1 Kings 6:13-28 in English

¹³ And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake my people Israel.

¹⁴ So Solomon built the house, and finished it.

¹⁵ And he built the walls of the house within with boards of cedar: from the floor of the house unto the walls of the ceiling, he covered them on the inside with wood; and he covered the floor of the house with boards of fir.

¹⁶ And he built twenty cubits on the hinder part of the house with boards of cedar from the floor unto the walls of the ceiling: he built them for it within, for an oracle, even for the most holy place.

¹⁷ And the house, that is, the temple before the oracle, was forty cubits long.

¹⁸ And there was cedar on the house within, carved with knops and open flowers: all was cedar; there was no stone seen.

¹⁹ And he prepared an oracle in the midst of the house within, to set there the ark of the covenant of Jehovah.

²⁰ And within the oracle was a space of twenty cubits in length, and twenty cubits in breadth, and twenty cubits in the height thereof; and he overlaid it with pure gold: and he covered the altar with cedar.

²¹ So Solomon overlaid the house within with pure gold: and he drew chains of gold across before the oracle; and he overlaid it with gold.

²² And the whole house he overlaid with gold, until all the house was finished: also the whole altar that belonged to the oracle he overlaid with gold.

²³ And in the oracle he made two cherubim of olive-wood, each ten cubits high.

²⁴ And five cubits was the one wing of the cherub, and five cubits the other wing of the cherub: from the uttermost part of the one wing unto the uttermost part of the other were ten cubits.

²⁵ And the other cherub was ten cubits: both the cherubim were of one measure and one form.

²⁶ The height of the one cherub was ten cubits, and so was it of the other cherub.

²⁷ And he set the cherubim within the inner house; and the wings of the cherubim were stretched forth, so that the wing of the one touched the one wall, and the wing of the other cherub touched the other wall; and their wings touched one another in the midst of the house.

²⁸ And he overlaid the cherubim with gold.

¹⁵ And he framed the walls of the house within with cedar boards, from the floor of the house and on to the inner walls and to the beams: he lined the parts enclosed with boards within, and compassed the inward parts of the house with planks of fir.

¹⁶ And he built the twenty cubits from the top of the wall, one side from the floor to the beams, and he made it from the oracle to the most holy place.

¹⁷ And the temple was forty cubits in extent,

¹⁹ in front of the oracle in the midst of the house within, in order to put there the ark of the covenant of the Lord.

²⁰ The length was twenty cubits, and the breadth was twenty cubits, and the height of it was twenty cubits. And he covered it with perfect gold, and he made an altar

²¹ in front of the oracle, and covered it with gold.

²² And he covered the whole house with gold, till he had finished gilding the whole house.

²³ And he made in the oracle two cherubs of ten cubits measured size.

²⁴ And the wing of one cherub was five cubits, and his other wing was five cubits; ten cubits from the tip of one wing to the tip of the other wing.

²⁵ Thus it was with the other cherub, both were alike finished with one measure.

²⁶ And the height of the one cherub was ten cubits, and so was it with the second cherub.

²⁷ And both the cherubs were in the midst of the innermost part of the house; and they spread out their wings, and one wing touched the wall, and the wing of the other cherub touched the other wall; and their wings in the midst of the house touched each other.

²⁸ And he covered the cherubs with gold.

¹⁴ Solomon's workers finished building the temple.

¹⁵ On the inside, they lined/covered the walls with cedar boards. They lined/covered them from the floor to the ceiling. They made the floor from cypress boards.

¹⁶ Inside the back part of the temple they built an inner room, called the Very Holy Place. It was 30 feet long. All the walls of this room were lined with cedar boards.

¹⁷ In front of the Very Holy Place there was a room that was 60 feet long.

¹⁸ The cedar boards on the walls inside the temple were decorated with carvings of gourds and flowers. The walls were completely covered with cedar boards, with the result that the stones of the walls behind them could not be seen.

¹⁹ At the back of the temple they made the Very Holy Place, where the Sacred Chest would be put.

²⁰ That room was 30 feet long, 30 feet wide, and 30 feet high. They covered the walls with very thin sheets of pure gold. For burning incense they also made an altar of cedar boards.

²¹ Solomon told them to cover the other walls inside the temple with very thin sheets of pure gold and to fasten gold chains across the entrance to the Very Holy Place.

²² They covered all the walls of the temple and the altar that was outside the Very Holy Place with very thin sheets of gold.

