his life shall be for the life of him.

²⁵ And it came to pass as soon as they had ended offering up the burnt-offering, that Jehu said to the couriers and to the captains, Go in, slay them; let none come forth. And they smote them with the edge of the sword; and the couriers and the captains cast them there. And they went to the city of the house of Baal,

²⁶ and brought forth the columns out of the house of Baal, and burned them;

²⁷ and they broke down the column of Baal, and broke down the house of Baal, and made it a draught-house to this day.

²⁸ Thus Jehu extirpated Baal out of Israel.

²⁹ Only, the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin, from them Jehu departed not: from the golden calves that were in Bethel, and that were in Dan.

³⁰ And Jehovah said to Jehu, Because thou hast executed well that which is right in my sight, and hast done unto the house of Ahab according to all that was in my heart, thy children of the fourth generation shall sit on the throne of Israel.

³¹ But Jehu took no heed to walk in the law of Jehovah the God of Israel with all his heart; he departed not from the sins of Jeroboam, who made Israel to sin.

³² In those days Jehovah began to cut Israel short; and Hazael smote them in all the borders of Israel;

²⁴ And they went in to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings: but Jehu had prepared him fourscore men without, and said to them: If any of the men escape, whom I have brought into your hands, he that letteth him go shall answer life for life.

²⁵ And it came to pass, when the burnt offering was ended, that Jehu commanded his soldiers and captains, saying: Go in, and kill them, let none escape. And the soldiers and captains slew them with the edge of the sword, and cast them out: and they went into the city of the temple of Baal,

²⁶ And brought the statue out of Baal’s temple, and burnt it,

²⁷ And broke it in pieces. They destroyed also the temple of Baal, and made a jakes in its place unto this day.

²⁸ So Jehu destroyed Baal out of Israel:

²⁹ But yet he departed not from the sills of Jeroboam the son of Nabat, who made Israel to sin, nor did he forsake the golden calves that were in Bethel and Dan.

³⁰ And the Lord said to Jehu: Because thou hast diligently executed that which was right and pleasing in my eyes, and hast done to the house of Achab according to all that was in my heart: thy children shall sit upon the throne of Israel to the fourth Generation.

³¹ But Jehu took no heed to walk in the law of the Lord the God of Israel with all his heart: for he departed not from the sins of Jeroboam, who had made Israel to sin.

³² In those days the Lord began to he weary of Israel: and Hazael ravaged them in all the coasts of Israel,

²⁴ They were inside presenting sacrifices and burnt offerings. Now Jehu had positioned eighty men outside and cautioned them, “I'm handing these men over to you. If you let any of them escape, you will pay for his life with yours.”

²⁵ As soon as Jehu had finished presenting the burnt offering, he ordered his guards and officers, “Go in and kill them all! Don't let even one escape!” So they killed them with their swords. The guards and officers threw their bodies outside, and then they went into the inner sanctuary of the temple of Baal.

²⁶ They dragged out the idol pillars and burned them.

²⁷ They smashed the sacred pillar of Baal, and tore down the temple of Baal and turned it into a toilet, which it still is to this day.

²⁸ This was how Jehu destroyed Baal worship in Israel,

²⁹ but he did not end the sins that Jeroboam, son of Nebat, had made Israel commit—the worship of the golden calves at Bethel and Dan.

³⁰ The Lord said to Jehu, “Since you have done well, and have carried out what is right in my sight, and have accomplished all that I planned for the house of Ahab, your descendants will sit on the throne of Israel to the fourth generation.”

³¹ But Jehu was not completely committed to following the law of the Lord, the God of Israel. He did not end the sins that Jeroboam had made Israel commit.

³² At that time the Lord began to reduce the extent of Israel. Hazael defeated the Israelites throughout their territory

²⁴ And when they went in to make sacrifice and burnt offering, Iehu appoynted foure score men without, and sayd, If any of the men whome I haue brought into your hands, escape, his soule shalbe for his soule.

²⁵ And when hee had made an ende of the burnt offring, Iehu sayde to the garde, and to the captaines, Goe in, slay them, let not a man come out. And they smote them with the edge of the sworde. And the garde, and the captaines cast them out, and went vnto the citie, where was the temple of Baal.

²⁶ And they brought out the images of the temple of Baal, and burnt them.

