Luke 24:22-36

²²But then some of the women in our group surprised us.

²³At dawn they went to the tomb and they didn't find his body. They came back saying that they'd seen a vision of angels who told them he's alive.

²⁴Some of us went to the tomb, and found it just as the women said—but they didn't see him.”

²⁵Jesus told them, “You're so dull! How slow you are to trust in all that the prophets said!

²⁶Didn't the Messiah have to suffer before he could enter into his glory?”

²⁷Then, starting with Moses and all the prophets, he explained to them everything that was said in Scripture about himself.

²⁸As they approached the village they were going to, Jesus made it seem as if he was going farther.

²⁹But they urged him, saying, “Please come and stay with us. It's getting late—the day is almost over.” So he went to stay with them.

³⁰When he sat down to eat with them, he took the bread and gave thanks, broke it, and gave it to them.

³¹Their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. Then he disappeared from view.

³²The two disciples said to each other, “Weren't our thoughts on fire when he spoke to us, as he explained the Scriptures to us?”

³³They got up right away and returned to Jerusalem. There they found the eleven disciples and those who were with them meeting together,

³⁴who said, “The Lord has really risen again! He has appeared to Simon.”

³⁵Then those who had just arrived explained to the other disciples what had happened to them on the road, and how they had recognized Jesus when he broke bread.

³⁶While they were talking, Jesus himself stood among them, and said, “Peace to you!”
