But Jesus answering them said, “Have you not even read this, what David did when he became hungry, he and those who were with him:
how he entered into the house of God, took and ate the showbread, and also gave some to those with him, which is not lawful for any but the priests to eat?”
And He said to them, “The Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.”
Now it happened that on another Sabbath, He entered the synagogue and was teaching. And there was a man there whose right hand was withered.
And the scribes and Pharisees were observing if whether He would heal on the Sabbath, that they might find an accusation against Him.
But He knew their thoughts, and said to the man who had the withered hand, “Arise and stand in the midst.” And he arose and stood.
Then Jesus said to them, “I will ask you one thing: Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it?”
And when He had looked around at them all, He said to him, “Stretch out your hand.” And he did so, and his hand was restored as whole as the other.
But they were filled with fury, and they were discussing with one another what they might do to Jesus.
Now it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray, and He was spending the night in prayer to God.
And when it became day, He summoned His disciples, and having chosen twelve from them, whom He also named apostles:
He chose Simon, whom He also named Peter, and Andrew his brother; James and John; Philip and Bartholomew;
Matthew and Thomas; James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon called the Zealot;
Judas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot who also became a traitor.
And having come down with them, He stood on a level place, with a crowd of His disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea and Jerusalem, and from the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon, who came to hear Him and be healed of their diseases,
as well as those who were tormented by unclean spirits, and they were being healed.
And all the crowd was trying to touch Him, because power was going out from Him, and was healing them all.
Then He lifted up His eyes toward His disciples, and said: “Blessed are you who are poor, For yours is the kingdom of God.
Blessed are you who hunger now, For you shall be filled. Blessed are you who weep now, For you shall laugh.
Blessed are you when men shall hate you, And when they shall exclude you, And shall revile you, and cast out your name as evil, Because of the Son of Man.
