Psalms 81:4-7 in English

⁴ For it is a statute for Israel, An ordinance of the God of Jacob.

⁵ He appointed it in Joseph for a testimony, When he went out over the land of Egypt, Where I heard a language that I knew not.

⁶ I removed his shoulder from the burden: His hands were freed from the basket.

⁷ Thou calledst in trouble, and I delivered thee; I answered thee in the secret place of thunder; I proved thee at the waters of Meribah. Selah

⁴ Rescue the needy, and deliver the poor out of the hand of the sinner.

⁵ They know not, nor understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth shall be shaken.

⁶ I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you children of the Most High.

⁷ But ye die as men, and fall as one of the princes.

⁴ For this was a statute for Israel, and a law of the God of Jacob.

⁵ He commanded us Israeli people to obey it when he punished the people of Egypt. I heard someone MTY whose voice I did not recognize, saying,

⁶ “ After the rulers of Egypt forced you Israelis to work as slaves, I took those heavy burdens off your backs, and I enabled you to lay down those heavy baskets of bricks that you were carrying.

⁷ When you were greatly distressed, you called out to me, and I rescued you; I answered you out of a thundercloud. Later I tested whether you would trust me to give you water when you were in the desert at Meribah.

⁴ for this is a rule for Israel, a regulation of the God of Jacob.

⁵ God made this statute for Joseph when he opposed the land of Egypt. I heard a voice I didn't know, saying:

⁶ “I took the load from your shoulders; I freed your hands from carrying heavy baskets.

⁷ In your suffering you cried out to me, and I saved you. I answered you from the thundercloud. I tested you at the waters of Meribah. Selah.

⁴ For this is a statute for Israel, and a Law of the God of Iaakob.

⁵ Hee set this in Ioseph for a testimonie, when hee came out of the land of Egypt, where I heard a language, that I vnderstoode not.

⁶ I haue withdrawen his shoulder from the burden, and his handes haue left the pots.

⁷ Thou calledst in affliction and I deliuered thee, and answered thee in the secret of the thunder: I prooued thee at the waters of Meribah. Selah.

⁶ He turned away his back from burdens; his hands served in a coffin.

⁷ In tribulation thou inwardly called-est me, and I delivered thee; I heard thee in the hid place of tempest, I proved thee at the waters of against-saying.

⁴ For why (this) commandment is in Israel; and doom is to God of Jacob. (For this is a law in Israel; and this ordinance is from the God of Jacob.)

⁵ He setted that witnessing in Joseph; when he went out of the land of Egypt, he heard a language, that he knew not. (He put that command on Joseph; when he went out of the land of Egypt. And I heard a language, that I knew not.)

⁶ He turned away his back from burdens; his hands served in a coffin. (And the Lord said, I took away the burdens from off his back; his hands were delivered from having to carry the baskets.)

⁷ In tribulation thou inwardly calledest me, and I delivered thee; I heard thee in the hid place of tempest, I proved thee at the water(s) of against-saying. (In trouble thou calledest to me, and I saved thee; I answered thee from my hidden place in the tempest, and I proved thee at the waters of Meribah.)

⁴ For a statute to Israel it is, An ordinance of the God of Jacob.

⁵ A testimony on Joseph He hath placed it, In his going forth over the land of Egypt. A lip, I have not known — I hear.

⁶ From the burden his shoulder I turned aside, His hands from the basket pass over.

⁷ In distress thou hast called and I deliver thee, I answer thee in the secret place of thunder, I try thee by the waters of Meribah. Selah.