²³ Inside the Very Holy Place, they made from olive tree wood large statues of two creatures with wings. Each one was 15 feet tall.

²⁴ They each were the same size and had the same shape. They each had two wings which were spread out. Each wing was 7-1/2 feet long, with the result that the distance between the outer ends of the two wings was 15 feet.

²⁷ They put those statues next to each other in the Very Holy Place so that the wing of the one touched the one wing of the other in the center of the room, and the outer wings touched the walls.

²⁸ They covered the statues with very thin sheets of gold.

¹⁵ The walls of the house were covered inside with cedar-wood boards; from the floor to the roof of the house they were covered inside with wood; and the floor was covered with boards of cypress-wood.

¹⁶ And at the back of the house a further space of twenty cubits was shut in with boards of cedar-wood, for the inmost room.

¹⁷ And the house, that is, the Temple, in front of the holy place was forty cubits long.

¹⁸ (All the inside of the house was cedar-wood, ornamented with designs of buds and flowers; no stonework was to be seen inside.)

¹⁹ And he made ready an inmost room in the middle of the house, in which to put the ark of the agreement of the Lord.

²⁰ And the inmost room was twenty cubits square and twenty cubits high, plated over with clear gold, and he made an altar of cedar-wood, plating it with gold.

²¹ Solomon had all the inside of the house covered with gold, and he put chains of gold across in front of the inmost room, which itself was covered with gold.

²² Plates of gold were put all through the house till it was covered completely (and the altar in the inmost room was all covered with gold).

²³ In the inmost room he made two winged beings of olive-wood, ten cubits high;

²⁴ With outstretched wings five cubits wide; the distance from the edge of one wing to the edge of the other was ten cubits.

²⁵ The two winged ones were ten cubits high, of the same size and form.

²⁶ The two of them were ten cubits high.

²⁷ These were placed inside the inner house, their outstretched wings touching the walls of the house, one touching one wall and one the other, while their other wings were touching in the middle.

²⁸ These winged ones were plated over with gold.

¹³ and I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake my people Israel.

²⁰ And the oracle within was twenty cubits in length, and twenty cubits in breadth, and twenty cubits in the height thereof; and he overlaid it with pure gold; and he overlaid the cedar-wood altar —

²¹ and Solomon overlaid the house within with pure gold, and shut off the oracle in front with chains of gold, and overlaid it with gold.

²² And the whole house he overlaid with gold, the whole house entirely; also the whole altar that was by the oracle he overlaid with gold.

²³ And he made in the oracle two cherubim of olive-wood, ten cubits high;

²⁴ and one wing of the cherub was five cubits, and five cubits the other wing of the cherub, ten cubits from the end of one wing to the end of the other wing;

¹⁷ And the temple itself before the doors of the oracle was forty cubits long.

¹⁸ And all the house was covered within with cedar, having the turnings, and the joints thereof artfully wrought and carvings projecting out: all was covered with boards of cedar: and no stone could be seen in the wall at all.

¹⁹ And he made the oracle in the midst of the house, in the inner part, to set there the ark of the covenant of the Lord.

²⁰ Now the oracle was twenty cubits in length, and twenty cubits in breadth, and twenty cubits in height. And he covered and overlaid it with most pure gold. And the altar also he covered with cedar.

²¹ And the house before the oracle he overlaid with most pure gold, and fastened on the plates with nails of gold.

²² And there was nothing in the temple that was not covered with gold: the whole altar of the oracle he covered also with gold.

²³ And he made in the oracle two cherubims of olive tree, of ten cubits in height.

²⁴ One wing of the cherub was five cubits, and the other wing of the cherub was five cubits: that is, in all ten cubits, from the extremity of one wing to the extremity of the other wing.

²⁵ The second cherub also was ten cubits: and the measure, and the work was the same in both the cherubims:

²⁶ That is to say, one cherub was ten cubits high, and in like manner the other cherub.

²⁷ And he set the cherubims in the midst of the inner temple: and the cherubims stretched forth their wings, and the wing of the one touched one wall, and the wing of the other cherub touched the other wall: and the other wings in the midst of the temple touched one another.

²⁸ And he overlaid the cherubims with gold.

¹³ I will live among the Israelites and will not abandon Israel, my people.”

¹⁴ Solomon finished building the Temple.

¹⁵ He lined the walls with cedar panels from floor to ceiling and he covered the floor of the Temple with cypress boards.

¹⁶ He sectioned off twenty cubits at the rear of the Temple with boards of cedar from floor to ceiling, making an inner sanctuary as the Most Holy Place.

