When Samuel is born it is an answer to prayer by his mother Hannah. Samuel is dedicated to the Lord as a Nazirite. In the 1st Book of Samuel Samuel anoints David to King. Saul's son and heir Jonathan befriends David and recognizes him as the rightful king. Saul plots David's death and David escapes into the wilderness.
