John 19:25-35

²⁵Now there stood by the cross of Jesus His mother, and His mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.

²⁶Therefore Jesus, seeing His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, “Woman, behold your son!”

²⁷Then He said to the disciple, “Behold your mother!” And from that hour that disciple took her into his own care.

²⁸After this, Jesus, seeing that all things already had been fulfilled, so that the Scripture might be fulfilled, He said, “I thirst!”

²⁹Now a vessel was set full of sour wine; and they, having filled a sponge with sour wine, put it around a hyssop, they held it to His mouth.

³⁰Therefore when Jesus received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.

³¹Therefore the Jews, since it was the Preparation Day, that the bodies should not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), asked Pilate that their legs might be broken, and they might be taken away.

³²Then the soldiers came and they broke the legs of the first man, and of the other who was crucified with Him.

³³But having come to Jesus, when they saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs.

³⁴But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.

³⁵And he who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that he tells the truth, so that you may believe.