²⁷ And they destroyed the image of Baal, and threwe downe the house of Baal, and made a iakes of it vnto this day.

²⁸ So Iehu destroyed Baal out of Israel.

²⁹ But from the sinnes of Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat which made Israel to sinne, Iehu departed not from them, neither from the golden calues that were in Beth-el and that were in Dan.

³⁰ And the Lord sayde vnto Iehu, Because thou hast diligently executed that which was right in mine eyes, and hast done vnto the house of Ahab according to all things that were in mine heart, therefore shall thy sonnes vnto the fourth generation sit on the throne of Israel.

³¹ But Iehu regarded not to walke in the law of the Lord God of Israel with all his heart: for hee departed not from the sinnes of Ieroboam, which made Israel to sinne.

³² In those dayes the Lord began to lothe Israel, and Hazael smote them in all the coastes of Israel,

²⁴ And they went in to offer sacrifices and burnt-offerings. Now Jehu had appointed him fourscore men without, and said: 'If any of the men whom I bring into your hands escape, his life shall be for the life of him.'

²⁵ And it came to pass, as soon as they had made an end of preparing the burnt-offering, that Jehu said to the runners and to the officers, Go in, smite them: let none come forth. And they smote them with the edge of the sword; and the runners and the captains cast them out, and went as far as the city of the house of Ba'al.

²⁶ And they brought forth the statues out of the house of Ba'al, and burnt every one of them.

²⁷ And they broke down the statue of Ba'al, and broke down the house of Ba'al, and made it a common sewer unto this day.

²⁸ Thus Jehu exterminated Ba'al out of Israel.

²⁹ Nevertheless the sins of Jerobo'am the son of Nebat, who induced Israel to sin, Jehu departed not from in following them, namely, the golden calves that were in Beth-el, and that were in Dan.

³⁰ And the Lord said unto Jehu, Forasmuch as thou hast acted well in doing what is right in my eyes, and hast done in accordance with all that was in my heart unto the house of Achab: children of the fourth generation after thee shall sit upon the throne of Israel.

³¹ But Jehu took no heed to walk in the law of the Lord the God of Israel with all his heart: he departed not from the sins of Jerobo'am, who induced Israel to sin.

³² In those days the Lord began to cut Israel short; and Chazael smote them in all the boundary of Israel;

²⁴ And he went in to offer sacrifices and whole burnt offerings; and Jehu set for himself eighty men without, and said, Every man who shall escape of the men whom I bring into your hand, the life of him that spares him shall go for his life.

²⁵ And it came to pass, when he had finished offering the whole burnt offering, that Jehu said to the footmen and the officers, Go ye in and slay them; let not a man of them escape. So they smote them with the edge of the sword, and the footmen and the officers cast the bodies forth, and went to the city of the house of Baal.

²⁶ And they brought out the pillar of Baal, and burned it.

²⁷ And they tore down the pillars of Baal, and made his house a draughthouse until this day.

²⁸ So Jehu abolished Baal out of Israel.

²⁹ Nevertheless Jehu departed not from following the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who led Israel to sin: these were the golden heifers in Bethel and in Dan.

³⁰ And the Lord said to Jehu, Because of all thy deeds wherein thou hast acted well in doing that which was right in my eyes, according to all things which thou hast done to the house of Ahab as they were in my heart, thy sons to the fourth generation shall sit upon the throne of Israel.

³¹ But Jehu took no heed to walk in the law of the Lord God of Israel with all his heart: he departed not from following the sins of Jeroboam, who made Israel to sin.

³² In those days the Lord began to cut Israel short; and Hazael smote them in every coast of Israel;

²⁴ Then they went in to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings. Now Jehu had chosen eighty men who were standing outside, and he told them, “If any of the men whom I bring into your hands escapes, whoever lets that man escape, his life will be taken for the life of the one who escaped.”

²⁵ So then as soon as Jehu finished offering the burnt offering, he said to the guard and to the captains, “Go in and kill them. Let no one come out.” So they killed them with the edge of the sword, and the guard and the captains threw them out and went into the inner room of the house of Baal.

²⁶ They dragged out the stone pillars that were in the house of Baal, and they burned them.

²⁷ Then they broke down the pillar of Baal, and destroyed the house of Baal and made it a latrine, which it is to this day.

²⁸ That is how Jehu destroyed Baal worship from Israel.