¹⁷ The main Temple in front of this room measured forty cubits long.

¹⁸ The cedar panels inside the Temple were decorated with carvings of gourds and open flowers. Everything was lined with cedar—none of the stone was visible.

¹⁹ He also had the inner sanctuary made within the Temple where the Ark of the Lord's Agreement would be placed.

²⁰ The inner sanctuary measured twenty cubits long, twenty cubits wide, and twenty cubits high. He had the interior covered with a coating with pure gold, as well as the altar of cedar.

²¹ Solomon had the whole of the inside of the Temple covered with pure gold, He had gold chains stretched across the front of the inner sanctuary, which was also covered with gold.

²² He covered the whole inside of the Temple with a coating of gold until it was all finished. He also covered with gold the entire altar for the inner sanctuary.

²³ He had two cherubim made out of olive wood for the inner sanctuary, each one ten cubits tall.

²⁴ Both wings of the cherub measured five cubits, making a total wingspan of ten cubits.

²⁵ The other cherub was also ten cubits tall, since they were identical both in size and shape.

²⁷ He had the cherubim placed inside the inner sanctuary of the Temple. Since their wings were fully spread, a wing of the first cherub touched one wall, a wing of the second cherub touched the other wall, and in the middle of the Temple their wings touched.

²⁸ The cherubim were also covered with a gold coating.

¹⁹ Also he prepared the place of the oracle in the mids of the house within, to set the Arke of the couenant of the Lord there.

²⁰ And the place of the oracle within was twentie cubites long, and twentie cubites broad, and twentie cubites hie, and hee couered it with pure golde, and couered the altar with cedar.

²¹ So Salomon couered the house within with pure golde: and he shut the place of the oracle with chaines of gold, and couered it with golde.

²² And he ouerlayde all the house with gold, vntill all the house was made perfite. also he couered the whole altar, that was before the oracle, with golde.

¹⁸ There was cedar inside the house, carved in the shape of gourds and open flowers. All was cedar inside. No stonework was visible on the inside.

¹⁹ Solomon prepared the inner room inside the house in order to place the ark of the covenant of Yahweh there.

²⁰ The inner room was twenty cubits in length, twenty cubits in width, and twenty cubits in height. Solomon overlaid the walls with pure gold and covered the altar with cedar wood.

¹⁸ And all the house within was clothed with cedar, and had his smoothnesses, and his joinings made subtly, and engravings appearing above; all things were clothed with boards of cedar, and utterly a stone might not appear in the wall.

¹⁹ And Solomon made God’s answering place in the midst of the house, in the inner part, that he should set or put there the ark of bond of peace of the Lord.

²⁰ And God’s answering place had twenty cubits of length, and twenty cubits of breadth, and twenty cubits of height; and he covered, and clothed it with purest gold; but also he clothed the altar with cedar.

²¹ Also he covered with purest gold the house before God’s answering place, or the oracle, and he fastened the plates with golden nails.

²² Nothing was in the temple that was not covered with gold; but also he covered with gold all the altar of God’s answering place.

²³ And he made in God’s answering place two cherubims or cherubim of the trees of olives, of ten cubits of height;

²⁴ one wing of cherub was of five cubits, and the tother wing of cherub was of five cubits, that is, having ten cubits, from the highness of the one wing till to the highness of the tother wing.

²⁵ And the second cherub was of ten cubits in even measure; and one work was in the two cherubims,

²⁶ that is, one cherub had the height of ten cubits, and in like manner the tother cherub.

²⁷ And he set the cherubims or cherubim in the midst of the inner temple; and the cherubims or cher-ubim held forth their wings, and one wing touched the one wall, and the wing of the second cherub touched the tother wall; and the other wings in the middle part of the temple touched themselves together.

²⁸ And he covered the cherubims or cherubim with gold, and all the walls of the temple by compass/about;

¹³ and I shall dwell in the midst of the sons of Israel, and I shall not forsake my people Israel. (and I shall live in the midst of the Israelites, and I shall never desert my people Israel.)

(and he built the walls of the House within out of cedar boards, from the floor of the House unto the top of the wall, and unto the couplings; and he covered them with cedar wood within; and he covered the floor of the House with fir, or pine, boards.)

¹⁶ And he builded a wall of boards of cedar of twenty cubits at the hinder part of the temple, from the pavement unto the higher parts; and he made the inner house of God’s answering place into the holy of holy things, (or and he made the Inner Temple, that is, the Most Holy Place, or the Holy of Holies).