²⁹ But Jehu did not leave the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, by which he made Israel sin—that is, the worship of the golden calves in Bethel and Dan.

³⁰ So Yahweh said to Jehu, “Because you have done well in executing what was right in my eyes, and have done to the house of Ahab according to all that was in my heart, your descendants will sit on the throne of Israel to the fourth generation.”

³¹ But Jehu took no care to walk in the law of Yahweh, the God of Israel, with all his heart. He did not turn away from the sins of Jeroboam, by which he made Israel sin.

³² In those days Yahweh began to cut off regions from Israel, and Hazael defeated the Israelites at the borders of Israel,

²⁴ So they went in to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings. Now Jehu had appointed for himself eighty men outside, and said, “If any of the men whom I bring into your hands escape, he who lets him go, his life shall be for the life of him.”

Soothly Jehu had made ready to him without-forth fourscore men, and had said to them, Whoever shall flee away of all these, which I shall bring into your hands, the life of him that suffereth any to escape shall be for the life of him that escapeth.

²⁵ Forsooth it was done, when the burnt sacrifice was ful filled, Jehu commanded to his knights and his dukes, Enter ye, and slay them, that none escape. And the knights and dukes smote them with the sharpness of the sword, and cast forth. And they went into the city of the temple of Baal,

²⁶ and they brought forth the image from the temple of Baal, and burnt it,

²⁷ and all-brake it. Also they destroyed the house of Baal, and made privies for it unto this day.

²⁸ Therefore Jehu did away Baal from Israel;

²⁹ nevertheless he went not away from the sins of Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, that made Israel to do sin, neither he forsook the golden calves, that were in Bethel and in Dan.

³⁰ Forsooth the Lord said to Jehu, For thou didest busily that that was rightful or right, and that pleased in mine eyes, and hast done against the house of Ahab all things that were in mine heart, thy sons till to the fourth generation shall sit on the throne of Israel.

³¹ Forsooth Jehu kept not, that he went in the law of the Lord God of Israel in all his heart; for he went not away from the sins of Jeroboam, that made Israel to do sin.

²⁴ Then they entered, to make slain sacrifices, and burnt sacrifices. ²⁶ and they brought forth the image from the temple of Baal, and burnt it, (and they brought forth the sacred pillar from the temple of Baal, and burned it,/and they brought forth the images, or the idols, from the temple of Baal, and burned them,)

²⁷ and all-brake it. Also they destroyed the house of Baal, and made privies for it unto this day. (and broke it all up or and broke them all up. And they utterly destroyed the house of Baal, and made it into latrines, as it still is unto this day.)

²⁸ Therefore Jehu did away Baal from Israel; (And so Jehu did away Baal from Israel;)

²⁹ nevertheless he went not away from the sins of Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, that made Israel to do sin, neither he forsook the golden calves, that were in Bethel and in Dan.

²⁴ And they come in to make sacrifices and burnt-offerings, and Jehu hath set for himself in an out-place eighty men, and saith, 'The man who letteth escape any of the men whom I am bringing in unto your hand — his soul for his soul.'

²⁵ And it cometh to pass at his finishing to make the burnt-offering, that Jehu saith to the runners, and to the captains, 'Go in, smite them, let none come out;' and they smite them by the mouth of the sword, and the runners and the captains cast them out; and they go unto the city, to the house of Baal,

²⁶ and bring out the standing-pillars of the house of Baal, and burn them,

²⁷ and break down the standing-pillar of Baal, and break down the house of Baal, and appoint it for a draught-house unto this day.

²⁸ And Jehu destroyeth Baal out of Israel,

²⁹ only — the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, that he caused Israel to sin, Jehu hath not turned aside from after them — the calves of gold that are at Beth-El, and in Dan.

³⁰ And Jehovah saith unto Jehu, 'Because that thou hast done well, to do that which is right in Mine eyes — according to all that is in My heart thou hast done to the house of Ahab — the sons of the fourth generation do sit for thee on the throne of Israel.'

³¹ And Jehu hath not taken heed to walk in the law of Jehovah, God of Israel, with all his heart, he hath not turned aside from the sins of Jeroboam, that he caused Israel to sin.

³² In those days hath Jehovah begun to cut off some in Israel, and Hazael smiteth them in all the border of Israel,