¹⁷ And that temple before the doors of God’s answering place was of forty cubits. (And the chamber in front of the doors of the Inner Temple was forty cubits in length.)

¹⁸ And all the house within was clothed with cedar, and had his smoothnesses, and his joinings made subtly, and gravings appearing above; all things were clothed with boards of cedar, and utterly a stone might not appear in the wall. (And all the House within was covered with cedar, and had carvings of knops, or of gourds, and open flowers; everything was covered with cedar boards, and no stone appeared, or was visible, utterly anywhere on the wall.)

¹⁹ And Solomon made God’s answering place in the midst of the house, in the inner part, that he should set there the ark of (the) bond of peace of the Lord (or where he would put the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord).

²⁰ And God’s answering place had twenty cubits of length, and twenty cubits of breadth, and twenty cubits of height, (or And the Inner Temple was twenty cubits in length, and twenty cubits in breadth, and twenty cubits in height); and he covered (it), and clothed it with purest gold; but also he clothed the altar with cedar.

²¹ Also he covered with purest gold the house before God’s answering place, or the oracle, and he fastened the plates with golden nails. (And he covered the inside of the Temple all around the Inner Temple, or the oracle, with the purest gold; and he fastened plates to the walls with gold nails.)

²² Nothing was in the temple that was not covered with gold; but also he covered with gold all the altar of God’s answering place. (There was nothing in the Temple that was not covered with gold; and he also covered all of the altar for the Inner Temple with gold.)

²³ And he made in God’s answering place two cherubims of the trees of olives, of ten cubits of height (or each ten cubits in height);

²⁴ one wing of (the) cherub was of five cubits, and the tother wing of (the) cherub was (also) of five cubits, that is, having ten cubits, from the highness of the one wing till to the highness of the tother wing.

²⁵ And the second cherub was of ten cubits in even measure; and one work was in the two cherubims, (And the second cherub was also ten cubits in equal measure; and the two cherubim were of the same work, or design,)

²⁶ that is, one cherub had the height of ten cubits, and in like manner the tother cherub.

²⁷ And he set the cherubims in the midst of the inner temple; and the cherubims held forth their wings, and one wing touched the one wall, and the wing of the second cherub touched the tother wall; and the other wings in the middle part of the temple touched themselves together (or and the other wings touched each other in the middle of the Inner Temple).

²⁸ And he covered the cherubims with gold, and (also) all the walls of the (whole) temple by compass/about;

¹³ and have tabernacled in the midst of the sons of Israel, and do not forsake My people Israel.'

¹⁴ And Solomon buildeth the house and completeth it;

¹⁵ and he buildeth the walls of the house within with beams of cedar, from the floor of the house unto the walls of the ceiling; he hath overlaid with wood the inside, and covereth the floor of the house with ribs of fir.

¹⁶ And he buildeth the twenty cubits on the sides of the house with ribs of cedar, from the floor unto the walls; and he buildeth for it within, for the oracle, for the holy of holies.

¹⁷ And forty by the cubit was the house, it is the temple before it.

¹⁸ And the cedar for the house within is carvings of knobs and openings of flowers; the whole is cedar, there is not a stone seen.

¹⁹ And the oracle in the midst of the house within he hath prepared, to put there the ark of the covenant of Jehovah.

²⁰ And before the oracle is twenty cubits in length, and twenty cubits in breadth, and twenty cubits is its height; and he overlayeth it with gold refined, and overlayeth the altar with cedar.

²¹ And Solomon overlayeth the house within with gold refined, and causeth it to pass over in chains of gold before the oracle, and overlayeth it with gold.

²² And the whole of the house he hath overlaid with gold, till the completion of all the house; and the whole of the altar that the oracle hath, he hath overlaid with gold.

²³ And he maketh within the oracle two cherubs, of the oil-tree, ten cubits is their height;

²⁴ and five cubits is the one wing of the cherub, and five cubits the second wing of the cherub, ten cubits from the ends of its wings even unto the ends of its wings;

²⁵ and ten by the cubit is the second cherub, one measure and one form are to the two cherubs,

²⁶ the height of the one cherub is ten by the cubit, and so is the second cherub;

²⁷ and he setteth the cherubs in the midst of the inner house, and they spread out the wings of the cherubs, and a wing of the one cometh against the wall, and a wing of the second cherub is coming against the second wall, and their wings are unto the midst of the house, coming wing against wing;

²⁸ and he overlayeth the cherubs with gold,
